Furzepaw's assessment ((CLOSED))

Sitting near the camp entrance, Smokepelt waited for his son, Furzepaw. The deputy had woken with the sun, wanting to get a head start on the day. I just hope Furzepaw wakes up before I have to drag his fluffy rump out of his nest, the tom thought to himself, softly chuckling. Today, he would assess the apprentice on his skills and soon enough, Furzepaw would be a warrior of WindClan. Just the thought of his kits becoming warriors made the tom bubble with excitement.

Furzepaw slowly woke, finding the chilly morning peaceful. The apprentice sat up, glancing to the side for a brief moment, wasn't he to do something on this fine morning? Just then he remembered, his assessment! With a sudden new wave of excitement Furzepaw jumped up and carefully weaved around his sleeping clan mates as he kept lookout for his father.

There, by the entrance. The tom slowed down as he neared the deputy, "hello, father!" He chimed, a certain calmness to his tone despite the excitement that still clung to him.

Greeting his son with a nod, Smokepelt stood up and stretched out his front legs, letting out a yawn. "Ready for your assessment?" the tom asked with a smile, knowing the apprentice was more than ready for the task ahead. Flicking his tail towards the entrance, the deputy started towards it and soon, they were off.

Following a path through the tall grass that cats had made over many moons of walking in the same place, he decided they would start off with some patrolling and finish with hunting. Making their way to the ThunderClan border, the grey and white tom stopped when he thought that they were close enough and arrived just in time to watch as a row of monsters raced by. Disgusting, he thought to himself and wrinkled his nose.

"So, what do you know about this place and the clan on the other side?" he asked Furzepaw, his tail flicking back and forth, hoping that they could get away from this place as soon as possible.

Furzepaw delightfully followed his father across the moor, at times slowing down on accident just to take in the scenery.

Then, his peace was cut. They arrived at the thunderpath. He flicked an ear at his father's question, crinkling his nose as a monster rolled by. He had only seen them a few times. "This is the thunderpath," he mewed simply, glancing up at his mentor. "The clan on the other side is ShadowClan." Furzepaw had heard how Smokepelt's father and his grandfather had gotten tackled by one of the shiny beasts that seemed to roll by with such ease. He never got to meet him, but he had heard about him once or twice, mostly from Smokepelt.

Nodding his head in agreement, Smokepelt was glad that Furzepaw was able to tell him about the path. "Good job," the soft voiced tom meowed with a smile. "Let's move on now," the tom added and turned around. Knowing that Furzepaw would catch up, the warrior headed away from the stinky path and onto the moor, heading towards the heart of the territory.

After a few moments of walking through the crunchy snow, the two cats made it to their destination, a small hill that jutted out from the mostly level moorland earth. Sitting down, Smokepelt turned to his son. "Alright, you're going to do some hunting now. I want you to catch two rabbits. I'll be observing you, but don't worry about me," the tom meowed and waited for the apprentice to get started.

Furzepaw was happy to hear that he pleased Smokepelt with the correct answer, and in a swift moment, they were moving again. He followed his father across the open moor until they finally stopped, the older apprentice turned to face his father.

After listening to the deputy explain what he wanted to see from hunting, Furzepaw delivered a curt nod. He paused, thinking for a moment, where could he find the best prey? He settled on a spot to try and headed off, waving his big fluffy tail in farewell as he trotted across the open expanse of their snow covered territory.

At first there weren't any traces of prey, but Furzepaw refused to give up. Thanks to his persistent in searching for a scent, he was given one, it was even a rabbit. The grey tom followed the trail quietly and soon enough, he laid eyes upon a rabbit, not too far off, nibbling on some dead grass that had poked through the snow. He lowered his body and began to stalk forward. Once furzepaw was close enough, he lunged forward, claws outstretched and ready to dig into the flesh of his prey. The tom felt his claws hit the rabbit and before it could react he moved his muzzle forward, delivering a killing bite to it's neck.

Waiting a few moments after Furzepaw disappeared to start hunting, Smokepelt followed the tom's scent trail. Making sure to stay quiet, the deputy watched the apprentice stalk his prey and soon enough, he'd made the kill. Good job, he wanted to say, but shut his mouth, not wanting to ruin the hunt.

Alright, just one more. Furzepaw thought as he finished burying his prey, the tom looked up, scanned the area for anything, sights, sounds, scents, then headed out again on his search for more prey.

After a few minutes of walking and stopped to scent the air, something caught his attention. Furzepaw actually saw the rabbit before scenting it and immediately dropped into a crouch, his fluffy underbelly brushing against the crisp snow as he moved forward. Now way would he let this rabbit get away, it was his ticket for success.

He had gotten pretty close by now, pausing, he made sure there was nothing around him to scare off the creature before pouncing, again. He felt his claws graze the side of the rabbit's fur, his eyes went wide, then before the creature could get away, he slammed his free paw down on top of it, digging his claws into its warm body to keep it from getting away. Within the next heartbeat, he reached over and killed it, a swift bite to the neck finished it.It was a sloppy kill, but a kill in general, he did it!

Watching as his son caught another piece of prey, Smokepelt trotted out from where he'd been hiding, a smile on his muzzle as he looked to the dead rabbit that was at the apprentice's paws. "Good job!" he purred. "I'd say today was a success and you're ready to become a warrior. How about we head back to camp so I can report to Ashstar," the grey and white tom meowed and turned towards camp. So far, all of his kits were going down the right path towards Warriorhood and he loved watching them grow up.

Furzepaw perked his ears at the sound of his father's voice, he turned around, lifting his paw away from the rabbit, smiling at Smokepelt's praise. The apprentice began to nod, "thanks! Heading back sounds good," he glanced down at the rabbit he just killed, he would have to go back and get the other one.

The white-chested tom leaned over to pick up his second kill, and lifted it from the ground, carrying it in his jaws as he followed Smokepelt back to camp.
