Oakkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Swiftstep hopped up onto the Tallrock, amber gaze twinkling with joy. It seemed so quick but yet another kit was leaving their nursery life behind to begin their training to become a warrior. The tom's face morphed into a serious expression before starting. The deputy felt his chest whirl in excitement for this lucky youngster. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" Swiftstep called with an authoritative tone.

Oakkit had been sat on a rock, soaking in the sun's warmth as she watched the clan go by. The tabby cat enjoyed watching the clan work, they were all so strong and fast, she couldn't wait to be able to help them. Oakkit stretched and rolled onto her back, pawing at the air. I'll be just as strong as all the others! The she-cat purred contentedly.

Swiftstep's yowl brought Oakkit back into reality and the dazed she-cat shook out her fur, attempting to sort herself out. She watched as the clan gathered beneath the tall rock and Oakkit felt a pang of curiosity. What was happening? What were they talking about? Was it a ceramony? Had somebody else died? Oakkit shuddered at the last one, she remembered finding out Ashstar had died. Oakkit hated being so curious, maybe she'd sit this one out.

As more cats, gathered Oakkit found it almost impossible to resist and bounded off her rock and into the gathering cats, sat beneath the Tallrock. The tabby cat glanced down at her fur and gave it a few quick licks, she should at least look like she belonged there.

The brown tom looked directly down at Oakkit before continuing, "We all gather here today to make one of our kits an apprentice. Oakkit, please step forward." Once the young cat did, the deputy nodded approvingly and then began to speak again, "Oakkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Oakpaw. Falconbreeze will be your mentor. She may be a young warrior but I know she'll pass down everything she knows on to you."

When the deputy called her name, Oakkit looked around, almost expecting another cat named Oakkit to step froward. She hesitated a little more before cautiously standing up and meeting Swiftstep's gaze. Oaakkit couldn't believe it was her ceremony, she couldn't be six moons old- she didn't feel six moons old. Still, the tabby she-cat didn't particularly want to wait any longer to become an apprentice. Oakkit blinked and nodded her head, then stepped forward to touch her nose to her new mentor, Falconbreeze.

Falconbreeze stepped up with a joyful purr. She touched her nose to her new apprentice's. "Training will begin tomorrow at dawn so get some rest!" The tall warrior then headed back to her nest, excited to be getting an apprentice this early in her warriorhood.
