Training a purple flower [closed]

Cedarfur sat in the center of camp and gave a yawn. Waking up this early wasn't really his thing, but it had to be done. Heatherpaw was doing a great job when it came to training, and he was determined to make sure that she became a warrior as soon as possible. Arching his back and giving it a stretch, he heard a crack and a shock of pain shot up his spine. That can't be good, he thought to himself, squinting and shuffling his paws. Now that he thought about it, he was getting pretty old, and the day where he'd become an Elder wasn't too far away.

Heatherpaw, unlike her mentor, immensely enjoyed waking up at the crack of dawn. The sun wasn't blaring down on the moors, instead lighting them up with a soft glow, and the air had a chilly nip to it which she enjoyed. The timid she-cat appreciated the beauty of it. She was half surprised to find Cedarfur out here at this early hour. The tom was older than most, she knew that, as well as his distaste for mornings - and he knew her love for them. Padding up to her mentor, she dipped her head slightly in greeting, quickly giving herself a lick. I don't see you getting up this early usually," she laughed. "Will we be training?"

Looking up from his paws to Heatherpaw, he gave a smile. "Don't think you'll ever be seeing me up this early again," he replied sarcastically. "The only reason I'm up this early is because Smokepelt wanted mentors to do an early morning training session with their apprentices to get you guys used to early mornings, which I think is a pawful of crowfood," the tom meowed letting out a yawn. Standing up, he gave his back legs a stretch and started heading towards the camp entrance. "And yep. Let's get going before I fall asleep again."

Heatherpaw followed Cedarfur, smiling at his complaining. "Just your luck that you got stuck with the apprentice that loves mornings, then," she laughed. "What'll we be doing today?"

Cedarfur gave a chuckle at his apprentice's comment and the two of them made their way into WindClan's territory. "Well, you seem to know a lot and you've been doing great when we've gone on patrols and training, so what do you say we test your skills and I'll assess you?" the tall tom meowed with a smile. He knew she was ready for her assessment, and couldn't wait to see her become a warrior.

Heatherpaw nodded. She knew she could do this, she knew how to hunt, she knew the scents, she knew how to fight - what could go wrong? Cedarfur had taught her well. "Alright then. What should I do?"

"Well, you can start off by leading this patrol. Today, you decide where we go and what we do," he replied. Letting apprentice's take charge of patrols was a great way to teach, since they were learning as they went.

Heatherpaw nodded, and took the lead. "I think we should go along near the gorge. We'll have to be careful, though." She hadn't been down near the gorge in a while.

Cedarfur gave a simple nod of agreement and followed his apprentice, glad to know that she was cautious around the gorge. The tom's mood was a bit shaken from the fact that he needed to wake up early, but he had a feeling that this would be a good day.

Stepping lightly through the moors, Heatherpaw lead her mentor. She paused as a rabbit caught her gaze. The silver tabby crouched down and sprung swiftly after the rabbit, catching and finishing it off before it could escape. She carried it in her jaws back to Cedarfur.

"Nice catch," Cedarfur commented with a smile, glad that Heatherpaw was able to catch prey that fast. A good hunter was always a valued member of the clan, and he was proud of his apprentice.

Heatherpaw nodded happily and smiled. Not after long, the pair reached the gorge, deep, wide and unforgiving. The apprentice could see across it, and she knew that this was a border marking. She kept her distance from the edge, treading carefully and sniffing the air. "Over there, that's RiverClan, right. I'd say the gorge makes for quite an effective barrier."

Giving a nod, he looked from the gorge to the territory across. "You're right. RiverClan cats may be able to swim, but they'e crowfood if they try swimming in this water," he chuckled, remembering how the fish-eating cats always smelt weird when at gatherings. To him, all the clans smelt a little odd, but RiverClan had by far the most cringe worthy scent. "So where to now? Oh wise and wonderful patrol leader," the tom joked, holding his usual goofy smile.

Heatherpaw smiled. "I guess we could try hunting a little along here..." She shrugged.

Cedarfur gave a nod and followed his apprentice, letting her take charge of finding some good prey to hunt.
