Hunting In The Snow (Closed)

The scarred feline left his den as soon as the night arrived. He quickly ran to the apprentice den and looked for his apprentice, Foxpaw. ”Foxpaw! It’s time for a hunting patrol! If any other apprentice wants to come, I’ll take just one more. Meet me at the entrance.” He mewed before leaving the place and approaching the exit of the camp. His green eyes looked at the starry sky while he waited patiently for the young She-cat and maybe another apprentice. He didn’t mind too much. Actually, he enjoyed the company of younger cats.

Foxpaw sleepily tried to open her eyes as she heard someone calling her. It was Firestone. 'Training time...' she thought immediately. She yawned, yawning so hard that tears clouded in her eyes and her lips ripped a bit on the sides. She walked slowly out of the den and gave herself a little shake to loosen things up. Now she was awake.

Foxpaw stalked towards the entrance, where Firestone was. "My first hunting patrol?" she asked her mentor, "Is anyone supposed to join us?"

OOC: We’ll wait until tomorrow for anyone that would like to join this, if no one come, then we can continue together. BTW, I’ll add Cedarstorm (another one of my characters) to this patrol :3 Hope you don’t mind.

IC:

The warrior turned his head to the she-cat and nodded. ”Yes! Aside from hunting and fighting, a good warrior must learn how to work with their clanmates. That’s why a hunting patrol is perfect for this.” He answered before another she-cat approached them.

It was a beautiful brown tabby warrior who recently woke up from a long nap. With a bid of greeting, her blue eyes looked at the orange-furred tom, who seemed to be the leader of the patrol. ”Good night, Firestone. It seems that you and your apprentice are going on a patrol. Mind if I come with you?” She purred. The other warrior greeted her with a smile and nodded. ”Sure! We are leaving soon.”

Scorchfang approached the small group of ShadowClan cats with a rather uneasy smile. "Have room for one more? I'd like to catch something for Wildkit. He's about old enough to start eating fresh-kill now." After all this time, he still found it difficult to talk to his Clanmates who weren't very close to him like Brownpaw, Minnowpaw, or Crowfur. Stars, would he ever be able to shake his horrible past?...

Crowfur walked over to the assembling patrol. His eyes held no emotion as he stared at them. "A good night for some hunting eh? Mind if I join you all? I'd like to stretch my legs after a while of staying in camp." he spoke softly. The tom looked away as he waited for a response.

Firestone nodded at all the newcomers with a smile. He remembered doing a hunting patrol with Crowfur once but not with Scorchfang. Actually, he was like a stranger for the ginger tom but that wouldn’t stop him from training his apprentice. ”All of you are welcome to come with us. Let’s get going!” He purred, leading the patrol into the depths of Shadowclan territory.

Cedarstorm narrowed her eyes a bit when Scorchfang approached. She didn’t like the tom after all he said about she-cats but... he was the younger brother of her mate. She barely greeted him with a short nod before a dark-furred tom joined the group. Her mood lightened up when Crowfur said he wanted to come too. The beautiful brown feline walked to him and said hi nuzzling him lovingly. ”I’m happy that you’re coming too, my love. It’s been a while since our last night stroll, don’t you think?” She purred with a smile before following the leader of the patrol.

(Time skip)

”Okay, this place is fine. Let’s split up in two groups and hunt. Two pieces per cat should be enough for today. Foxpaw, you come with me and Scorchfang. Crowfur and Cedarstorm, I guess you don’t mind going together, right?” With that being said, the flame-furred tom left the group with the other tom and his apprentice.

”Foxpaw, you’re free now to hunt whatever you find. I’m sure you’ll do a good job.” He purred before starting to smell the air, searching for prey.

The blue-eyed feline purred when she was teamed up with her mate. ”Not at all, Firestone. Come on, Crowfur. We have a lot to hunt.” Cedarstorm trotted happily before she found a frog jumping in the snow. The she-cat lowered her body and jumped toward it. Swiftly, she killed the animal with her strong jaws.

Scorchfang shuffled uncomfortably at the look Cedarstorm shot him. He knew many cats in the Clan were still having a hard time accepting that he was a changed cat, and he certainly couldn't blame them. Hopefully tonight he would be able to prove to the she-cat that he had a strong newfound respect for she-cats.

Out in the forest, he listened to Firestone's instructions, and he secretly swore to make sure Foxpaw would always stay within earshot of him. Predators were fierce, hungry, and deadly creatures during leaf-bare as it was, but at night they were much more frequent. He went off to search for some prey himself, and soon he found a mouse scurrying under some fallen pine needles. He crouched down and stalked towards it before leaping, and the impact of his paws against its back crushed its spine. He buried the fresh-kill under the pine needles to hide it from predators and resumed his hunt.

Crowfur nodded and halfheartedly nudged Cedarstorm back. He wasn't feeling the best lately, in fact he hadn't eaten in days. Fortunately nobody noticed since his fluffy coat disguised his malnourished body. He couldn't even meet his mate's eyes because he thought she'd notice his depressed demeanor. The tom couldn't bare see his beloved mate worried for someone like him. He had done a good job hiding his true feelings and his physical weakness. His mate was so happy. A tiny smile bloomed from his quivering lips. His dull eyes brightened up as Cedarstorm caught the prey. The dark warrior quickly looked around and spotted a slippery lizard nearby. He began to crouch, getting ready to pounce. Once he was at the right angle, he pounced. The large warrior soon had the creature in his jaws. He hid it and began to look around for more prey.

Foxpaw saw other cats joining the patrol. When everyone came, they left the camp. She padded along next to her mentor. She saw the other cats split up and hunt. She did the same. Foxpaw sniffed the air for signs of prey. She scented a mouse. She crouched into hunting position and carefully stalked towards the mouse. When it was the right moment, she pounced on the mouse, biting its neck. The mouse's life ended swiftly. She went to where Firestone was and show him her mouse.

OOC: Hehe, sorry for that @Mochicupcake. Now let's follow the order: Jay Bird, Yoshachu, Middy and Mochicupcake. Remember, this ends when every cat captures two pieces of prey or when a predator shows up. Have fun!

EDIT: Nevermind, it seems that a predator showed up now XD.

BTW, @Middy, why is Crowfur so sad :((

Firestone watched happily how every cat started the hunting and he purred delightedly when his own apprentice brought him back a mouse. "That is a nice catch, Foxpaw. You have improved a lot your hunting. I can't be prouder of you! Go ahead and bury it here so we can come for it later." He chuckled, giving her a friendly nudge.

However, he couldn't let his clanmates doing all the job. The large warrior stood up and walked until he finally caught a scent. Crouching down, Firestone spotted a small brownish rodent. He moved forward slowly and then jumped to it, killing the little animal with one strong bite on the neck.

Cedarstorm noticed that her mate was avoiding her blue eyes every time she wanted to see him. However, she didn't say anything. This was not the time or the place. She smiled when he caught his own prey and then the blue-eyed feline searched for more prey to hunt.

She soon found a lizard laying over a rock. The brown tabby warrior hid in the snow and walked to the animal from behind until she was close enough. Calculating the distance, the she-cat leapt toward her objective but dangerous snarl made her stop in the middle. The gray and black coat of a raccoon emerged from the bushes and the she-cat couldn't help a small yelp of surprise. "Help!" She said loudly, unsheathing her claws ready to fight back. The animal must think that she was alone but it didn't know that she was being accompanied by two warriors and an apprentice. This wasn't going to be hard if her clanmates appeared in time.
