When the white tom instructed her to be quiet, Redpaw had crouched low to the ground, staying very still and silent so as not to alert Cloudpaw's prey to their presence. She watched with sympathetic frustration as his near-catch escaped his claws. The young apprentice made no reply in words to his angry spat but blinked warmly at him. Seeing that it was now her turn to try her luck at finding and capturing prey, she parted her jaws and scented the air.

When the white tom instructed her to be quiet, Redpaw had crouched low to the ground, staying very still and silent so as not to alert Cloudpaw's prey to their presence. She watched with sympathetic frustration as his near-catch escaped his claws. The young apprentice made no reply in words to his angry spat but blinked warmly at him. Seeing that it was now her turn to try her luck at finding and capturing prey, she parted her jaws and scented the air.

A soft, strained screeching sound broke her concentration and she looked around frantically to see where it had come from. The smell hit her at the same time she located it with her eyes. Perched on the old oak stump just behind the two apprentices sat a curious-looking little black-and-white bird with black feathers poking out strangely from its head like two long cat ears. If Redpaw wasn't already crouched unmoving, she would have frozen in shock. How in Silverpelt? Aren't these things supposed to have flown away? This straggler has poor luck... Her body turned slowly and quietly so that she was positioned to take better aim at the bird. The unsuspecting creature trained its attention on the stump, pecking the surface for what little scraps of its own food source it could find. Launching herself at her preoccupied target, Redpaw moved forward on silent paws with lightning speed. She was up on the stump with jaws clenched around her catch before the bird could know what hit it. It struggled in her mouth, sending a few feathers floating to the ground, before Redpaw could finish crushing it with a forceful bite. The she-cat turned to face Cloudpaw, pulling her lips back in an odd-looking grin with the lapwing hanging from her mouth. She leapt down from the stump, still clutching her kill.

OoC: Did that seriously just happen? A bird, and she caught it, really... Lol.

"Great job." Cloudpaw purred, impressed with Redpaw's speed and skill. Padding up the she-cat, he gave the Lapwing a sniff; it was rather scrawny due to the fact that it had lagged behind from its migration, but prey is prey and no cat would complain as long as it filled their belly. "Let's get it back to camp," He mewed, flicking his eyes up to the sky; surprised to see how much time had passed, "As long as other cats have eaten, you might get to try your first taste of Lapwing." Quickly turning around and beginning to pad back towards camp, Cloudpaw looked back at Redpaw, "You might wanna hurry before something else that's bigger and hungrier comes along and tries to fight you for it." He mewed, a teasing tone overtaking his voice as the two headed back to camp.
