Smokey Snakes [Closed]

Smokestripe came to a stop as Snakepaw spoke up, turning to look at the apprentice as he tried to sneak up a toad only to scare it off by accidentally treading on some dead leaves. He padded over to the apprentice with a soft shake of his head. "Maybe you will do better luck when the weather gets warmer," he meowed though the frog he had in his jaws. "I feel like all of the prey is on edge this leaf-bare." He didn't blame Snakepaw for trying to go for another prey - he was sure the apprentice just wanted to prove himself as a good hunter. But it seemed like this season had been hard for many cats to hunt, he could only hope that the favor would be on them when Newleaf came around.

Snakepaw nodded. He followed Smokestripe to the direction of the SkyClan border.

It didn't take long until the land changed beneath their paws. The ground grew more solid, the trees starting to dot the landscape even more as they morphed into thin, tall trees. Finally, the pine tree that towered over the border came into view causing Smokestripe to come to a stop. He gazed up at it, always amazed at the height of it. Had anybody ever climbed to the top? If anybody had done so, how did they ever climb down? Smokestripe felt much more at home with his paws in the mud then in the trees like SkyClan seemed to prefer. He turned his gaze to Snakepaw, sharply pointing his tail toward the border in a signal to go that way. "Let's split up. Check the border and renew the scent. We will meet back here when we are both done." His order was simple, and he quickly turned and padded away. His mouth was open to keep a track of where SkyClan had marked their border to make sure that he didn't cross it, marking the border as he went.

Snakepaw nodded. He went the way Smokestripe pointed. He sniffed around to find the SkyClan markers. Soon, there was a strong scent, it smelled like pines and birds and cat. 'This must be what SkyClan smells like, and these have to be the markers.' he thought. He started to mark about a few kit steps away from the SkyClan markers. He brushed his cheek against the trees to put his scent on them. He also sharpened his claws on one, putting scent and visual marks on the tree, which felt nice to him. He marked every tree and rock that was in his little imaginary line. He then walked back to the Highpine. 'Why do SkyClan cats enjoy the trees so much? It looks so dangerous and scary up there.' he wondered.

It didn't take long for Smokestripe to do his side of the border and was already waiting for Snakepaw when the apprentice came padding back up to him. He smiled softly as he dipped his head to the apprentice, happy with the success of this patrol had gone...Even if Snakepaw had failed to catch those few prey but that was something that could be easily worked on in a later date - mostly with how hard it seemed to be to catch prey this Leaf-bare. "Let's head back to the camp," he purred as the apprentice padded up to him. "Hopefully with me helping with your training, you will be a warrior in no time." He spun and headed back to the camp, hoping that Snakepaw would truly gain his warrior name soon - he felt the tom had been an apprentice long enough.

Snakepaw started to head back to the camp when Smokestripe finished. He hoped he could be a warrior soon, sleep in the warriors den, maybe train an apprentice of his own. It sounded nice.
