Hunting through the snow. (Closed)

Dewpaw stood just outside the camp entrance. Her silver fur absorbing sunlight as she surveyed the scents and appearance of it calmly. She didn't smell anything strange, no intruders so far, just the peaceful quiet of the water moving under the ice and the winter birds. She glanced up the trees to where the sparrows were safe. A couple chirped and flitted away, unconcerned with the riverclan cat beneath them. Her ears flattened to think that they weren't wrong.

Even if she was good at hunting, she couldn't climb a tree. She licked her jaws in anticipation as she waited for a couple more cats to join her before leaving on a hunting patrol. With new kits in the nursery, the clan needed even more fresh-kill than it had before.

The little she-cat tossed the snow of her black fur shaking her body when she left the warrior den. She looked at the camp searching for something to do and her amber eyes soon spotted Dewpaw waiting at the entrance of the camp. Tinytip trotted to him and smiled, friendly. "Hello, Dewpaw! Are you going on a patrol? I can make you some company if you need a warrior with you." She purred. The experienced warrior had been in the camp for too long fixing the dens and she was getting bored of it. This patrol could be a good opportunity to just refresh her mind.

Ravenflight padded over to Dewpaw. "Can I join you?" she asked quietly. With everything going on in RiverClan, the young warrior never missed an opportunity to escape the camp and practice her hunting skills.

The charcoal tom noticed that his mate left the den in the moment he opened his eyes. Still a bit worried about what happened in the river with that Thunderclan apprentice, Batfang followed her and he soon discovered that she was going to join a hunting patrol. ”I’ll come with you too if you don’t mind. I would hate to leave my mate’s side.” He mewed before nuzzling Tinytip lovingly.

"Hello Dewpaw! May I join your patrol? I would like to stretch my legs as it will do me good." Sandfrost said while giving her a smile. Her shoulder was still a bit injured but she was able to walk now. She needed this so she can recover quicker.

"Of course!" Dewpaw answered as she smiled at Tinytip. Her eyes brightened as a couple other clanmates joined them for a proper hunting patrol, though she felt a pang of nervousness. As the only apprentice in the group, she couldn't help but feel pressure to do her best. To show her clanmates that just because she hadn't become a warrior yet, didn't mean she lacked the skills. She nodded politely at each of them, then looked away shyly as Batfang nuzzled his mate.
"S-should we gather some moss for the nursery?" Her tail flicked towards Tinytip as she quietly teased them. "Let us know if we're going too fast Sandfrost. I don't want to make your injury worse." She offered as she gestured in the direction of the river. Since the ice was being broken to prevent Thunderclan, she had little doubt there would be some prey around seeking a drink. Her ears flicked at every bush and tree root they passed, listening for any scratching or fluttering of bird wings.

Tinytip almost jumped surprised when she felt her mate muzzle on her fur. After their fight in the river... things weren't exactly the same but she still loved him. The little she-cat returned his touch with a lick on his cheek before returning her attention to the patrol. She blushed and chuckled light-heartedly when the apprentice suggested her that she would have kits soon again. "It's always good to have extra moss in these times." She answered with a warm smile.

Quietly, she followed the patrol to the river always by Batfang's side. The she-cat didn't want him to get angry at her so she preferred to stick close to him. Sometimes, she looked from the corner of her eyes if Sandfrost was okay following them.

When the time to hunt came, the small tuxedo warrior started sniffing the air in search of any kind of land prey. She found a scent not so far from the river and, after telling Batfang that she was going on a hunt, the experienced warrior followed the smell, which led her to a dove that was drinking peacefully from a puddle without ice. Hiding her body, she approached the bird slowly but before she could even jump, a branch fell from a tree and scared her prey off.

(OOC: Tinytip is disabled because of her unnaturally small size, btw. That's why she failed. She's shorter than most of the apprentices.)

Ravenflight followed the patrol out of camp. Before long, she spotted a mouse scuffling between the roots of a tree. She stalked it carefully, doing her best not to disturb it, and pounced. She killed the mouse with a blow from her paw and scooped it up in her jaws. She found a place to leave it under a bush and bounded off in search of her next quarry.

Dewpaw was about to respond when she caught a trace of a vole scent. She lowered her muzzle and caught that it had moved towards a group of trees nearby. Slowly, she crept away from the main group. The rustle of leaves gave away that she was correct in her choice, the vole sticking it's head out at exactly the wrong time. She watched as it ran back into the bush and blinked away her frustration. Bad timing happened. She huffed and walked away from the bush, careful not to make too much noise in case she startled anything else.

IC: Sandfrost nodded and smiled. She bit back a retort that she didn't need to go so slow. She knew they were only trying to make her feel comfortable. Sandfrost looked over at Batfang and giggled and smirked to herself. Her former grumpy mentor the mate of the sweet Tinytip? She was starting to believe that the fish were going to jump out and fly away. She shook her head and followed behind them. She separated when the rest did and began to search for any critter she could catch. After a while of searching, Sandfrost crossed paths with a slippery frog near the river. She crouched down and never took her eyes from it. The warrior quickly pounced. The frog slipped into the water and Sandfrost groaned in frustration. She turned around only to gasp. A raccoon was rubbing its hands under the water and it turned to look at her, hearing her gasp. Her pelt bristled as she bared her teeth. The creature hissed and jumped at her. She yelped as the raccoon swiped at her and managed to scratch under her eyes. She shook her head and reared up on her hind legs. The warrior pummeled the raccoon with hits of her own before coming back down and backing away slightly. "Guys! I need assistance! A raccoon!" she called to the others before turning to face the opponent.

IC:Batfang followed Tinytip closely until she told him that she was going to hunt. Giving her one last lick on her cheek, the spotted tom started his own search for prey but always keeping an eye on Tinytip. He couldn’t let her get hurt like the last time...

And before he could even crouch, he heard the call of his former apprentice. With an angry hiss, the warrior ran toward her and the raccoon, noticing that the animal already wounded her. ”Stay away from her!” He hissed leaping between Sandfrost and the predator so he could claw its face fiercely. The blood painted his face but the tom didn’t care. He had to kill this before it could harm another one of his clanmates... or Tinytip.
