ooc: This thread is open for as many people as would like to join! The posting order will be super loose, so if you have a lot requirement you're trying to get done, feel free to drop a post and vanish. Ferretnose's stories are for whoever wants to hear them. This is just a chill topic where I get to roleplay Ferretnose and she gets to talk to her loved ones. Enjoy!
The chill settled uneasily into the little brown molly's bones, though it was otherwise a very sunny Leaf-fall day. Each day was a little kinder to her, but the great gap left in her heart by her darling's departure to StarClan was hard to ignore. Still, she felt optimistic. Elderhood was much more intensive than she had once thought. Leisure and daily meals were nice to have, but she also had expectations. Kits came to her den and peered at her one grey eye, nervously anticipating a wizened, grouchy, dusty widow. Instead, they found Ferretnose as Ferretnose had always been. She wondered who was telling these poor younguns to tread so lightly around her... she took a wild bet on her son, Beecloud. He saw her as emotionally fragile. Well, nevermind all that. Her mate dying was no excuse to handle her with soft mittens.
How she spent the days lately was through stories. She was one of the few left who had seen the horrors of the Great Flood or witnessed the triumph in the mountains. She had lived so much, and she felt that the spirits of those they lost—StarClan bless them—could live through her. It was her duty. That was the expectation as an elder, until her memory failed her.
As sunhigh came, she glanced expectantly at a passing figure. No matter the age, it seemed that everyone was at least mildly interested in the past. And, after all, everyone was welcome to entertain old Ferretnose.
"You look like you're waiting for something," she chirped. "Have I told you the story of the Great Flood yet?"
