Hunting tails (Closed)

Time had passed, and Marshstorm found himself padding over to the front of the apprentice's den where Hawkpaw and Briarpaw were up and preparing for the day. Well, night... day or night. Marshstorm wasn't certain of the time, but he was certain there had been enough of it. The fresh-kill pile was looking bare, and he couldn't help but have some concern for it. Together, they could probably do a sizable dent into restocking it.

"Hawkpaw, Briarpaw." He meowed calmly. A small smile showed that this was a friendly visit.  "You're going to join me for your hunt today." He gestured towards the camp entrance.  "Once you're both ready, meet me at the entrance."

OOC: Briarpaw is a she-cat! XD It's okay though! Jag hadn't rped her in quite a while! :)

IC: Hawkpaw turned his head to look at the deputy when his and Briarpaw's names were called. Oh boy! He grinned and gave his good friend a little nudge. The both of them had been stuck doing camp chores for what seemed like forever. He led the she-cat towards Marshstorm, who was waiting at the entrance just like he had told them. He gave a smile as a greeting. Today was an exciting day.

Briarpaw nudged Hawkpaw back and followed the tom. When they got to Marshstorm, she dipped her head as a polite greeting. She was ready to go!

"Good, come with me then." He meowed before Marshstorm lead them to a small clearing near the large oak. It seemed like a good spot to hunt. Plenty of prey trails criss-crossed around, flooded his senses and led him to certainty that they would be able to bring home some prey.
"Alright, we'll hunt from here." He ordered watching the two apprentices calmly. "Show me what you've learned."

(OOC: Whoops, amended XD Both will get 3 turns.)

Hawkpaw had walked away h the intent of catching loads of prey. The tom eventually found himself stalking a squirrel munching on a nut. He waited a few silent moments to see if it had heard him. Once the coast was clear, he pounced. The tom frowned when it ran away. He got up only to spot a predatory bird coming down to swoop at him. The tabby tom instantly ducked, nearly having been taken away. The brown owl hooted and glared at him with deep, orange eyes. The tom spat and got ready to attack as it began to swoop once more. As it got close enough, Hawkpaw grabbed it with his claws and brought it down onto the ground. He then pinned it and proceeded to rake it's belly with his claws.

The screech of an owl alerted Marshstorm. The large deputy freezing in place before he bounded towards the noise as he heard the sounds of a battle nearby. Once he spotted the great bird, he snarled and threw himself at it. His outstretched claws raking down it's feathers.
"Hawkpaw! Briarpaw! Stay clear of it's beak!" He yowled, as he attempted to keep the large bird from thrashing free.

Marshstorm used Leap-and-Hold on the Owl. The Owl is pinned for 1 turn.

IC: Briarpaw was startled by the owl's screech she ran over to where the battle was taking place, eager to help out. The apprentice helped hold the bird down all the while raking it's belly with her sharp claws.

IC: Hawkpaw hissed at the feathered beast, backing away to let Marshstorm pin it down. The tom smirked and struck the predator with unsheathed claws. He grinned, knowing it couldn't last much longer. Maybe it could be taken back to camp as fresh kill.

The owl screeched in pain at the strikes and scars it was receiving. One larger cat was pinning it down. The bird began to thrash around, attempting to break free. Surprisingly, it achieved it's goal.

With a fierce battle yowl, the dark tabby tom lunged after the owl. His claws sank deep into it's feathers as it tried to fly away, his teeth finding it's throat for a killing bite as he ducked and twisted to avoid the fierce stabbing beak and raking talons. He waited with his jaws clamped over it's neck until it stilled. Now fresh-kill for the pile. His jaws unclenched and he let it fall to his paws as he looked carefully at Hawkpaw and Briarpaw.

"Are you both alright?" He asked, worried about potential injuries... though his  concern seemed to be unfounded. They were fine, and he could breathe a sigh of relief. "Think you both can still hunt?" He turned to the owl. "It will feed a few bellies, but a mouse or two on the way back wouldn't be remiss."

Briarpaw sighed in relief when the owl went down. She then nodded at Hawkpaw, seeming to read his mind. "We'll continue to hunt Marshstorm! This gave us more energy than tiring us out!" The apprentice smiled up at the deputy. She then began to walk to a random direction. Soon, Briarpaw noticed a squirrel nibbling on a nut. She purred and crouched down. After stalking it for a few moments, the apprentice pounced. The she-cat caught the creature with no problem and hid it. She then went to look for one more.

IC: Hawkpaw was about to answer when his best friend took the words right out of his mouth. All he could do was nod with a smile. The tom then rushed away, eager to catch some prey to make up for the one that escaped. Eventually, he spotted a bird pecking at the ground below. The tom dropped down into the hunting crouch and approached it. Then, he pounced with paws ready to catch. Ooops. It flew away before he even touched back onto the ground. The apprentice grumbled and walked away, sulking. He wanted to catch one real bad!
