Clouds in The Red Sky [Closed]

The weather had been unforgiving for the past few days; whenever it wasn't pouring down icy flurries of snow, then the sky would be a dark mass of storm clouds that ravaged the moor with fearsome gales that were strong enough to sweep the heaviest warrior off their paws. The cats of Windclan had remained confined to camp for most of these days, leaving only to forage for what little prey remained above-ground, but when Cloudpaw awoke this morning, the sky had been as clear and smooth as a puddle. To his relief, most of the snow had melted away in the pitiful sunlight, and the moor was only disturbed by the slightest breeze. Now he was settled down beside the Lone Stump's ragged, brittle form, enjoying the weak sunlight and the faintest taste of new growth, hinting that New-Leaf couldn't be long off. Cloudpaw titled his head slightly, tasting the still air for any prey-scent; he had agreed to help Redpaw get a jump on her training, although he had to admit that perhaps it was only an excuse to spend more time with the small, russet-colored she-cat. "It'll be a good day to practice hunting; this momentary thaw will definitely draw out some prey." He reflected absently, staring at the rolling hills that Windclan proudly claimed as their territory, oblivious to everything behind him.

Redpaw sat up from where she had slept the night and gave her coat a brisk yet thorough washing, combing her tongue across her sleep-ruffled ginger fur until it shone in the sunlight and laid neatly across her small frame. Her eyes didn't need to scan the camp long before she spotted her denmate, Cloudpaw. The sight of her friend's white pelt delighted the young she-cat, as today was the day they had agreed upon to head out of camp together and do some training. Maybe we'll help fill up that fresh-kill pile, she thought excitedly. The she-cat's paws carried her silently forward until she stopped a few tail-lengths behind the muscular tom. Her tail flicked back and forth in anticipation as she waited for Cloudpaw to notice her. Dark blue eyes flashed mischievously; a better idea had popped into the apprentice's brain. As quietly as she could Redpaw swiftly dropped into a crouch. She rocked back and forth a little on her haunches while she sized up her unsuspecting denmate. The she-cat sprang from the ground, paws sheathed of course, and aimed right for Cloudpaw's back.

Cloudpaw let out an 'oof' whenever Redpaw leaped on to him, and he nearly tumbled forward and down the rather steep slope, but thankfully he managed to regain his balance at the last second. A prick of anxiety had seized his chest whenever Redpaw jumped on him, and for several heartbeats he believed that for some reason Riverclan had decided to invade their territory once more, but as soon as he caught wind of the russet-furred apprentice's scent, the fear melted back down into its original simmer. The momentary panic had sent the ever-hovering cloud above him into overdrive, but it was nothing that a few practiced breaths couldn't calm. Easily bucking the smaller cat off of his back by rearing up onto his hind legs and twisting, Cloudpaw quickly freed himself from Redpaw.

"In a real battle make sure to use your claws," He rumbled in a half purr, feeling slightly embarrassed at how easily the apprentice had caught him off-guard, "Or else they'll drop down and crush you." He warned a bit more seriously, although his whiskers still twitched. Bushing out his short fur, Cloudpaw gave himself a quick shake to rid himself from any debris that his fur could of possibly picked up during the momentarily scrap. "Are you ready to start?" He questioned, the pupils within his blue and green eyes slightly dilated as he peered at the younger cat.

With a satisfied gleam in her eyes, Redpaw watched Cloudpaw's short white coat fluff out as he shook it free of any evidence of their tussle. But, the ease with which Redpaw's heftier denmate thwarted her attack and his self-evident advice caused her tail to thrash in a brief moment of annoyance, well duh in a real fight I'd have my claws out. As quickly as the she-cat's pride had been hurt, she recovered. Her tone was amiable as she mewed in response, "Yes, I'm ready. What are we going to start with?" Anticipation for the day's adventures once again filled the forefront of the eager apprentice's mind. Her paws antsily kneaded the ground while she waited to hear Cloudpaw's plans for the day.

