Bloodstrike had had enough of foxes being a problem in Skyclan territory. They were a threat to all of the new apprentices and inexperienced warriors. One had killed Sagelight and Bloodstrike had marked that fox before it ran off by tearing off an ear. Another, suspected to be from the same family of foxes as the one that had killed Sagelight, had attacked and injured Smokefeather. Most recently... and one that his Bloodstrike the hardest, was that Dustpaw had been killed by one. Of the three foxes that had tried to make Skyclan territory their home, only two remained alive. Smokefeather and Copperpaw had seen to at least one of the fox's deaths. Bloodstrike was out to kill the others as well. Or any fox. The creepy red-furred cat/dog monsters would be chased out of Skyclan territory from now until Bloodstrike himself had died, as he would see to it himself that they were eradicated. He would even pull fox kits from their dens and destroy them at this point. The foxes of the forest had declared war as far as he was concerned and Bloodstrike would not stay silent on his answer.
"I know we're looking for foxes, but we shouldn't pass up opportunities to catch prey while we're all out here. We may search all day and not find a single sign of a fox, so we may as well be productive while we look." Bloodstrike spoke to the cats that had decided to come on the patrol with him. Smokefeather, Primroselight and Wolfstar should be plenty powerful enough to safely take down a fox. Maybe two. Bloodstrike had yet to see or hear anything about One Ear, the fox that he had named that had killed their medicine cat. It's other scarred up family member on the other hand may have been the one that took Dustpaw's life.
The past few moons had taken its toll on Wolfstar. Being violently thrust into leadership (far before he'd earned the -star at the end of his name) was something that the dark tom had never expected. His father had always seemed so strong to him... unbeatable and infallible like the leaders he'd heard stories of as a kit. But he was gone now, he had been gone, in some form or the other, for a long time, and in that time, the time when Wolf himself had led SkyClan, he had watched that same glory and honor slip between his paws time and time again. He'd failed in saving Murkpelt and Mistrain from the blaze, failed to protect Firepaw as they fled for their lives. He'd failed to hold up Spottedstar, to support him through his injuries both physical and spiritual... and most recently, he'd failed Sagelight and now Dustpaw.
A mother, dead; two daughters, dead; his uncle, dead; his granddaughter, dead; his youngest son, dead. All under his leadership. He'd failed at the most paramount part of fatherhood. He'd failed at protecting his own family. He'd failed at protecting his clan.
No longer. These foxes would die, in the most gruesome way possible if he had anything to say about it. And anyone or anything that posed even the slightest threat to SkyClan would follow them to the Dark Forest.
He'd given Bloodstrike the order to round up a patrol, and was fine to let his deputy lead, for now. Wolfstar lurked in the background, his head low, his ears flat, long tail lashing back and forth. He was impatient, for the first time in his life, to spill blood.

