Another Day, Another Battle [solo battle]

In the midst of everything that had happened recently, with the drought and the heat wave, the SkyClan fire, Aspenheart's death, Olivestone could say that she was a bit stressed, at the very least. Reports of a eagle beginning to nest in the far reaches of the territory was just another problem in the growing list of things to worry about, though, this was one she could actually do something about.

It was mid-morning as she raced across the moor, the ground only meeting her paws for a split second before they left the ground again. She headed towards the last known site of the eagle, and she was reminded of the last time she'd done a mission like this. She and Ploverpuddle had done the same thing, but this time, she was alone. She knew she could handle a eagle, and it was the eagle she was seeking. It didn't take too long, racing up and over and around hills on the familiar tracks that had been carved into the terrain from generations and generations of paws that had traveled along them, and soon she slowed, approaching an area that was suspiciously devoid of prey-scent.
Makes sense that prey is avoiding this area.

With a glance up to the sky, the deputy slowed to a stop as she spotted a nest on a rocky outcropping right outside the border. The nest was unoccupied, but common sense told her that the eagle wouldn't be too far away. As sure as the sun shone, the splitting cry of the eagle reverberated through the air, and Olivestone barely recoiled in time to avoid the sharp talons diving for her face. The wind from its wings battered her, but she stood tall, watching and waiting for the eagle to come back down into range.

It didn't take long, and the eagle circled back to pass the deputy again and attempt another attack. She stood her ground as the eagle dove in, talons extended, and at the last second, she sidestepped the eagle, letting it plummet into the ground, effectively stunning itself. Despite her fabled speed, the talons still managed to rake her side on the way down, and she hissed in pain as blood welled up from the scratches. While it was grounded, she pounced on its back and raked her claws through its feathers, using her WindClan speed to her advantage.

The eagle used Talon Strike on Olivestone, dealing 10 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Olivestone used Rending Front Paws and Swift Strike on the eagle, dealing 24 [17+7] damage and costing 35 [25+10] stamina.

Olivestone knew her strength and her own limits well, and knew that she could easily overpower this eagle, given enough time. The eagle quickly managed to throw her off its back, and soon climbed back into the sky, dripping blood and feathers. While it was injured, it wasn't done yet, and circled back for another dive at the deputy.

This time, she was going to meet the eagle head-on. Claws extended, she leaped into the air, snagging them in the bird's feathers and flesh, and dragged it out of the air once more. Talons dug into her belly, and she snarled at the sensation, before flipping back over, the bird now underneath her, landing on top of the bird, talons still embedded in her skin. The eagle, grounded once more, allowed for Olivestone to rip into it, though the eagle still had enough fight in it to escape her claws again.

The eagle used Swoop, dealing 30 damage and costing 20 stamina.

Olivestone used Rending Front Paws, dealing 17 damage and costing 25 stamina.

Olivestone could tell that the eagle was weakening, both from blood loss and the injuries she'd dealt to it. She figured that one last pass would be all that was needed to kill the bird, and she didn't have to wait long for the eagle to circle back around, and make one last dive at the deputy. She mentally prepared for the bite of talons in her skin, and suppressed a hiss as she tore free of them, whirling around to attack.

She tackled the bird to the ground one last time, and struck it down, slashing her claws across its throat. The cold lights in the eagle's beady little eyes died, and it fell still as the life left its body. As the adrenaline from the battle wore off, the pain from her own wounds caught up with her, and she had to take a moment to rest before picking up the eagle, which was now fresh-kill, and began to make her way back to her Clan.
