Dovepaw sat at the very edge of camp, her brown-and-cream fur billowing sideways in the wind. The tallgrass before her rustled temptingly, and everything in her body longed to run, to chase rabbits and vanish in the flowing breeze. However, she knew that she couldn't escape from camp without a warrior beside her. After all, Dovepaw was not one to break rules.

Part of her longed to run away, away from the fears and suspicions of camp and whatever "The Mist" was. Windclan boxed her into a closed space, where she could only be a warrior. She wanted more.

Turning around, the she-cat widened her half-closed blue eyes and scrambled to her feet. The least she could do, at times like these, was to forget about her troubles and focus on the moors. Prey. Her clan. The apprentice lifted her head toward the camp, asking shyly, "Does anyone want to come on patrol?"

Nectarleap padded out of the warrior's den, excited. Last night was the first time that he had slept in their, because his first night had been his vigil and all that. He felt like today he should do something special that warriors could do but apprentices couldn't, to celebrate his new name and roll. When he heard the apprentice's words, a sudden idea clicked in his brain. He could lead a patrol, and that would be the perfect warriors only thing to do today. Smiling, he padded up to the apprentice cheerfully.
"A patrol? That sounds great! I'm Nectarleap, who are you?" he offered. He doubted she would say anything saying that he couldn't come, so he didn't really bother asking first.

"Oh—yes!" Dovepaw stuttered, swiveling her head to meet the young tom's gaze. He seemed friendly enough. "I'm Dovepaw." Flicking her tail toward the moors, she added, "Should we go now?" She was hesitant to bring anyone else she didn't know on their small hunting trip—and anyway, there was a warrior here now. Maybe, though she remembered his ceremony only a sunrise ago, he could give her some tips on how to crouch correctly, or the right way to shake a rabbit.

Stoatpaw lifted her head and perked her ears once she heard Dovepaw's call for a patrol. The ginger-and-white apprentice rose from her sitting position and put on a friendly smile as she padded over to Dovepaw, the apprentice that Stoatpaw didn't know that well, and Nectarleap, the warrior who she met during her kithood.
"Do you mind if I tag along?" The apprentice asked the two, tilting her head to the side.

"Sure! We can go," Nectarleap replied to Dovepaw's question. She was just as awkward as he had been as a young apprentice, though more shy it seemed. He hoped that she would become more open and enthusiastic as her life progressed. Hearing Stoatpaw's mew, he turned to the other apprentice. He remembered meeting her a while ago, when she was a kit and he was a newly made apprentice.
"Of course you can come!" Nectarleap accepted warmly. It would be even more like leading a patrol when more than just two cats were in it. And he was still the only warrior, so he would still be leading it.