"How about a little battle training brush up? You obviously need it." Cloudpaw teased after a moment of thinking, his eyes sparking with amusement. Beckoning the russet-furred she-cat closer, he began to wrack his brain for the best starting place; he knew that Redpaw had received the most basic training, so perhaps starting from the beginning would give her the reminder she needed.
"I'll teach you all I know, but we'll start with the most basic moves." He mewed, whiskers twitching.


ooc) Okay so when using the battle system, you can find a list of all the Battle Moves (a description of the move, what rank you need to be to use it, and how much damage it inflicts Here. I've noticed that you already keep your HP/SP stats in your signature, which is good but I can still cover that if you need me too! Here's the list of SP stats.
During battle, post like this:

Cloudpaw padded up in front of Redpaw, before raising up his front paw and gently batting the young she-cat's head, making sure to keep his claws sheathed and not putting any actual force in the blow. "Go ahead and try," He mewed, "Don't be afraid to put force into it."

Cloudpaw used Front Paw Blow, dealing -4 in Damage, Costing -5 in Stamina.

ooc) Right now due to the fact that both Redpaw and Cloudpaw are both apprentices, they can only use the designated apprentice and kit moves, but as they move up rank wise, they will be able to use more and more moves and inflict more damage! In battle, if your HP or SP gets to zero, you can no longer fight.

The ginger she-cat's tail lashed left and right a few times and her eyes narrowed in playful protest at Cloudpaw's good-natured gibe. When the tomcat's sheathed paw bonked her head to the side, the favor was readily returned. She could tell he was holding back much of his strength, so Redpaw did the same. Her right front paw struck the side of his head with a mild amount of force.

OoC: Like that? A few other questions for you: Did you use the dice thing? And when is that used? I've seen that sometimes. How/when does the HP and SP replenish?

"Perfect!" Cloudpaw purred, pleased to know that the young she-cat was adapt at battle moves and was a quick learner. "Now that you seem to be getting the hang of things, let's try something a bit more difficult! I'll show you how to do Leap and Hold, but make sure you keep your claws sheathed; I don't wanna lose my fur." He spoke playfully, crouching down and circling Redpaw. Narrowing his eyes, he sprang onto the smaller apprentice's back, taking extra care to not put too much weight on Redpaw.

ooc) Okay so this is where dice come into play. As an apprentice, the only move that involves dice is Leap-and-Hold. To use the dice, you can get to them by clicking New Post, or when you Preview a post. To use the dice, you click the drop down menu and click 'Effect Dice' and make sure the number for the dice roll is set to '1'.

After you post, Mistpelt (Owner of the site) will immediately post what number you rolled, and the number you roll dictates how long your opponent is stunned for. If you roll a 1, 2, or 3 then your opponent is stunned for One Turn. If you roll a 4, 5, or 6, then your opponent is stunned for Two Turns. You can see immediately what you rolled and then edit your post to tell your opponent how many turns they are stunned for!

As for HP/SP replenishment; if a Medicine Cat is involved in a battle, they can heal you during the chaos. If not, then your HP usually just replenishes itself after a battle, and sometimes there are healing topics centered around a Clan having their wounds treated.

Redpaw beamed at her friend's praise before bracing herself for the next lesson. Umph! He's heavy! The ginger she-cat inwardly groaned, legs wobbling for just a heartbeat as she steadied herself. Taking note of how well-balanced Cloudpaw had poised himself on her back, Redpaw gave her body a vigorous shake to loosen his grip and free her back of the older apprentice. She stepped back and sized the white-and-grey future-warrior up for the second time that day and leapt. When her sheathed paws made contact with his short fur, she tried to focus on perfecting her ability to stay balanced on his back.

Cloudpaw grunted as Redpaw leaped on to his back once more, but he easily shook her off before she could squash him or accidentally tear out any of his fur. Slipping free of the she-cat, he spun around and dropped into a crouch, a mischievous smirk curling its way onto his face. "Better! But see if you can figure out how to get around this!" He hissed playfully before charging forward again and sliding underneath the smaller cat's belly before hooking his paws around her shoulders and pummeling her belly softly with his hind paws. "Think quickly- when you're fighting a Riverclan cat, they'll have the advantage of weight and superior strength so you'll have to use your speed!" He instructed, continuing to gently batter her belly with his paws.

ooc) I'm not counting stun moves as of right now cause they'd have to be inflicting some serious damage on each other to actually stun. But yes, you did good! Scroll to the bottom of the Battle Move list and check out the special Clan Moves; those are really good and come in handy! Whirlwind Rush can only be used on Windclan territory, but Swift Strike can be used anywhere. Try using one of those.

