A Young Life Cut Short (CLOSED)

Fernwing stalked slowly towards a rabbit that had strayed dangerously close to the gorge. If she missed this catch, the rabbit would probably leap into the abyss by accident, and then she would have to try for another one. She also knew that she couldn't hunt it the old -fashioned WindClan way, otherwise she would run right over the gorge regardless if she managed to catch it or not, so she had to rely on sneaking behind it and pray to StarClan it wouldn't see her. She knew she could always hunt somewhere else where it was safer, but this one was the biggest, juiciest rabbit she had encountered all greenleaf! She couldn't afford to lose it!

She was close enough to pounce on it, and since the rabbit still hadn't noticed her yet she began running through her fool-proof plan on catching it again through her mind. However, before she could make any moves, there was a startling ear-splitting yowl from behind. The rabbit noticed the loud sound and saw Fernwing practically on top of it, so it tried to flee. As expected, it lost its footing in its panic and fell down the gorge with a squeal that was abruptly cut off when it landed on the rocks below.

Giving a frustrated hiss, Fernwing whipped around to face whoever had cost her what could've been a meal large enough to feed all the kits of WindClan, but her blood turned to ice when she saw the lean, muscled, heavily battle-scarred dark tabby tom with piercing amber eyes glaring at her with such malice. Shade...

She began to tiptoe away from the edge of the gorge, slowly as to not provoke the dangerous, bloodthirsty rogue into action. "Wh-What are you doing here? This is WindClan territory. And you just cost me a grand meal for my Clan. I should drive you out for that, but considering what you've done to many other cats I should really kill you instead."

Shade threw his head back to let out a harsh yowl of laughter, then glared at the WindClan she-cat again. "Oh, that's just too rich! You think you could ever stand a chance against me? I've killed and disabled warriors before I was even banished from RiverClan! And all this training and practice has honed my, heh, kill skills, as I like to call them. I could easily do away with you... and that's exactly what I'm going to do."

He began stalked towards Fernwing, who was struggling hard not to step away from the terrifying, intimidating cat who she knew truly did have the power to take her life away. "You're the daughter of WindClan's deputy. You're the only living offspring he has left. And you're the cat who means absolutely everything to him. Once he finds out that he lost his precious daughter to a former RiverClanner, WindClan will declare war. And, naturally, I'll be rooting for your Clan. Even if WindClan has lost to RiverClan moons ago, with enough spite and vengeance WindClan will come on top, and then RiverClan will finally fall. After that, I will swoop in like a vulture, picking off every last cat who hasn't died in the bloodbath caused by WindClan, and I will take over as leader! From there, I will claim each Clan's territories and their cats and slaughter their leaders, deputies, and medicine cats one by one until there will be only one cat left fit enough to rule ShadeClan!

"Now, prepare to aid me in my quest to become Shadestar!" With a caterwaul, Shade launched himself at Fernwing and slammed hard into her, knocking her to the ground.

Fernwing's eyes widened and her heart thudded faster and faster with ever-growing fear as Shade proceeded with his monologue until she began to whimper softly. This cat was mad! And he was going to kill her! She didn't want to die yet, she still had so much to offer her Clan! And she didn't want to leave Swiftstep; what in StarClan's name would he do without her?

She squealed as Shade launched himself at her and knocked her down with speed that could very well rival WindClan's, and she huffed as she hit the rocky, dust-covered ground. She climbed back to her paws and snarled at Shade; she would not let him kill her if she had anything to say about it, and she would not let him cause a war between RiverClan and WindClan! Not if she had anything to say about it!

With a furious yowl of her own, she reared up on her hind legs and struck out at Shade's face with her claws, then dealt another quick blow with her other paw with lightning-fast reflexes before he could retaliate.

Fernwing used Rear-Up to Slash, followed by Swift Strike, on Shade, dealing 13 (+5) damage and costing 15 (+10) stamina.

