Getting to know (open)

Spotlake looked around camp. Crowpaw was out hunting and Clovertwist was sleeping. Spotlake thought about doing that but the camp was mostly deserted except for the cats in the medicine cat den, Clovertwist, the newest apprentices and the kits. Spotlake was the only well enough awake warrior in the whole camp. Spotlake sat down watching the camp entrance.

Downkit sprang out the nursery and ran down into the clearing, yowling over his shoulder, "C'mon, Softkit!"

As the sandy-ginger tabby wasn't looking where he was going, he charged straight into Spotlake, rolling over with an 'oof.'

His smaller, silver tabby sister followed him out slowly, though her blue eyes widened at the scene, "Spotlake! Are you alright?" Softkit asked, rushing to her side and peering at her with anxious eyes.

Spotlake felt a small force on her almost jumping up. But it was just Downkit. The two kits looked tiny against her. "I'm okay. Just be careful when you run okay?" Said Spotlake. She imeaditly felt weird. Her voice was now deep and mature. Just yesterday Spotlake's voice was squeaky and kit like.

Downkit ruffled up his fur indignantly, "Well, you shouldn't sit in the middle of camp!" He protested, his voice still very much kit-like, making his protest sound a whole lot less threateningly; though you probably shouldn't tell him that.

Softkit batted Downkit's ear with her paw, "Downkit! Spotlake is a warrior, remember? You shouldn't talk to her like that! She might just tell Barelytuft or Graybriar!"

Spotlake looked at Downkit. "Well if I was some other cat I would've told Greybrair but I'm not some other cat. I'll move towards the Tallrock." Meowed Spotlake. "Hm who ever gets as an apprentice will have their paws full that's for sure." Spotlake got up onto her paws and padded over to Tallrock. She noticed a feather on the ground and pushed towards the kits.

"Show me how you can hunt." Said Spotlake to both of the kits.

Softkit hesitated, staring at the feather. Was this a test? Was she supposed to leap at the feather? What if she missed? Would that mean she would never be an apprentice? Or what if it was a different type of test? What it you weren't supposed to jump on the feather? What if it was a test to see how kit-like they still behaved? Surely only kits attacked feathers. Softkit's blue stared at the feather, pondering what to do, her tail twitching ever so slowly. That was a sign she was in deep thought.

Downkit's ears lowered at the prospect of her telling his mother, though he perked up when he saw the feather. Downkit, unlike Softkit, instantly crouched down. Waggling his hindquarters, he pounced, tail swishing, and landed directly on the leaf. "Yes!" He yowled joyously, tail raised high in pride.

Spotlake nodded. While Downkit was going be a pawful for his mentor he'd be a good hunter. She looked towards Softkit. "Its okay if don't want to Softkit. Not all cats want to become warriors." Said Spotlake reasurringly. The two kits were very different from each other but it was clear that they loved each other alot. "Heh I wouldn't be surprised if Downkit became leader and Softkit was his trusty medicine cat."

Downkit peered at his sister, sympathy in his eyes, "Softkit? You don't have to be a warrior, if you don't want." He mewed, a tinge of sadness in it. He always thought him and Softkit would be apprentices, and then, later, warriors together. Downkit perked his ears up at the mention of him being leader with Softkit for his medicine cat, "Softkit is soft like a fluffy cloud! We'll be Downstar and Softcloud! the young tom declared joyously, rushing to Softkit's side and nuzzling her cheek. When he became leader, he'd make sure nobody ever hurt his family; or his clanmates.

Softkit was silent. Did she really want to be a warrior? No, not really. She didn't like hurting other cats. It just wasn't her. But did she want to be a medicine cat? She wasn't sure. She hadn't really thought about what she wanted; she just wanted to be wherever Downkit was. She heard the sadness in Downkit's mew, and it broke her heart in two. Maybe she'd talk to Aspenheart later. Maybe. "You'd be a good leader, Downkit," she mewed, "If you can keep your pelt clean!" Softkit teased, gently pulling a twig from her brother's tabby fur.

Spotlake smiled at the kits. The two were in fact very close. "Hey do you want a rabbit from the freshkill pile?" Asked Spotlake.

Downkit's eyes shone, "We haven't had rabbit yet! Do you want some, Softkit? I'm famished!"

Softkit's blue eyes twinkled with interest; she hadn't had rabbit before either. If WindClan ate mostly rabbit, it must be delicious! "Yes, please, Spotlake!" She mewed enthusiastically, excited about trying rabbit for the first time.

Spotlake padded towards the burrow where the freshkill was kept."Come on then!" She meowed as she grabbed a rabbit. It was pretty plump ecpessily since it was leafbare.

Softkit trailed after Spotlake; Downkit keeping pace with her. "Wow.. It's huge!" Softkit mewed breathlessly, it was, in fact, pretty plump. And it smelled delicious.

Downkit's mouth watered at the site, "That looks tasty!" He mewed, moving closer to take a sniff at it. He'd remember that for when it came his time to be an apprentice; he'd impress his mentor so much!

Spotlake set down the prey. "You guys have your prey teeth right?" Asked Spotlake. She didn't want to endanger the kits.

Downkit nodded, opening his mouth to reveal sharp, tiny white fangs. Sniffing the prey, he turned to Softkit, "Here, this part looks tender, you take the first bite." He offered, pointing a paw at the tender area of the hare, and then stepped back for Softkit to take the first bite.

Softkit padded forward and cautiously took a bite. She closed her eyes and chewed, expecting a somewhat bitter taste, but instead, she was pleased to find it had a tasty, if somewhat earthy, and juicy flavor instead. She swallowed and looked at Downkit happily, "It's amazing! You've got to try some!" She encouraged, looking over at Spotlake, blinking a thank you to her.

Downkit swallowed a mouthful and stared at Spotlake in shock. "This is the best thing I've ever eaten!"

Spotlake purred. "Yeah! I heard in the other clans that rabbit are rare on other territories and that its a treat!" Said Spotlake. She laid down and took a bite out of one of the rabbit's legs.
