Snowface's mourning

Spottedfeather walked into camp, carrying Snowface's body, along with Shadowclans deputy Thrushstripe. She padded into the middle of camp before setting the body down. She waited for the cats to gather to mourn, before she did so. She turned to Thrushstripe and mewed to him. "Thank you, if you would like, I could give you a mouse from our freshkill pile, to make up for your journey all the way here, and then on the way back."

Spottedflight had been taking a brief nap in the open when Shadowclan scent seeped into her nostrils. She was up in a flash, hackles raised and teeth bared, only to realize it was one cat. And Spottedfeather was with him. The warrior approached with caution until she recognized the cat the deputy was carrying. "Snowface?! Spottedfeather, what happened?" she mewed, dashing forward in hope that her former apprentice was still alive, even though she already knew the worst had happened.

Thrushstripe shook his head as the Thunderclan deputy offered fresh kill. A mouse did sound nice, but there was no time for eating when there was a vigil to be held for the dead. As soon as Spottedflight dashed out of the den, the Shadowclan deputy dipped his head out of respect for the warrior. When she asked what had happened, Thrushstripe felt it necessary for him to explain. If this warrior was going to get mad, it was better that she were mad at him. After all, he wasn't even in her clan... the bad side to that was that he was practically risking his life to be in this camp. It wasn't a smart move, but he felt obligated. "You must have been very close to her," he said to Spottedflight. "I am deeply sorry for your loss. You see, there was a bit of a fight between me and... Snowface, we had ended up on Shadowclan's side of the border. When she tried to cross the Thunderpath back to Thunderclan side, a monster had hit her." The tom didn't even look up as not to trouble the Thunderclan warrior anymore. Not only that, but he was glad that he told the story the way he did. Yes, it was a lie, but it was best for her not to know that Snowface blatantly ran into Shadowclan and he did not want his own apprentice Redpaw to be the focus of anger if it were to come down to it. Thrushstripe preferred it to be all on him.

Spottedfeather looked up to Thrushstripe, knowing he had blantaly lied. When she went across, none of his scent was on their side, and he made no mention of Redpaw. But she ignored it, knowing he probably meant well. "I'm sorry Spottedflight, when I got there, she was already in too bad of shape. And it was too late for a medicine cat to be brought to her." she looked to the ground, feeling as if she had let the warrior down, even her whole clan. There was nothing she could do, and Snowface had paid the price.

Adderpaw padded outside. "What's all the comm-...Snowface?!" He trailed off, eyes wide as he rushed over. He glanced up at the Shadowclan cat, though did nothing. He seemed almost as sad as Spottedfeather, who wasn't bothered by his presence. Perhaps he had simply helped bring her here or something. Whatever had happened, now was not the time to be blaming each other. He sat down, going quiet as a sort of moment of silence for the she-cat before the vigil.

Spottedflight blinked tears from her eyes as the warriors explained what happened. Somewhere, she thought she should blame the Shadowclan cat, but at the moment it didn't really register. "She...she'll be missed," the she-cat mewed , dipping her head to show she didn't want to be bothered anymore. She would process the information later.
