The Lion that climbed the Maple tree

Maplepaw sat down a few foxlengths away from the fresh kill pile and waited for someone to come over and talk to her, she had no training as her mentor was to weak to do anything with her.

Lionpaw was sitting outside of the apprentice den, licking her paw before she drew it over her head. Her eyes were half close, soaking in the little light that filtered down from the gaps in the branches above. Al thought, with the cold weather those gaps were getting bigger and bigger every day. But...Despite enjoying the peace and quiet of the camp, she was bored. At least Bramblefrost had gotten around to showing her how to fight after she lost to that SkyClan apprentice although she also had been chewed out by him. Not that it was her fault...She sighed as she stood up, deciding to grab something to eat but paused when she saw one of her Denmates sitting next to the pile. The way Maplepaw sat told Lionpaw that she was waiting for something and curiosity caught the better of her as she changed her course to walk up to her fellow apprentice. "Hello Maplepaw, you waiting for something?" she asked with a slight tilt of her head.

Lionpaw blinked at Maplepaw's response, flickering an eye as she frowned slightly. She could understand Maplepaw's wish to do something - it had taken a while for Bramblefrost to train her and that was really only after she had lost that fight...For a few seconds, she thought over her options before she shrugged. "I suppose I could teach you a move or two. I mean, I'm no mentor but I could at least show you something I guess."

Lionpaw smiled at the younger apprentice's joy, even thought she felt a little nervous about showing Maplepaw some moves. What if she showed Maplepaw a move wrong or something? She wasn't a proper warrior, she wasn't even a mentor but...Well, she supposed it would help her own training as well. So, she turned as she flickered her tail at Maplepaw, dipping her head in the direction of apprentice den. "Come on, we can do it over near the apprentice den. Don't want to be tramping any of the fresh-kill, do we?"

Lionpaw came to a stop next to the apprentice den, judging this area to be big enough for this training. As Maplepaw came up behind her, she cast a worry look at younger apprentice. She hoped that Maplepaw's mentor wouldn't get angry at her for this and was trying to judge what she could show Maplepaw. While knowing how to fight was important, she wanted to leave most of the proper training to Pinewhisker when he was strong enough go train her again. "So, show me what you know first of all," Lionpaw said with a slight nod of her head.

The only thing that Maplepaw knew how to do was a hunters crouch, so she dropped down into a lw crouch, careful not to let her tail touch the ground. She fixed her eyes onto a beetle lying before her, and crept a little closer. She pounce on top of the beetle, landing straight on top of it and crushing its frail body with a single bite. "Hows that?" She asked lionpaw.

Lionpaw was taken aback almost when Maplepaw went into a hunters couch, picking on a poor beetle as she quickly pounced on it and killed it. Her tail flickered, pausing as she decided on what to say. "That's a good hunter's couch but...It won't be that useful in combat," she admitted as she moved over to where Maplepaw had killed the beetle. "Most battles won't be started by sneaking around and treating your enemy like prey - it will be face to face and after a fight is started, you won't have time to go into a couch...But..." Her eyes glimmered as she got an idea of where to start on this make-shift training lesson. "There is a move that could be a bit helpful I suppose. Using that pounce of yours, you can jump onto the back of your enemy. Up there, you can deal damage to them while they can't hit you...Well, until they can knock you off but a good grip will keep that from happening for a while and allowing you to do more damage!"

"Uh...I suppose its called Leap-And-Hold," Lionpaw said, racking her brain for ways to explain the movies. It was one way to know how to perform the moves, it was another to explain it. "I-I mean the name itself is self-explanation. You attack your enemy and pin them to the ground as you scratch at them...But if you aren't big enough to pin them, you just hang on for as long as you can and deal what damage you can from up there before they knock you off."

"Its both," Lionpaw said, attempting to sooth the younger apprentice as she fretted over which one it was. "For you...At least at the current moment, it would be getting a good grip. When you get bigger and are fighting a cat smaller or at least weaker then you then you pin them. Either way, you just want to stay out of reach of their claws as you deal the damage instead."
