Hunting Together [Closed]

Honeytongue stood a whisker-length away from the entrance of the camp, staring to the reeds and feeling torn. She had been planning to go hunting, but yet something held her back. She...She didn't want to hunt alone, for some reason. She knew she was capable - she was a warrior now, she could hunt on her lonesome but perhaps it was the fact that she had been spending so much time with her Clanmates it felt...Wrong. She was slowly reconnecting with everybody, spending time with cats she had grown apart from and meeting new faces. And so she was left wondering who she would ask...When a familiar scent caught her attention. "Stormbringer!" she gasped, turning her head toward her friend. The two hadn't gotten much change to speak recently - she would be perfect. "Do you want to go hunting with me?"

Stormbringer froze at the call of her name. Her eyes flicked around for a moment until they landed on Honeytongue, who was looking right back at her. Hunting? She might have gotten back from a border patrol not too long ago but she didn't mind going out again. It was better than sitting in camp in her opinion. "Sure. Hunting sounds nice." She said as she approached the honey colored cat. "Lead the way."

Honeytongue's eyes lit up, whole face beaming as Stormbringer agreed to join her. It was perfect, she would get to talk to her friend and spend time together along with catching prey for the Clan. "Of course," she meowed as she turned, leading the gray warrior into the territory. She allowed the two to walk in silence for a bit as she directed them toward the river - figuring fish would the the smallest choice as the days were growing colder and land prey was getting harder to find. "So," she finally said, glancing over her shoulder to smile at her friend. "How are you like being a warrior? It's pretty exciting, isn't it? All of our new freedom and responsibility..."

Stormbringer nodded in response to Honeytongue's words. "Its wonderful. The freedom is nice especially. Granted I don't use it to lay around and do nothing." She took a moment to stop and stretch as they moved towards the water. "I like being out here and doing things the most. Anything to help the clan." Which was true. She hardly had an idle moment. There were times she did stop but it was mostly to sleep. Though her constant moving made it hard to stop and talk with the clan she was trying to help, but with the approaching leaf-bare help was more important than interacting.

Honeytongue nodded her head, returning her gaze to the ground in front of them to make sure she wasn't about to lead them into a lone bush. "Yeah, its nice to just be able to...Help people," she meowed, a soft sigh escaping her. "Ever since I was small, I've wanted to help people - and while I prefer to...Talk to others, check up on them and make sure they are doing alright, making sure the Clan is well-fed and protect is nice."

She hadn't been sure at first if the hunting life was going to be for her, she wanted to cheer people up but Mudpaw had made a point - the smallest things helped. Always going out and catching prey meant that the others wouldn't have to worry about it as much, that they could focus on their own needs. Finally, they reached the river as she crouched by the shore. There was also something relaxing about fishing, if she was being honest. It was a game of patience, waiting for a fish to swim close enough to be caught... Her tail swished as she peered over the bank, carefully arranging herself so that she didn't cast a shadow onto the water's surface.

Then she waited...And waited...Until the shadowy shape of a fish drew close and she struck out toward it. However, the shifting of reeds behind her threw her off as she suddenly sat upright. Her ears perked, waiting for any sign of what had made the noise to go again - it hadn't sounded like another cat, no...It was more clumsy. There was a flicker of gray and black from the reeds, an unfamiliar scent hitting her. "Stormbringer..." she warned softly as she raised herself to her paws, her fur standing to stand on edge.

Suddenly, something threw itself from the reeds straight at Honeytongue as her eyes widen. She knew the creature - not from seeing it herself but stories and warning about them. "Raccoon!" she screeched, just in time for it to ram into her. The warrior hissed as the thing slashed at her, striking her cheek as she barely stood her ground and kept the both of them from tumbling into the water as a fight. Her eyes were wide as it backed off, to startled to gather herself as she stared at the hissing beast, wondering what had driven it to attack them in the first place.

Honeytongue missed a fish, costing 3 stamina, but a wild raccoon as appeared.

Stormbringer listened to her friends words. She knew the golden she-cat had always preferred to help others with her words, while the gray she-cat was different. Stormbringer herself preferred to make sure the clan was safe and feed as her way of helping. She wasn't the best with words, nor did she really care for anyone outside of Riverclan. But she could make sure someone kind like Honeytongue always had safety to return to when they were done helping anyone and everyone for the day.

The gray warrior stepped up to the water as well to start fishing, waiting for her partner to catch something first, when the change in the usual water sound caught her attention. Looking at the same thing Honeytongue was. Her friends whispered warning came across her ears. "I know.." She said back. Her amber eyes narrowed. When it appeared, the gray warrior let out an internal sigh. It was always predators. Couldn't she hunt in peace for once?

She quickly made her way to her friends side, taking action against the Raccoon that attacked her clannmate. She sprinted forward, and launched herself at the gray and black creature. Her claws digging into it before it was sent sliding away from her.

