Catch (closed)

Redpaw gasped as the raccoon struck Swansong. She's hurt! But if the raccoon had hit me, I'd be dead, or hurt much worse. Although he hated himself for thinking it, he knew that it was better for Swansong to be hit than himself. He watched as Swansong slashed at the raccoon, but she was growing more tired, and he couldn't just stand around and do nothing.

Redpaw yowled angrily and ran straight at the raccoon. He ducked his head and hoped it wouldn't hurt as he slammed into the raccoon. His head hurt, yes, but it was worth it a moment later when the raccoon stopped moving. Cautiously, he poked it with a claw. Nothing happened. He glanced at Swansong, uncertainty in his eyes. "Did we kill it?"

Redpaw used run-and-tackle, dealing 6 damage and costing 8 stamina.

Swansong gave one last slash at its head, her shoulder aching with pulsing fire, hoping it would be enough to drive off the hissing creature in front of her, and then-

A reddish blur slammed into it headfirst, a crack breaking through the air as they hit the ground, the raccoon falling still. She looked from it to Redpaw as her apprentice poked it with a claw, caution mixed with a feeling of shocked amazement. Limping closer, she carefully watched its still pelt for any signs of movement, though the scent of new death wafting up from it confirmed it was indeed that way. "I... I think we did."

She shook her head, gazing down at the apprentice, admiration shining through the pain in her eyes. "I have to say that was amazing, Redpaw. You fought like a warrior!" She dipped her head slightly with a smile. "I have no doubts you'll make a fine one, too."

Redpaw grinned at Swansong's praise. A tingly feeling shot through him. She's such a nice cat. One of the few that believe in me. He realized he was standing dumbstruck like a mouse-brain and quickly snapped back into a more attentive position.

He glanced at the raccoon and tipped his head. "What do we do with it?" The raccoon, I mean. If we leave it here maybe it'll attract foxes, I dunno." All the same, I don't fancy carrying it around. Ew.

Swansong shook her head, sudden weariness tugging at her paws. The stinging in her shoulder had faded to more of a deep ache, and the blood flow seemed to be slowing, but still... "I don't think we'll be able to drag it anywhere right now. We can tell Wolfcall, and he'll send out a patrol that can bury it." She glanced at the dark body once more, her nose wrinkling slightly at the smell of it.

"I'm sorry, but I think we'll have to cut this training session short," She said with a sigh, before turning a slightly wan smile back to him. "But that mouse you caught is enough."
