Hazelpaw's Border Patrol

As soon as the sun began to rise, Cinderfur quickly got out of her den and shook out her fur. This was her first apprentice! She was very excited, yet she was nervous at the same time. Yes she was taught by Froststar, but what if she messed up? What if she told Hazelpaw the wrong thing? That was another thing. Her apprentice was Hazelpaw. Thankfully the warrior had known the apprentice for quite some time now so it wasn't all that bad, but still. She did not want to mess up.

"Hazelpaw! It's time for your training!" she mewed as she stuck her head into the apprentices' den, hoping to see Hazelpaw just as excited as she was.

Hazelpaw woke up and groggily looked around. She hadn't gotten used to the apprentice scedule of waking up early. She was woken up by the sound of her name. Who called her? She saw Cinderfur's head pop in the den and realized today she was going to train! She quickly licked her her clean and went outside. "Hi! What are we doing today?"

"Today we are going on a border patrol!" Cinderfur mewed as she was already heading towards the entrance of the camp. "This way you will know your way around and be able to check the territory when you need to without getting lost."

Hazelpaw followed Cinderfur. "Ok! Where will we go?" she asked. She hoped she didn't get lost. That would be bad.

"First we will stop by the river and make our way around to the gorge. Those are really our only borders we have to continuously keep under watch, but we will make a quick round to the twoleg nest on the other side. Just to make sure there isn't any trouble for some reason," she responded, gracefully making her way through the small amount of water that separated the camp from the rest of the territory. It was nice to have such a natural barrier that was so simple to cross... at least for the Riverclan cats. Soon, she began towards the river, hoping that Hazelpaw was going to follow.

Hazelpaw followed Cinderfur. She felt the cold water and shivered slightly.

As they padded through the territory, Cinderfur constantly checked behind to her to make sure that her apprentice was following. What good would it do for a border patrol if the young warrior lost Hazelpaw? She wouldn't know where to go or really how to get back. This is where the young warrior's own nervousness was setting in. She tried not to let it get to her, but it was slowing creeping back up. So to hide it, she simply tried to give instructions. "Make sure you pay close attention as we go to the river. If you don't know how to get there, what sense is there in trying a border patrol?" she asked light-heartedly, hoping to keep her voice calm and even a little whimsical.

Hazelpaw nodded silently before realizing that Cinderfur's back was turned and couldn't see her nod. "Ok!" she said. She focused her attention on the path, trying to remember where they were going so she could find her way back. She heard the sound of water and realized that they were getting close to the river.

When they finally arrived, Cinderfur took in a deep breath and quickly relaxed. Sure, they were supposed to stay on high alert for anything, especially Thunderclan cats, but there didn't seem to be any scents around the area other than Riverclan's own. "Here we are! We have made it to the river!" She purred as she slowly began padding up and down the border checking everywhere she could and carefully marking specific spots. It was when she got close to the Sunningrocks did she stop and take a look. They had won over the rocks just a few moons ago and it was only now that she could see why Thunderclan and Riverclan fought over it. The Sunningrocks were the greatest. "Hazelpaw, if you look over there just across the river you will be able to see Sunningrocks which we can proudly call Riverclan's!"
