The lost will find the lost

Ashpaw creeped out of the makeshift camp his clan had made; in a lonely search for someone that was already lost to him. He trudged along the swollen river, stepping past the remains of fish, plants, and dens. It hurt his heart to see what had happened to his home; just from a freak storm. Four cats had died, one blinded, another had lost his true sight- Starclan. Two more cats had passed on afterwards. He now looked for one of the two missing bodies.. Nightbird.

The young cat followed the rushing water towards what would be his last hope of finding his lost mother. He knew that either way this went, if he came back with her lifeless form or not, it would not change how things now were. But a cat can dream of impossible things if he wishes. The Gorge roared as loud as ever, if not louder from the sudden water swell. His bright, sad eyes scanned the smooth walls for a lump of black fur. Just when he was about to give up, he saw it. A black-brown body was hanging limply from a tree clinging stubbornly to the wall on the other side.

Even though he knew she was dead and gone, a flicker of hope sparked. He crossed a barkless tree trunk to the other side slowly, and he did not care that he was trespassing. Maybe Windclan would understand that his mother's body was down there.. Anyways, he gazed down at the tree roots, and contemplated how he would reach her black form without dying like she did.
Reaching down, he could almost reach the roots. Her scent was gone.. that saddened him greatly. He didn't dare jump, for he knew that he would never get back up with a much heavier cat than himself being carried. "Do not worry, mother, you will be buried at home, not our borders."His mind was running so fast, he wouldn't have noticed if someone crept up on him just then.