Despite her best efforts to stay on Cloudpaw's back, the she-cat was displanted again. "Those fat, fish-eating featherbrains wouldn't stand a chance against us!" Redpaw snarled in a boastful manner as she struggled free from Cloudpaw's grip. Catching her breath, she winced at the thought of what sort of damage a cat's unsheathed claws could have done had they caught her in that position. Not wanting to be outdone, Redpaw took several more swift paw steps backwards and hopped to the side until she was facing Cloudpaw's flank. She didn't want to bash into his face, so she aimed for his side as she bounded forward with as much strength and speed as she could muster.

Redpaw used Whirlwind Rush, dealing -7 in Damage, Costing -15 in Stamina.

OoC: I noticed from your other post and didn't think to put my own note about stun not counting. Sorry about that!

"Now you've got it." Cloudpaw grunted, spinning away from Redpaw, his flank stinging slightly from her well-aimed blows; although he was too proud of her to really admit it. Backing away several pawsteps, he dropped back down into a crouch as he gazed at the ruddy she-cat; as much as he liked Redpaw, he wasn't about to be out done by her during her first training session! It had been quite some time since he had done an activity like this, one that truly got his blood pumping and his mind racing, finally free of it's confining clouds. "Shouldn't of let me get away!" He called, amusement dripping in his voice.  Springing forward, Cloudpaw rushed at Redpaw, using his greater weight to his advantage as he promptly tackled her; doing his best to not hit her too hard. Pinning the younger she-cat down, he grinned slightly, his whiskers twitching. "I think it's safe to say I won this round. How about some hunting?" He mewed, hopping off the apprentice.

Cloudpaw used Run and Tackle, Dealing -6 in Damage, -10 in Stamina.

Redpaw stood to her paws and shook her pelt out, long ginger fur flinging away any grit she had accumulated in her coat from their play-fighting. The she-cat's throat rumbled in a contented purr, "That was a lot of fun, and you're a great teacher, Cloudpaw! We've probably both worked up an appetite, and hungry bellies make for better hunters. Where shall we look for prey first?"

Cloudpaw purred as well; quickly shaking himself after watching Redpaw do the same. "We can start around here, there's always usually some hares and rabbits who stick by the Lone Stump during Leaf-Bare." He mewed, opening his jaws to taste the air for any prey scent. "Stay quiet." He warned, flicking his tail as he dropped down into a smooth crouch. There was a flash of movement caught his gaze, and he stealthily moved forward.

There was a white tail bobbing in the distance-rabbit! Cloudpaw intended to creep up on it, but as he was stalking forward, his paw crushed a twig with a loud snap. The rabbit's head shot up and the creature quickly scurried away, with Cloudpaw hard on its heels- but to no avail; the rabbit made it to the safety of its warren before he could catch it. Spitting with anger, Cloudpaw turned to look at Redpaw with apologetic eyes. "Like that, but hopefully you can actually catch something." He grumbled.


ooc) Okay with the hunting system, you use the dice as well. You basically do the exact same thing, (reach it by clicking New Post or Preview Post), but when you go to the the drop down menu for the dice, you click hunting dice instead.

You will roll the dice twice; the first time will be to determine what kind of prey you encounter, the second will determine if you catch it or not. As apprentices, Cloudpaw and Redpaw have a fairly low chance of actually catching anything, (1, 2, 3 are the numbers that mean you successfully caught something, but as you move up the ranks you are more and more likely to successfully catch prey!)

You can find a list of prey in territory sections by clicking 'New Topic', and it will show you what number relates to a certain prey. For example At the Lone Stump, 1, 2, 3, 4= equals a hare. So basically, you roll the dice twice; one will show you what prey you encounter and one will show you if you catch it.  You can also encounter dangerous animals such as foxes, eagles, badgers and so on! After reading the dice, you can go back and edit your post to say if you caught anything or not.
