New Beginnings Open [Birth Topic]

Pepper followed Dreamleaf, nervously of course. A hiss of pain came as the entered the barn, she had never felt anything like this before. The she-cat knew that she'd be kitting, what else could it be? With uncertainty, she looked at Scorchfrost, as a new mother, she had no idea how a kitting worked. She have to follow Dreamleaf's instructions closely.

Scorchfrost didn't leave Pepper's side the whole time. He didn't care what his clanmates might think, he was going to stay with her until it was over. He was scared out of his wits, but he didn't let it show. It was best not to frighten the she-cat when she was in so much pain and nervousness already.

Gold padded in. "Dreamleaf, didn't you need some herbs for something? I have plenty- Pepper!! Oh my little sister!!" The cinnamon tabby meowed padding over to her sister as quick as she could. Luckily she had a huge bundle of herbs with her, since she was bringing some to Dreamleaf for her clan, and since she had so much in her den back at home. Getting out the appropriate herbs for a kitting she cat. She nudged her sister the herbs and told her to eat them. "Dreamleaf the rest are for you." She meowed tying the bundle back up and passing it over to her former mentor.

Pepper felt overwhelming joy as she laid her eyes on her 'sister', quickly eating the herbs with little objection, she was uses to the herbs by now, sorting them and living surrounded by them had built up her tolerance. With that, the she-cat grit her teeth and looked at Dreamleaf for guidance.

Gold also looked at Dreamleaf. "Dreamleaf this is the one thing I never got to try out, how do I do this? I know you've done a lot of these." the swirled tabby meowed looking up to her former mentor.

Dreamless looked at Gold and smiled a thanks.
"Well first, you give the queen a poppy seed and chervil. Afterwards... Lay your paw on their belly. Usually you can feel for when the kit is ready. When you feel the ripple, the she-cat must push... Pepper, please push when I say to....Push," Dreamlesf hissed.

Scorchfrost watched anxiously, paws fidgeting by Pepper's head as he licked her ear, trying to comfort her just a bit. He hoped she wasn't in too much pain or terror. It would kill him if this didn't go smoothly.

Pepper nodded and instinctively bit down on the stick place near her and pushed, uncomfortably aware that she was an intruder in her own home, not to mention that she had no experience with kits.. Soon after that first push, the first kit (Morningkit) had been born into the world.

The little kit let out a mewl a few heartbeats after it took it's first breath. She could already feel the heat of her mother's fur, and her tiny little paws began kneading her mother's belly as the soon-to-be-named Morningkit began to put warm milk into her body.

Scorchfrost's heart fluttered. A tiny, beautiful kit... his kit. His daughter. She was gorgeous, and he looked at Pepper with a look that said it all. He began licking his kit warm as he had seen medicine cats do before, a billion names in his head. Bloomkit, Softkit... what about Morningkit? He made a mental note to bring it up to Pepper when the ordeal was over.

Pepper purred at the small kit by her side, watching her mate warm their kit. With another wave of pain, the next was born (Stormkit), the soon to be named Coldkit, then soon after, Creamkit and Mistykit. She rested her head in the hay with tired eyes set on the small bundles, mainly on the smallest of the litter Mistykit. Her eyes closed and a sigh escaped the she-cat.

The dark gray tom mewled, attempting to locate his mother's belly. In a combination of crawling and scooting, the soon to be named Stormkit began to suckle.

The cream tabby colored tom and found his way to his mothers belly and began to suckle with his siblings.

The soon to be Coldkit mewled and struggled to reach her mother's belly.

Scorchfrost was glad the worst of it was over. He moved to the other side and mirrored Pepper's position, rasping his tongue over the kits. He was in love. He had never felt such love and compassion in all his life. This litter was his saving grace. Whatever happened, he had this feeling to hold with him. He wondered what Thinstripe would tell him if she lived to see this. He wondered it she could even see anything. He didn't have any belief in the supernatural aspects of StarClan or the Dark Forest, but it was a comfort to pretend great leaders of the past watched over ThunderClan. They didn't even have that luxury now.

But he had his family, his mate and his kits. He'd be okay. He looked into Pepper's eyes. "You did fantastic," he hummed, "Have you been thinking about names?"