The raccoon hissed and snarled as it was suddenly attacked from the side by the other cat, quickly scrambling away a bit as its beady black eyes shifted between the two as if deciding who to attack...And leaped once again at Honeytongue as she was already injured.

Honeytongue eyes were wide as Stormbringer suddenly rammed into the raccoon, sending it rolling away from her as she struggled to pull herself together. She could do this, she had fought and killed a badger before. A raccoon was nothing. Her eyes shifted onto the creature, realizing that it was making another leap at her. But this time, she wasn't frozen in place as she darted to the side, letting it roll past her as it let out a startled hiss.

Wild Raccoon used Quick Swipe on Honeytongue, dealing 20 damage and costing 10 stamina.

The gray warrior reacted quickly to the raccoon attacking her friend again. She watched the other two, as she closed the distance. A noise of praise escaping the younger warrior as her friend managed to dodge the attack, knowing Honeytongue would have countered if there had been an opening, but luckily she didn't need to counter when she had another warrior at her side.

The gray warrior lashed out at the raccoon with her front claws. With some speed and some gracefulness on Stormbringer's part, she twisted in her spot and her back legs made contact with the smaller body. Sending it into the water behind them.

Stormbringer used Front Paw Strike dealing 8 damage, minus 10 SP.

The Raccoon (forcibly) fled the battle!

Stormbringer watched at the creature struggled against the water and floated away further down stream. Whether it made it out or not she didn't care. It wasn't there problem anymore and it hopefully wouldn't be coming back. The gray warrior quickly turned her amber gaze back to Honeytongue. "Are you alright? You took a hit." She said, speaking inbetween pants. "Do we need to go back to camp and see Mistlepaw? She asked.

Honeytongue watched silently as Stormbringer engaged the raccoon once again, sending it into the river as she watched it disappear into the waters. With any luck, it would drown and not bother another cat... But now that the battle was over, she let out a shaky breath as she sank into a sitting position. Her ears perked at the sound of her friend's concerned voice, glancing up with a shaky smile. "I'm fine, it's nothing major," she meowed as she turned her head to try to look at it. It hurt but it didn't look very deep - she could wait a bit. It felt wrong to head back to camp so soon with empty paws, even if the situation did make it understandable.

After a few heartbeats, she sighed and lowered her head, giving it a shake. "I-I'm sorry, I should have helped you fight it. I froze and...That was stupid of me - I've fought predators before but...I dunno. It was just...So sudden." She had done nothing, she hadn't even laid a claw on it while Stormbringer had been the one to deal with it. They were both warriors but...She certainly didn't feel like she acted like a warrior in that fight. What would Ivybrook or her father think...

Stormbringer shook her head. "Predators appearing out of the blue can shake up any warrior no matter how seasoned." It surprised her too, but since she was attacked by a predator anytime she went out hunting her reaction to them go better. "The fact that you managed to dodge an attack is wonderful. Shows great skill on your part." She meowed, butting against her friend slightly to give her some comfort and to lighten the mood. "Plus you kept it distracted enough for me to deal the damage. If it turned on me at some point, well there goes an advantage we had. It sucks that you had to take a hit for that to happen though."

She nudged her friend again, this time back towards the water. "Come on. Let's hunt like we originally intended. Maybe the raccoon floating down stream scared the fish back towards us." She said with a smile on her face. "Can't let a good chance like this pass us by."

Honeytongue's smile slowly returned as Stormbringer tried to cheer her up, all recalling her silent pledge to herself - she wasn't going to let herself be down, she had to be strong for the others. So, she slowly buried the doubts in her head as she gave a soft nod. "Yeah...Fishing sounds great," she meowed, not sure if she had the words to really respond to her friend's pep talk other than for that. She slowly approached the river, settling down as she waited. It took a while - the raccoon's fall must have scared many of the fishes away but soon they returned...And Honeytongue swiped toward one.

There was perhaps a moment of panic that fate would repeat itself and she would be attacked by something else...But it was silence other than for the gentle splashing of the fish leaving the water and landing next to her - her fishing successful. A soft sigh of relief flooded through her as she quickly ended the fish's life, putting it between the two warriors so that they could start a little pile of their caught prey.

Stormbringer was somewhat pleased with herself. She was glad that her words were able to help Honeytongue in someway. She wasn't the best at using her words to cheer others up. She usually left it to someone like her friend but when her friend was in need of cheering up someone had to step in and take the role.

As soon as the other warrior took her place by the water, so did Stormbringer. The gray she-cat watched the water. Her eyes flicking to the different shadows in it. Some of them just to far away for her to reach. Amber eyes glancing back as she checked her shadow to make sure it wasn't on the water. She waited patiently for a shadow to get close. Her gaze locking on one, waiting and waiting for it to get close enough. Once it had in a flash her paw was in the water, ready to scoop up the fish.