Smokefeather stalked after the patrol in silence, gray-green eyes sweeping the charred forest with a focused intensity.
Dustpaw was dead. Killed by foxes. They'd killed Sagelight, had gone after her and her apprentice, and now her daughter was dead. Smokefeather wanted to find the fox responsible, wanted to rip it apart and make it suffer.
The back of her neck bore fresh scars from the fangs of the fox she had killed with Copperpaw. Beechpaw hadn't been thrilled to learn both her parents were going fox hunting, had been even less thrilled when her sister and former mentor had joined the patrol, but she'd have to deal with it. Smokefeather would not be denied her vengeance. She hadn't been there to save Dustpaw, and the mix of grief and rage that tore at her was enough to keep her going. It had to be.
An ear flicked at Bloodstrike's voice. Hunting? He had a point, though Smokefeather's preferred prey was now fox. Still, the clan needed to be fed.
It didn't take long to track down the fluttering of a bird in the lower branches of a tree, and Smokefeather said nothing as she slid into a crouch and silently stalked towards it. A bit closer, and the pale tortoiseshell leapt onto the branch the bird was on, claws hooking its' wings and quickly cutting off the bird's life. The bird was quickly stashed in the crevice between the roots of the tree, and Smokefeather stalked onward, wishing very much for the scent of fox on the wind.
Primroselight's paws trailed on the ground as her patrol left camp. Dustpaw's death, so soon after Spottedstar's disappearance and Sagelight's passing, had hit everyone hard, especially her family. But it was all because of the foxes - they were the ones to blame for what had happened to Dustpaw and Sagelight. Even though she was nowhere near a vengeful cat, what had to be done would be done.
She was yet to meet a fox, thankfully, but Smokefeather's wounds alone made her realise how dangerous they were. Let alone their body count in SkyClan. She nodded slightly at her farther's instructions: the prey they were aiming for was a lot larger than what they normally ate, but hunting could at least maybe keep her mind off things. It would also be more likely to draw the two remaining foxes towards them... A quiet rustle in the bushes nearby made her tense, with her ears pricked and heart thumping, she paused. No-one else had made any change to their steady pace, so it couldn't have been a fox, right? The rustling came towards her, rattling the bushes one after the other. She was about to shout out in alarm when the familiar scent of squirrel hit her nose.
Relieved, she let out a short sigh and crept forwards. The prey had pretty much walked into her paws, and all she had to do know was trap it. She pounced and her paws landed around the little, fluffy-tailed creature. Quickly she killed it and picked it up in her jaws, looking for somewhere to burry it. She soon found a suitable tree trunk to nestle her catch in, and returned to the rest of the group, glad that this time she had been successful.
Primroselight used 3 SP to catch a squirrel. Catch was successful! 127/130
Bloodstrike noted the look on everyone's faces, especially Smokefeather's. His heart ached for her, for their lost daughter and for himself. The foxes would pay... their entire population that dared call Skyclan territory their home would pay. Once they had gathered, he turned away and lead them through Skyclan territory. Smokefeather and Primroselight wasted no time in catching some prey. He thought he may as well give it a shot too, though his nose and ears were still searching for signs of a fox.
A rabbit caught Bloodstrike's eye out in the distance near a small bush that was beginning to peak through the ashes. Of course the rabbit was taking advantage of the bit of growth that it could. On some level it annoyed Bloodstrike. Did they really have to go after every new greenery they saw before giving it a chance to replenish the forest? He crouched down and stalked after it, easily making no noise across the ashes. Still, with little cover to hide himself, the rabbit perked it's head up at the right time and saw him coming. The rabbit turned to bolt...
Only to get snatched up by a fox that leaped over the small bush it had been nibbling on. Bloodstrike's fur bristled and a growl ripped from his throat. "Fox," He said, sounding far more calm than he felt as rage erupted through his body. The fox had cat sized clawmark scars all over it too... Bloodstrike's eyes traveled immediately to it's head, but to his frustration, this fox still had both ears. It wasn't One Ear, the fox that had killed Sagelight.
The fox perked it's head up with the dead rabbit dangling from it's jaws. At the sight of cats, it froze for just an instant then dropped the rabbit. It stood protectively over it's kill and snarled a warning. Bloodstrike was already moving toward it, hissing and growling as he approached. He didn't charge it right away, but would rather have it's attention on him so that his clan mates might be able to get a safer strike in on it. He was fairly sure that his clan mates would understand what he was doing. He didn't need anymore injured cats today, especially if it could be avoided. With this many, he was sure it could be.
Bloodstrike stopped about three fox-lengths away from the fox and crouched down, acting like he was going to pounce on it. The fox in turn, dropped it's head and crouched as well, growling, but not attacking first. It hadn't been hunting the cats. It wanted nothing to do with them. It just wanted them to leave.
Too bad for the fox that that was not in any of these cats' plans right now.
Neither Bloodstrike nor the fox has attacked for this turn.
The others were half-distracted by hunting, but Wolfstar had no such inclinations right now. What use was prey, if they had to worry about being picked off one by one every time they left camp? No, there would be time for prey-hunting later... right now, he was fox hunting. He was mad, and if it were left to him, no fox would feel comfortable stepping paw on SkyClan's territory for generations to come. A permanent scowl had plastered itself to his face, so uncharacteristic of the dark tabby that he almost looked like a different cat.
The others were, as always, proficient in catching their prey. A bird fell to Smokefeather's prowess, and a squirrel to Primroselight's. Wolfstar brushed his tail along his granddaughter's shoulder as she returned from hiding her catch, and paused when Bloodstrike did, noticing the rabbit just a second after his son did. He watched the deputy stalk expertly across the ground, and then... Wolfstar lifted his head, nose into the quick, faint breeze that ruffled his fur. There was something there. Some scent that had him instinctively hesitate, eyes searching. Fox.
At that very moment, it showed itself, snatching up the rabbit that Bloodstrike had been hunting and turning to face the cats. Wolfstar didn't wait. He noted Bloodstrike's distracting stance and immediately charged, not giving the fox any more time to assess the situation. There would be no more bristling and posturing here. This fox wasn't leaving alive. With a snarl, he slammed into the russet beast, dragging his claws across its shoulders, and sank his teeth into the fur at the back of his neck. Every claw scrabbled for purchase atop the fox, finding and setting into either fur or flesh, and Wolfstar shook his head back and forth like a dog would a rat.
Wolfstar used Teeth Grip on the Fox, dealing 16 damage and costing 20 stamina. 2 turns remaining.

