Some Hunting, Some Bonding [Closed]

Raccoonfang was out hunting next to the lone stump. The brown and white warrior had been successful so far with some of her hunting. She had caught a rabbit and a bird. She was going to go for more but she was taking a break to let prey in the area calm down before she scared them all away.

The warrior lot out a small content sigh as the wind blew through her fur cooling her off from the sprinting she put in to chase down the rabbit she caught earlier. Her eyes closed as she enjoyed the breeze and shortly opened again looked out at the open territory. Her ears turned back behind her listening in as she heard someone coming closer. She figured it was a clan mate but she didn't know who.

Things had been...Hard for Mottleheart. After the death of Rockthorn and his slow healing, he had plenty of time to think on how to feel and how to act and while he was unwavering on his idea that emotions were dangerous things and he had to learn to think of all things logical...It also made reaching out to his Clanmates a bit harder. He found himself unsure of how his relationships now stood with them but even through the hard shell he was putting up, there was one thing he couldn't deny - he truly loved his daughter.

He had been walking the moor, his wounds finally fully healed enough for him to return to his normal duties and basking in the fresh air when he spotted a familiar brown and white pelt that was somewhat similar to his own. His ears perked, his eyes growing brighter as he picked up his pace as he headed toward Raccoonfang with a soft purr. The scent of prey greeted him as he drew close, noting a rabbit and bird at her paws. "Hunting going good?" he questioned warmly as he reached her, forgetting about his vow of logic in the simple presence of his daughter.

Once Raccoonfang realized the approaching cat was her father she relaxed considerably. She wasn't that close to anyone in the clan besides her adopted daughter and her father. She let out a small purr in response to his own and butted her head against him in affection for a small moment. "It's going somewhat well, I have caught two things so far." She responded looking down at the two pieces of prey at her feet.

"Would you like to join me? I'm sure I haven't scared everything off yet." She asked her father. He could probably use hunting as an excuse to take his mind off the recent events. She didn't blame him for the way he was acting lately.. Especially after what happened with Rockthorn. Honestly she hoped Ashstar hadn't been there, she would have loved to sink her fangs into Rockthorns throat, but for some reason Ashstar had to do it instead of her. She didn't exactly get why seeing how Ashstar wasn't related to her father, but at least Rockthorn was dead.

Mottleheart returned the loving headbutt without hesitation, only pausing afterwards as he recalled his vow he had made. He cleared his throat, pulling himself away as he straighten himself up but even under the ideal of logic, he couldn't deny how proud he as of Raccoonfang. She was a promising warrior - a skilled hunter and no doubt as loyal as he was. Looking at his daughter, he felt a pain of regret. He was certain that Ravenkit would have been a great warrior as well if she had survived past kithood...But fate sadly didn't work like that.

He shook off the sad thought as his daughter spoke up again, his eyes warm as he nodded his head. "I would love to join you," he purred as he took a small step forward, tasting the air for what prey he could. While walking around the moor to clear his head wasn't bad, Mottleheart couldn't deny that his favorite thing was hunting. Feeling the breeze in his fur as he darted across the moor in order to feed his Clanmates...A simple way to serve his Clan but no doubt very important.

Raccoonfang was glad that her father had joined her. It was good to see him doing something, especially with her. She could just take a little longer on her break and watch him at work. It had been a long time since she had seen him hunt. It had been a while since they hunted together. Or well.. Since she hunted and he watched because the last time was her assessment. She just hoped he could catch something seeing how it had been a while for him.

Mottleheart flickered his ear at the silence, partly relieved by it. While he liked the company of his Clanmates, there was a tiredness in having them all fret over him as he healed from his battle with Rockthorn. He...He didn't want to be treated any different even after everything that had happened. Having just time with his daughter...It was nice. He took in a deep breath, catching the scent of rabbits already as moved silently across the moor. His eyes narrowed as he spotted a flash of brown fur, the smell of a hare hitting him. His eyes narrowed as he dropped into a natural crouch, starting to pull himself forward toward it. Finally he came to a stop, judging the distance as he bunched up his muscles before bounding into a sprint, heading straight for the hare at top speed. He was on top of the hare within moments, his claws digging into it as he quickly brought its life to an end. With careful movements, he picked it up and started to head straight for Raccoonfang, his eyes glimmering after the rush of hunting.

While Mottleheart was heading back to Raccoonfang, another presence was also stalking towards them. This territory was a bit unfamiliar to the Mist, but nevertheless it slithered forward towards Mottleheart and Raccoonfang with a terrifying silence. The long tendrils of vapor crawled forward towards the Father-Daughter duo, while it eagerly devoured everything in its path. The breeze and warmth of the early Greenleaf day died as the freezing body of Mist fell upon Mottleheart and Raccoonfang, leaving only the sound of crackling ice and heavy breathing as the two WindClan cats became captive in the Mist's grasp for several long heartbeats.

When the Mist finally cleared after several icy moments, it continued to roll away in a slow, smooth roll before vanishing completely from sight. Only, instead of two WindClanners, there was simply one remaining- Raccoonfang was gone.

Mottleheart halted when a cold shiver ran down his spine, letting the rabbit he had caught drop as he gave a confused look around. For a second he was confused as he became aware of the mist that rolled toward them, tilting his head as he recognized it - it was what had saved WindClan from the fire. But...Why was it here? He opened his mouth to call for his daughter only for his breath to be stolen him as the air turned brittle - freezing, sucking the air from his lungs. This wasn't the gentle cold that had gently put out the flames but a terrifying icy grip that threaten to suck all of the warmth from his body. He heard the cracking of ice as it started to form around him, his body shivering as he tried to call out. "R-Raccoonfang?" his voice didn't make it far, the wall of mist swallowing up any sound...

And then it faded. The rabbit at his paws was there as Mottleheart gasped for fresh air, his lungs aching at the freezing cold that had swallowed him for just a heartbeats. But then he realized what was missing as the mist disappeared completely from view, the warmth of the sun sending shivers down his back. His voice was barely a whisper. "Raccoonfang?" His ears fell flat on his head as his breath caught in his throat, his head whipping around in every direction as he scoured the landscape for any sign of his daughter. "Raccoonfang?" his word were louder this time, desperation filtering into his voice as he realized that he couldn't even catch a hint of her scent - she was gone.

"N-No..." his chest started to heave as he stumbled backwards from the rabbit, crouching as he fought back the tears. Wh-Where was his daughter. Where was...Sh-She was all that he had left after Ravenkit died. He couldn't...He...He grew ridge, his eyes becoming pinpoints. The mist. StarClan had sent the mist to save them from the fire...Hadn't they? Then why... He spun, darting across the moor toward the WindClan camp - his rabbit all but forgotten as determination flickered in his eyes. H-He needed answers.
