In The Dark of the Night [Closed]

Flintstar pulled himself from his den, taking a moment to do a luscious stretch with a shake of his pelt before he started to pad across the camp. Ever since Freckleface had admitted to him that she was now expecting their kits, he hadn't been willing to leave the camp - her side - that much. He...Didn't realize how nervous he was going to be but his mind would always drift back to when Thornstar had lost a life giving birth to his half-siblings and...They had been lucky enough that she had more lives so that the kits could have at least known her. He sighed, shaking his head. He wanted to stick close with Freckleface but she had pressed him to go out and...He suppose it was still so early. Maybe he could catch something nice for her. With that, he turned his direction towards the entrance of the camp and padded that way.

Ebonysong wanted to hunt again, since she felt like she didn’t have enough contribution towards the Clan. Sighing to herself, she headed outside of camp, stopping abruptly as she saw a figure among the shadows. It was Flintstar, Ebonysong guessed. Only he was big, bulky and fluffy like that, except for Smokepaw, that is. Ears perking up, she walked towards her leader. “Uh. Hi. Flintstar...uhm, what are you doing out here?” The dark gray she-cat commented awkwardly, icy-blue eyes shining in the dark. “I’m going out for a hunt...want to go together?” Smiling nervously, the young warrior waited for a reply.

Flintstar paused at the sound of pawsteps, turning to look at Ebonysong as she greeted him. He tilted his head as she mentioned her plans to hunt, a good-nature huff escaping him. "Well, I was about to go hunting myself. Freckleface suggested I get some fresh air and so I decided that she could use some fresh prey. So," he paused, before he jerked his head in the direction of the camp. "So yes, I suppose we can hunt together. Come along." He was never a fond of hunting with others but Freckleface had also been pressing him to actually work on bonding with his Clanmates like he always said he was going to. He didn't know Ebonysong this well, he suppose this would perhaps be a chance to fix that.

Ebonysong nodded at her leader, knowing that he preferred to be alone. As they reached a good place to hunt, the younger warrior scratched at her neck. “Wow...greenleaf is really warm. How do you deal with this heat?” With that being said, she instantly dropped into a hunting crouch, already spotting a mouse. They were her favorite and she secretly enjoyed killing them more than other prey. Ebonysong was rather...strange like that. Padding forward lightly, the she-cat’s eyes shined in determination as she prepared to pounce...and landed with both paws pinning down the mouse. With a blow to the head, Ebonysong carried her catch towards Flintstar, before digging a small hole and dropping the fresh-kill inside.

Flintstar enjoyed the silence that carried between the two of them as they headed for The Pine Grove, huffing as they reached it and she questioned how he was dealing with the heat. "Silently suffering through it," he admitted, giving a shrug of his shoulders. This thick dark fur made the heat cling at him and he had been having to deal with the fact that he was shedding. It only made him miss the cold weather, his thick fur was made to survive that, not the humid heat that Greenleaf had brought. "At least it is cooler in the night. Hopefully we won't suffer as much as the other Clans might.

He fell silent as Ebonysong stepped away to stalk a mouse, watching as she diligently stalked the rodent and easily caught and killed it. "Good catch," he meowed as she showed it off. He turned, leaving her to find a place to hide it as he tasted the air. His eyes scanned the shadows, spotting a lone frog resting on a rotting log. He dropped into a crouch, stalking forward with surprising grace for his large size, shifting so he was downwind. He approached as close as he dared, his yellow eyes gleaming from the shadows as he pushed off into a leap. He landed on the frog, quickly ending its life before he picked it up and headed towards where Ebonysong had disposed of her catch.

Flintstar attempted to catch a frog (+2 to hunting roll from Pine Grove). He succeeded, costing 3 stamina.

Ebonysong nodded at her leader, before tracking down a lizard. I suppose I could try... She didn’t have much experience with lizards before. Ebonysong knew they were very fast, so she had to act quickly too. Grinning in excitement, she padded closer and closer towards the reptile. It’s eyes looked around, tail swishing across the forest floor. It seemed oblivious to the fact that it was about to become fresh-kill. So far so good... Then, she leapt at the lizard. Her paws landed onto her prey and it fell limp in her jaws as she bit the lizard’s neck. Satisfied with her catch, she buried it near her last one.

Dropping off his prey near where Ebonysong had buried hers, he turned and started to stalk around the outside of the clearing. His mouth was open, tasting for prey when something caught his attention. It was...Different. He had smelled a lot of prey in his time but this scent wasn't familiar to him as he froze, eyes scanning the shadows. His eyes locked onto movement, a large shape shifted through the undergrowth. The moonlight caught its fur, revealing a shade that was...Familiar. For a second, he could have mistaken it for the old SkyClan deputy if it wasn't for the odd smell and larger shape.

...Oh.

The tom had been named Foxfire, hadn't he?

