Scenting the air once more (SIKE), she smelled frog. Crouching when she saw it, she leaped onto its slimy skin, claws unsheathed, and missed. AGAIN

Maybe today just wasn't a very good day for Blazepaw, he tried to reassure himself as he watched a frog slip away from the apprentice's paws. AGAIN.

The frog slipped, from her paws after she lunged on it. The end. She didn't catch the piece of prey.

Maybe today just wasn't a very good day for Blazepaw, he tried to reassure himself as he watched a frog slip away from the apprentice's paws. AGAIN.

Please, Starclan, let me catch at least one more frog! Thought Blazepaw, as she wandered around quietly, sniffing out yet another frog. She crouched down as she spotted the somehow plump frog beside a tree. I've got you this time! She thought quietly, as she pounced right on the center of the frog, biting into its plump, fat neck, killing it quickly.

Glad to see that she finally caught something, Mudfoot followed the apprentice with a new sense of hope for the assessment.

Blazepaw crouched down at a frog nearby not far from where she buried the last, and leaped upon it, missing it by no more than a kits step.

Well, at least she was almost done. Mudfoot followed her, staying as quiet as possible even though the crunching snow was becoming a bit of an annoyance. Watching from behind a thick trunk of a pine tree, the warrior watched as his apprentice unsuccessfully tried to catch a frog. Although she missed this one, he knew that she could do it and had faith in the young she-cat. The patrol was almost over, or so he hoped.

One more, Blazepaw, you can do this! Repetitively, she whispered to herself, confident that she would catch the next piece of prey. She picked up all sorts of scents, all but the frog. She sniffed around furiously but couldn't get anything. She could smell lizard most of all, but that was not the prey she was assigned. Thoughts filled her brain, such as, what if mudfoot reports me as a bad hunter! When suddenly, through all of her terrible thoughts, she could make out the faint scent of a frog. Dropping her jaw, she sniffed the air again, following the scent cautiously. It grew smaller and smaller, and she frayed to all directions, but it was gone. Her chance was gone.