Shade took the first attack with barely any problem, but the second attack caught him off guard and he stumbled to the ground with a hiss of pain. He was back up on his paws in no time, however, and he launched himself at Fernwing's scruff, grasping it hard between her teeth until his canines punctured through the skin, allowing little bits of blood to trickle free from the marks. He shook her around violently with a fierce growl.

Fernwing yelped as she was shaken around, the world beginning to spin around as colors started to swirl around in her vision. Blurred shades of green and blue and brown whirling around nonstop made her feel sick to her stomach. She didn't even realize right away that she had landed on her side on the ground, completely dazed and at Shade's mercy for his next attack.

With his next victim temporarily out of commission, Shade seized his chance and leaped onto her, pinning her down to the ground. Then, he began mercilessly raking his hind claws across her soft fluffy belly fur, sending clumps of light gray fur flying in the breeze high up into the air. It didn't take long for him to reach skin, then muscle, as he tore through her underbelly like she were nothing more than a piece of fresh-kill, mauled and reduced to a pulp by some inexperienced, aggravated apprentice. He closed his eyes, almost as if in a blissful state, soaking up the sounds of agony the she-cat made underneath him.

Yowling and crying in agony at the slash upon ruthless slash of claws against her now bloodied belly, Fernwing thrashed and jerked around underneath the muscle-toned rogue. Finally, she was able to kick him off and roll back up onto her paws, wincing and panting heavily at the pain. Her belly muscles screamed at her to stop and lay back down, but if she did Shade would surely have his way. Fighting back tears of pain and a growing yowl of agony rising in her throat, she broke into a sudden high speed and crashed hard into Shade, nearly sending him flying right over the edge of the gorge.

Gasping at the harsh blow to his chest that knocked the breath right out of him, Shade dug his claws into the grass and earth to keep himself from falling over the gorge. He struggled back up and regained his footing, but didn't rest, for Fernwing would be given the perfect opening to shove him right back in -- and he wouldn't be able to save himself if that happened again. He rushed to her, then slipped underneath at the last second to slash his claws against her badly injured belly, cutting open yet another gash. He rolled back up on his forepaws and turned to face her, where she stood closer to the edge of the gorge than he did.

Fernwing absolutely shrieked at the added duress on her already suffering wound, and she nearly lost her lunch at the severe pain she was so unfairly exposed to. She hunched over and, unable to think straight, merely lashed out a clawed paw at her enemy, catching his leg.

Shade winced with an inward hiss of breath at the throb in his leg, but otherwise he was able to ignore it, for adrenaline was beginning to kick in. Fernwing was losing, and losing badly. Just a few more strikes and he would be able to win everything! Rearing up once again, he pounced on her and held her down with a bite to the head and claws to her shoulders, pummeling his hind paws on her lower back so her wounded belly would slam repeatedly into the earth beneath her.

Weakened by all the painful strain forced onto her poor belly, Fernwing moaned and wailed, tears falling down her cheeks and bile beginning to rise from her throat. After a bout of upchucking, she gnashed her teeth together and focused hard on ignoring the ever-growing pain to set herself free. She slipped her forepaws underneath her shoulders and pushed up as hard as she could, knocking Shade off balance, and finally she twisted herself out from underneath him. Her legs began to heavily tremble, and she felt as if she would collapse underneath herself at any second.

Shade growled in frustration when he lost his grip. So she was still strong enough to fight, at least for a little bit. Well, her time of living ended now. He reared up once more on his hind legs, aimed his paws for Fernwing's ducked head, and slammed down as hard as he could on her head, slamming her jaw down onto the ground.

Fernwing only just had enough time to look up to see what Shade was preparing to do before the blow hit. Fierce pain shot through her jaw up through her skull, which was only ignited by the recurring agony in her belly. She struggled to let out a yowl, but all that came out was a loud, broken whine. She panted raspily, laying helplessly on her front, too injured to move anymore. She had lost, and now because of her inability to fight off the vicious rogue her dear father would have to face yet another loss of a loved one. First her mother and his mate, and now her.

Weeping softly, trembling from so much stress her body undertook, she awaited in unbearable, sickening anticipation for Shade's fatal blow upon her.
