Once Blazepaw started hunting, Mudfoot followed her, staying as quiet as possible even though the crunching snow was a hassle. Watching from behind a thick trunk of a pine tree, the warrior watched as his apprentice unsuccessfully tried to catch a frog. Although she missed this one, he knew that she could do it and had faith in the young she-cat.

Scenting another frog, Blazepaw crouched down to see another one not far from the last. Being careful not to let the snow crunch as she took small steps, her tail bristled against the snow, making a small noise. Stopping in her tracks, she looked around the area to make sure no other prey heard her. Continuing to walk closer, she pounced on the small creature, killing it with a hard blow to the neck. Burying the frog where she stood, she scented the air again.

Continuing to watch the apprentice hunt for prey, he was glad that she was able to catch something. He wanted to congratulate her but kept quiet, not wanting to ruin the hunt. Following the apprentice, he took mental notes on her form and technique of scenting and finding prey which was actually up to par.

Yet again scenting the air, a frog was all she could smell. Lucky me! Yet again dropping to a low crouch when she saw the frog, she prayed to Starclan for another successful catch. Leaping on the frog, she snagged its back with her claw, bringing it closer so that she could kill it. Biting into its soft neck, she ended its life quickly. Thank Star-clan! Turning back to bury it with the other, she spotted Mudfoot watching her, but she ignored him as to not get in trouble.

Good, only two more pieces of prey to catch. Following Blazepaw, the tom waited for her to start scenting the air for prey again and wondered if she would have another successful catch.

Blazepaw scented the air once more and caught the scent of a lizard. Following the scent, she remembered what Mudfoot had said. No Blazepaw! Your catching frogs, not lizards! Scenting the air, the faintest frog scent was depicted from a bit back, but she followed it anyway, leading her, of course, to the frog. Crouching down at once, she realized she was in the wrong position and that the frog could easily scent her because of the wind blowing her scent towards it. Remembering that Mudfoot was watching her, her mind raced. Quickly trying to do something in return for her huge mistake, she leaped from where she stood, a couple tail-lengths away, landing square on her feet right behind the frog. Frazzled, she gave chase to the frog, until it leaped into a small hole in the ground. No matter how far she pushed her paw through, she couldn't find the frog and turned around empty- pawed.

Maybe she'd catch something next time. Following the apprentice, he watched as the frog leaped away.

Blazepaw followed the next scent she could find, it conveniently being a frog //shot. She crouched down, leaping ruthlessly at the frog and getting quite frustrated. She landed face-first into the ground, rolling over into the moss and failing completely. She hopped up quickly and scented the air for mudfoot to see if he was watching.

Maybe today just wasn't a very good day for Blazepaw, he tried to reassure himself as he watched a frog slip away from the apprentice's paws once more.