Smokefeather gave her daughter a small half-smile that quickly vanished as she returned her focus to the task at paw. She'd never been a cat to crave violence or revel in a fight, but she found herself hoping for the scent of fox on the wind, wanting to rip into russet fur. It wouldn't bring Dustpaw back, it wouldn't bring Sagelight back, but it would certainly make her feel a bit better to know that one less of their numbers roamed Skyclan's forest.
Bloodstrike was stalking after a rabbit, and Smokefeather had turned her eyes to the trees in search of another bird, only for her head to snap back in the direction of Bloodstrike as the scent of fox reached her nose. Fur lifting along her spine, Smokefeather silently started toward it as Wolfstar did. He went for the neck, and so Smokefeather rolled and slid beneath the fox, viciously raking claws through soft, pale belly fur. The fox was on their territory, had gone after her kin, and that would be its' last mistake. Smokefeather had no intention of letting the fox leave this place alive.
Smokefeather used Half-Turn Belly Rake on Fox for -20sp, dealing 15 damage.

The faint scent of fox drifted on the breeze towards Primroselight. She was about to open her mouth to warn the patrol when she heard her father's snarl. So they had found what they had been looking for. Wolfstar had leapt directly at the fox, and now held its scruff in his jaws. But the young warrior had no idea what she should do. High-stakes battles were very rare for her, and even though the fox was greatly outnumbered, one bite could snap bones.
She had to do something though. For Dustpaw. For Sagelight. At least she wouldn't have to avenge them alone. It was much better to thin the predator's numbers as much as possible to lower the chances of any other unlucky cats meeting their ends. The fox, distracted by its three attackers, seemed not to have noticed Primroselight. She rushed towards its hind legs as to not displace her grandfather, and reared up, slashing wildly with her claws. The four cats, each attacking it, would soon be to much for the fox, there was no doubt about that. For one of the first times ever, a true resentment and anger burned within her, occasionally giving way to rushed of sadness. But amongst the adrenaline of the battle and the revenge she needed, it was enough to push the grief aside.
Primroselight used Rear-up to Slash on Fox, costing 15 SP dealing 11 damage

The fox had been taken completely by surprise. A cat the color of the charred landscape around them seemed to have leaped from the earth itself and latched a fearsome hold on the nape of the red-furred animal's neck. The fox let out a startled yip and tried to shake it off, but to no avail. Like blood drawing sharks, the other cats closed in an began their assault. Pain. Agony. Their claws wrought upon the fox's flesh like swords and spears. Snapping uselessly at the air, the fox began to release shrill cries of panic.
Fox is still under the effect of Teeth Grip; Turn 1/3
Bloodstrike watched his clanmates close in on the fox and smirked seeing his strategy work. It was time to start putting this fox down and stop that infernal yapping. He charged forward and stood on his hind legs, intending to come down with just as much ferocity as he had on One Ear, but this time with lethal intentions. There was no room for forgiveness or mercy in Bloodstrike's heart. There probably never would be again for foxes.
Bloodstrike used Rending Front Paws, dealing 17 damage and -25SP

The swiftness with which the rest of the patrol attacked was not lost on Wolfstar. Even gentle Primroselight bloodied her claws on the foul beast's pelt, and the fox couldn't even defend itself against the onslaught. It bucked and writhed beneath him, but the leader's grip was certain, and the fox's movements only made him dig deeper.
Wolfstar continued Teeth Grip on the Fox, dealing 16 damage. 1 turn remaining.

Even sweet-natured Primroselight rushed in to attack the fox. She was a stronger warrior than she gave herself credit for. Smokefeather knew she didn't enjoy bloodshed; Smokefeather generally didn't either. But her daughter knew what had to be done, just as the rest of the patrol did. This fox wouldn't get the chance to escape, wouldn't get the chance to harm any more of Skyclan's ranks. If it had been the one to kill Dustpaw or not was uncertain, but as far as Smokefeather was concerned it didn't matter.
She reared up, slashing at the fox with a vengeance. The fox was considerably weaker than when they'd encountered it in their camp. Or perhaps it was that it was alone, and that the cats had only trained harder and become stronger since then.
Either way, the fox slowly stopped struggling beneath the patrol's unsheathed claws. Another quick slash of her claws, making sure it would never get back up again. Smokefeather's gaze swept over her mate, daughter and leader, looking for signs of injury, but finding none.
Two down. One to go.
Smokefeather used Rending Front Paws on Fox for -25sp, dealing -15 damage.
