Birth is Good

Fennelcloud had once again been admitted into the nursery. It had been a while since she had been here, but it felt... natural. It was weird not having the other typical queens around, but it was still homey nonetheless. Her belly big, she simply lay there content until there was pain... and a lot of it. "Dawnpaw! I need you!" she cried.

Dawnpaw awoke from her slumber at the cry of her name. Another kitting, she expected that Fennelcloud would have kits soon, and already had a bundle of herbs ready. Drowsily she gathered the herbs, and moved to the nursery. One she got there, she placed the herbs down, and took half the stack and shoved it over to the queen. "Eat these.. They help with the pain." The apprentice said with a yawn.

The queen ate them quickly, knowing just how bad the pain could get. "Thank you, Dawnpaw," she meowed before the pain shot through her again. "They're coming soon..."

Dawnpaw pressed a single paw to the queen's stomach. She didn't feel very many, it seemed to be only one. "I think there is only one, Fennelheart. Alright push when I tell you to push." The apprentice was really tired, but there wasn't much she could do about it at the moment. When she felt it, she told the queen, "Push!"

The queen followed instruction, pushing as hard as she could. She was surprised that there weren't more, but that was okay. Soon enough, the little kit was out and Fennelcloud couldn't be happier. She quickly began licking the small kit, cleaning it up with a smile. "He's.. Hes so cute!" she purred.

Dnawpaw sat back satisfied another kitting went well. She was getting the hang of this. Also she was kind of glad that Fennelcloud had only one kit. The apprentice stood an nudged the second thing of herbs towards the queen. "Here eat these as well." Fennelcloud probably already knew what the herbs did so there wasn't a need for an explanation.

The unnamed Brackenkit mewled, suckling closer to the warm body of Fennelcloud.

Letting out a sigh of relief, the queen ate the herbs quickly, getting over the horrible taste within seconds. She was used to it by now. Looking at Dawnpaw, she gave a nod of respect. "Thank you, Dawnpaw. You helped me a lot," she mewed as she looked down at her kit. After a few moments of simply watching the little kit, she purred. "I think his name will be Brackenkit."
