A new leader

Flames hopped up onto his- soon to be Meadow's- perch, calling his clan together. Its Meadow's turn to lead this Clan...

Dream Peircer came from the den to watch whatever was to happwn.

Orbit nodded as she walked out of her den. She new what this was about.

Burn walked out, followed by Blizzard.

Moonlight stood there in silence.

Storm dipped his head in respect to his father, Thank you for serving us for so many moons.

Meadow froze with amazement. She had no idea what to say - that was all there was to it. One second she was a deputy, the next she was a leader. Her legs trembled, and her mind swirled dizzyingly. She swayed on her paws, staring in shock at Flames.

Pulling herself together, she, as calmly as she could, dipped her head to Flames, her remarkable friend, leader, and guide. He was a true part of me.... I owe him so much. Meadow hadn't realized until then how much Flames meant to her. He had welcomed her to BoneClan, named her Meadow, helped her through her row with Storm, calmed her anxiety about raising her kits, made her his deputy, and guided her through her second-in-command responsibilities. Every single reason she was in his debt piled on top of each other, over and over, until she was sure she would never be able to repay him.

Then it came to her. I will follow in his pawsteps as leader, and rule BoneClan as fairly, calmly, rationally, and lovingly as him. Flames deserves that, and his retirement. Those are two things I have granted him, and a few more things will repay and thank him for his long moons of fantastic leadership and unwavering faith. She leaped onto Flame's - no, it was hers now - perch, and met ever BoneClan cat's gaze steadily. She gathered her authority into her stare, and looked at each of her cats individually.

"My cats, thank you so much for welcoming me as your new leader. I never deserved any of this, but look at me now, standing atop the leader's perch and watching over my Clan. I never expected any of this, but I vow that my shock will not overwhelm my pride, authority, and strength. All of my life has led me to this day, and I will live my life over again in the service of my Clan - you. You are my Clan, my cats, my stronghold. If you had not welcomed me to BoneClan, I would not be standing in front of you today.

Now, as you must know, there is no longer a BoneClan deputy, and in addition to this sacred leader ceremony, I would like to add yet another." Meadow gazed down at Storm, her mate and the cat that had always loved her. "Storm, please step forward." She paused, letting her words sink into Storm's consciousness, wanting him to realize how this would affect his whole life, as well as fulfill his longing and quiet ambition. This meant a lot to BoneClan, and Storm needed to understand how much he was taking on and how much he was giving away. If he figured his loss would be more than his gain, Meadow would, without hesitation, allow and encourage him to turn down the idea of becoming deputy. But she wanted him to be at her side at all times, and his strength and intelligence would be deeply respected by her and all of BoneClan. I hope he accepts this post, she thought, half hoping if she willed him to accept he would.
