Crowpaw’s Moonstone Journey

Daisybloom rose in her den, yawning as she stretched out quietly. She picked up a bundle of herbs for traveling, and started to exit her den. She remembered taking Pinefrost to the Moonstone not to long ago. Now he was a mentor, and an uncle. Crowpaw was young, but according to the apprentice’s mentor, was progressing quickly. The parentage of Cedarheart’s litter was a clan mystery, but nobody was rude enough to ask. With the first rays of sunlight shining down on her back, she made a sudden realization.

The litter without a father. Cedarheart’s. Cedarheart is a brown tabby.

The mystery had seemingly been solved in the morning light. She needed to speak to Nettlestar and Mossbloom about it when she returned. Starclan had put everything into place, and she had solved it. She felt a sense of pride, but also dread. She was scared for the warrior, even if she did break the code. Urging herself forward and pushing the revelation to the back of her mind, she crawled into the apprentice den and nudged Crowpaw.

Leaving the den to wait for the apprentice, she gulped.

Crowpaw's eyes snapped open at the sound of Daisybloom's voice. Nestled among his siblings, the dark tabby lifted his head, watching the medicine cat disappear out of the den. Unwinding himself from the others, he picked his way daintily around the sleeping apprentices, and poked his head into the camp. "Daisybloom?" he queried, noticing her uncomfortable expression. "Is everything okay?"

Daisybloom shook her head. "Oh! No, not at all. I was, er, um, just thinking about when I took Pinefrost to his Moonstone." Her voice was a bit high-pitched and fast, but maybe it would be ignored as she wan stay the best at conversations anyways. Grabbing the herbs, she laid them in front of the apprentice and took her own. The bitter taste had gotten better over the moons, but most apprentices gagged at the taste.

”These don’t taste great, just a warning." she quickly paced towards the exit of camp, waiting for him to follow so they could set off on their journey.

"Oh, alright," he replied with a shrug. Crowpaw padded forward, sniffing at the herbs and wrinkling his nose. The medicine cat had warned him about the taste but he still wasn't prepared for his bitter they were as he chewed them to a pulp and swallowed. The taste lingered on his tongue, making his eyes water. Once they were down, he ran his tongue over his teeth, drooling profusely, and nodded at Daisybloom. "I'm ready!"

Crowpaw bounced towards the entrance of the camp, his tail high and eyes wide.

Daisybloom smiled, glad that he had accepted the response he had given. When she got back she would need to speak with Mossbloom and Nettlestar, but for now, all was alright. Taking the lead, she started to walk the path that she had walked many times since earning her title as a medicine cat. And before she knew it, the pair was at their destination. Leading Crowpaw through the dark tunnel, she watched as the stone lit up, and gestured for him to lay beside her and touch his nose to the stone. Maybe she would get a message as well as him, but maybe not.

Crowpaw had not expected the journey to the Moonstone to be so long, and by the time they got there, he was exhausted. His paws ached, and he was tired enough to lay down and sleep for a week, but he was so excited when they finally reached it that he could barely contain himself. The tunnel to the Moonstone was dark, and he probably should have been scared, but how could he be, with something this cool in the works? Was he really going to get to talk to a StarClan cat? The prospect of that was incredibly exciting.

Moving to the stone, he lay down and touched his nose gently to it.

On large, sparkling paws, Silentstrike stepped forward through the tall grasses of the starry moor, approaching Crowpaw with a sense of unease. The last time he'd spoken to an apprentice, he'd been... rather shocked, to say the least. But Silentstrike was sure that wouldn't be the case here, as this tom was a bit more... cool natured, he supposed. Not quite as... well, aggressive. He cleared his throat slightly as he came closer, sitting down about a fox length away from the young ThunderClanner while he waited for the first signs of his awakening to appear. Ah, a twitch, and a little wiggle of his whiskers- there he was. "Time to wake up, Crowpaw." He meowed, tempted to move forward and prod the sleeping tom a bit.
