Training with your father isn't always boring [Training topic for Ket]

Blizzardpaw looked at her paws for a moment, trying to think what else they should do before they could call it a day…hmmm…well, she already helped herself, time to help her clan instead! “Hunting!” She was already thinking in all the fresh kill she would bring back to the clan, usual fantasies of a new apprentice, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t willing to try and turn them into reality.

Jayflight nodded "Ok, we'll start with hunt. Now here's just a tip; try not to let your belly touch the ground, if it does you wont catch it too well. And don't move your paw to matter what, ok? Sounds good?" he mewed beginning to move to another area where it was full of trees and prey, though it wasn't completely trees. There was enough for most of all prey to live, and not just the same old mice.

Blizzardpaw repeated the words of Jayflight over and over in her head, trying to not forget them, she would need those tips to not screw up later, whether it was just training or in a hunting patrol. Well, at least now she knew why she never had managed to catch her parents or friends by surprise back when she was a kit.

She was so focused on these thoughts that she accidentally bumped into her dad and mentor when he decided to stop “Sorry” She immediately rushed to her side, looking around and moving her ears in an attempt to hear everything that was going on around her.

Jayflight turned "It's fine" he mewed "Good job for choosing to listen first" he praised.

Blizzardpaw smiled at Jayflight, maybe this was going to be one of her strong points? Hunting? Her untrained ears still had some problems to catch and identify each noise, but she trusted that those issues would soon be part of the past, she just needed to train a bit more with her dad.

Jayflight's ears pricked, he heard some prey in the bushes. It was hard to make out though, he unsheathed his claws just in case.

Blizzardpaw noticed her father’s actions and unsheathed her claws as well, her ears moving quickly in an attempt to catch the sound of the prey that she guessed her father had already heard, focusing as much as possible. Her eyes started to scan the place carefully, looking around for even the faintest movement. She, however, was careful to stay dead quiet to not scare the prey away, her nose acting out of pure raw instinct in attempts to aid her other senses to locate the prey, unluckily for her the only prey she had ever smelled before was either mice from the barn or already dead prey from the fresh-kill pile, so she wasn’t really sure of what she was looking for.

Jayflight thought she needed some help now "Make sure to look around slowly, try to compare the scent to one you have scented before" he murmured.

Blizzardpaw nodded and kept smelling the air, trying to remember all the smells from the fresh-kill pile. It took her a couple of seconds to find a faint familiar scent. It wasn’t mouse though…uh…squirrel? Yeah, apparently it was a squirrel! She didn’t really liked the furry things, the fur always getting stuck between her teeth when she tried to eat one, but prey was prey. She crouched, trying to follow Jayflight’s earlier tips, and started to get closer to where she thought the source of the scent was located.

Jayflight's mouth watered, he leaned in closer. He nodded "Now you want to corner it" he mewed in a murmur.

Corner it…corner it, corner it… She started to look around for a good place to corner a squirrel without getting to close just yet, she needed to know it before getting close enough, since she was sure that her white fur would be easily visible between the green grass where they were hiding. She looked at some rocks, hoping that the squirrel wouldn’t be able to climb them, and started to get closer diagonally, so just in case that she missed, it would run straight to her mentor’s paws instead of getting away.

Jayflight got ready, he kept his head down lock on the prey.

Blizzardpaw got close to the squirrel, which soon raised its head, alert. She immediately thought that it had spotted her, or that it would spot her because of her white pelt, so instead of staying calm and trying to go on like this to have the prey almost secured, she panicked and jumped towards the squirrel before time, hitting the rock instead of the squirrel, which just as she planned took what appeared to be the safest route away from her only to find out too late that Jayflight was blocking that escape route.

Jayflight pinned down the creature with his claw, he bit the back of the squirrel and padded over to Blizzardpaw "I saw your plan there, good idea" he commented "Would you like to try again but without me catching it at the end?" he asked.

The apprentice sighed, well, at least the prey didn’t managed to escape in the end “Sure…sorry, I just panicked, it won’t happen again, I promise!” She started to hear, smell and look around the place again, hoping that her little failed attempt to catch the squirrel didn’t scared off the remaining prey of the area.