"Ebonysong!" he bellowed, spinning to see the warrior burying another piece of prey. "There is a fox, don't let you guard dow-" In an almost ironic way, he had not been prepared for when the fox suddenly came barreling from the undergrowth, slamming into the leader with full force as fangs sank into his shoulder. He grunted as he brought a heavy paw straight to the fox's muzzle, getting it to withdraw with an shake of its head. Blood spattered the ground as he kicked out at the fox, tearing his back claws against his belly as he used that to help push him free from its grasp, rolling to his paws as he made sure to keep between Ebonysong and the hostile predator - after all, he had many lives he could risk to lose to keep his Clan safe.

Ebonysong whipped her head towards the sound of her leader’s voice, gasping as a fox appeared. Rage filled her as it bit down onto Flintstar. “No!” With a wail of fury, Ebonysong reared up onto her hind legs, slashing furiously at the fox’s muzzle. Dropping back down onto all fours, she snarled at the fox ferociously. “Flintstar?! Are you okay?!” She called out, hoping that her leader didn’t lose a life. Ebonysong didn’t know how many he had left, and all of them would hopefully not go to waste. Oh no this is bad...two warriors, against a fox? Ebonysong’s eyes were alert and bright, tracking the fox’s next movements.

Flintstar ducked to the side as Ebonysong raced past, flanking the fox as he swiped at it - trying to pull its attention away from the warrior before it could retaliate for her blows. "I'm fine, don't worry about me!" he replied as she called out to him, bearing his teeth as the fox turned to face the bigger threat. "I've survived worse." With a grunt, he threw himself at the fox's face, claws slashing down in as he tried to force it back - which it started to retreat for a couple steps before it lunged forward. Its jaws snapped onto one of his legs, wrenching it as it tugged but he slammed his other paw into the side of its face, serving only to wrench his leg a bit but the fox relented and released him. He stumbled back, blood dripping from his leg as he took a moment to study the wound.

...Nope, he had still had suffered worse wounds in the past. He glanced back up at the fox, a rumble escaping in his throat as he lowered his head and stalked forward on all legs despite the shooting pain that came from his injured leg and shoulder, determined not to waver in the face of danger.

Ebonysong flinched as the fox bit again. Growling in frustration and anger, she turned around and kicked at the fox, who was not focused on her. “We’re gonna have to send you back to Mothglow after this fight, then.” She yelled, hoping that Flintstar could hear her through the clawing and snarling. She ran towards the other side of the fox, intent on grabbing it’s attention. “Hey! Over here! I’m a delicious morsel of fresh-kill!” Ebonysong yelled, trying to distract the fox from Flintstar. He had taken too much damage and she would protect him at all costs.

Ebonysong used back kick, causing 13 (+2 from Night Finesse) damage and costing 15 SP.

The fox had been intent on Flintstar, snarling as the leader slowly approached but as claws raked its side and Ebonysong shouted, its head snapped toward her. "No, Ebonysong, let me handle it!" Flintstar shouted back at her but the fox had changed course and was stalking toward the she-cat. The leader's eyes flickered between the two as he jumped forward to start a sprint to try to reach the fox before it could close the distance to the warrior but his injured leg gave out, causing him to stumble to the ground. He bared his teeth as he he forced himself up anyways.

The fox quickly close the distance, ramming into the dark gray she-cat, teeth going for her shoulder. It didn't see the leader quickly making ground...Or Flintstar leaping onto its back. He felt the fox jolt underneath his weigh, barely keeping his balance as his leg burned in agony. The fox dropped its grip on Ebonysong, head turning to try to snap at the leader but Flintstar reared backwards and brought his entire weight down just short of its head - right onto its neck. The following snapping sound wasn't pretty as his claws sank deep into the tissue, tearing at it as the fox's legs suddenly gave out beneath it, its head rolling uselessly to the side. The ShadowClan leader tumbled off, landing on his injured shoulder. He sat there panting as he raised his head to try to look at Ebonysong. "Are you...Alright?" he questioned, before he let his head hit the ground, trying to catch his breath.

"...I suppose...We are both going to see Mothglow once we get back."

Ebonysong’s eyes widened as the fox charged towards her. She attempted to dodge the pair of teeth, but it was too late. As the fox bit into her shoulder, she gasped in pain, feeling the agonizing pain traveling from her right shoulder. Ebonysong winced as the fox dropped her onto the ground, her right shoulder hitting it first. She barely saw the fox dropping onto the ground as Flintstar killed it through the haze of pain. As her leader asked her if she was fine, Ebonysong forced herself to stand up, keeping pressure off of her right forepaw. “Yeah...I think so...” She let out a laugh, which quickly turned into a flinch. “I’m sure she’ll wonder what happened.” Ebonysong nodded towards Flintstar. “It was...fun, hunting with you. You should interact with your Clanmates more, I’m sure they’ll appreciate that.”
