Brightkit stared out at the camp from the nursery with his piercing eyes. He was trying to decide whether or not he should go outside and roam around. On one paw, it would be pretty fun, but on the other, he was feeling particularly lazy that day. So he yawned and compromised by moving his lazing spot from near his mother to in the sunlight.

Dewtuft called out to the kit softly with a chirp, seeing his curious gaze from the nursery entrance. The warrior was unable to move much with his injury, but was happy to entertain a kit to pass the time.

Wolfpaw was gazing around camp when he found a pair of eyes staring back at him. For a moment, he was startled. Then he realized it was just another kit. Not a badger in the nursery, that would be B-A-D bad. He padded towards the kit. Something about Brightkit disturbed him. It reminded him of when Wolfpaw himself had sat around as a kit, watching rather than playing. "Don't you have someone to play with?" He asked gently, trying not to seem rude.

Brightkit was about to head over to the injured Dewtuft when Wolfpaw approached him first. He shook his head at the apprentice. "Nope but that's okay. Dewtuft was about to tell me a story or something," he replied happily. "Did you wanna come with?"

Wolfpaw shrugged. "I don't see why not."

One golden ear pricked up at the sound of his favourite word, "Story." Lionkit's amber eyes sprung open from where he lay beside his mother's nest in the Nursery and he bolted onto all fours. The large kit cried out in excitement as he dashed out of the nursery towards Dewtuft, "Can I hear the story too?" he pleaded of the older cat.

"Come in close. Have you ever heard the tale of how RiverClan and WindClan ended up in a feud? It's not the sort of tale that most elders would tell." The warrior looked friendly as possible, knowing that it was always intimidating when kits first ventured out of the nursery. He remembered how his kits had looked when they first stumbled out of nursery.

Wolfpaw hadn't heard that story before. He padded over towards Dewtuft, but not before snagging a rabbit for them. He set it down at Dewtuft's paws, and the tom sat down, interested in the topic said.

Brightkit's already wide eyes widen further, giving him an almost cartoonish look. "Tell us~" he said. He thought it was ThunderClan and RiverClan that feuded, not his clan and RiverClan.

"Well, you see, Brindlewhisker wasn't always our deputy. Did you know that Smokepelt was our deputy before her?" It was a little known fact that most tended to avoid speaking of, but that was stupid in Dewtuft's personal opinion. Why hide history? How else would the young learn? Anyway, Smokepelt had changed his ways, there was no shame in speaking of the past once you'd moved past it proper. That was his justification for bringing his father's greatest shame to light, that and a healthy dose of unresolved daddy issues.

Wolfpaw tilted his head. "Smokepelt?" He asked in confusion.

Lionkit gazed at the Warriors with unabashed eagerness, "Who's Smokepelt?" He asked earnestly, his amber eyes wide with curiosity.

Brightkit tilted his head slightly, curious. He had thought Ashstar was always the leader and Brindewhisker was always the deputy. "There can be different deputies?" he asked.

"Yes, he was demoted for his poor behaviour, though he has since proven himself a worthy warrior." He tacked on at the end, not wanting the kits to outright disrespect his father. "You see, there was a scuffle at our border over the usual nonsense. Trespassing, prey, something minor that warranted a fight, but not what happened that day... Smokepelt had led the charge against these RiverClanners, who were lead by some fishfaced warrior. But you see, rather than fight a fellow warrior as an honourable cat might do, he attacked an apprentice. Can you guess what happened?"

Wolfpaw winced. That exact thing had supposedly happened with Otterleap and Thistlepaw. "T-the apprentice... died?"
