Fishing in the Dark

Shimmerpaw immediately stopped when she heard a thump. She turned around "Shallowpaw?" She asked, looking at him on the ground. She laughed. "What, did you fall asleep?" She joked with him. She bent down and licked his cheek.

He stiffened at the touch, then relaxed and rolled onto his belly and looked up at Shimmerpaw.

Midnightsky looked out around the river, he was bored alright. He tapped the water quietly. A small pile of fish in the corner.

Shimmerpaw helped Shallowpaw up. "Come on, I think I smell someone over there," she said as she pointed to the river with her tail. She started heading that way, when she saw who it was, Midnightsky. Shimmerpaw smiled and padded over and sat down next to him, hoping that Shallowpaw would follow her. "Hello," she said politely.

Midnightsky didn't notice the two approach and the two apprentices spooked him, making him jump into the river. "Hey!"

Shimmerpaw laughed. "You know, you didn't have to jump into the water!" After a little bit of more laughing, she looked over at Shallowpaw, signaling to him that she wanted him to ask Midnightsky about them "fishing".

Shallowpaw looked around. 'Where'd Shimmerpaw go?' he thought. Sniffing the air, he found her scent trail. When he arrived at the place she was at, he saw Midnightsky and Shallowpaw sitting by the river.

"Uhhhh... Aren't you two suppose to be hunting? Or do you want to try your paw out on fishing?" He said and climbed out the water.

"I guess we could try fishing. What do you think, Shimmerpaw?" he replied.

Shimmerpaw nodded her head. "Yah, let's do that!"

"First you need to sit still, look at the fish. Do you see them? Aim above their heads and scoop them out. Try to hit them in the air towards land, farther away from the water."

Shallowpaw nodded. Positioning himself at the water's edge and making sure the fish didn't see his shadow, he swiped at the first fish he saw. Sadly, he just barely missed.

"Keep trying. Its always hard the first time."

Shallowpaw nodded. He swiped at another fish, and it flopped out onto the bank. Shallowpaw bit the flopping fish, and dropped it at Shimmerpaw's paws.

Shimmerpaw blushed at Shallowpaw's kindness. "Aw, thanks Shallowpaw! Let me try!" Shimmerpaw sat in the same position as Shallowpaw was, and waited. After a little, a fish slowly swam her way. She got ready and pictured how she was going to catch the fish in her mind. Then, she suddenly scooped her paw in and threw out a fish. It flopped on the ground before she ran over and killed it, then she padded over to Shallowpaw and dropped the fish at his feet.
