Fawnpaw's Battle Training

Shadeclaw waited in the center of the clearing. This clearing was slightly more solid and dry than most of the territory, making it one of the ideal training spots for apprentices doing battle training, yet not too dry so they still can get used to fighting in the mud that was Shadowclan territory. Today was Fawnpaw's battle training, and as her mentor Shadeclaw was supposed to make sure she was prepared for any future battles.

Heading towards Shadeclaw, Fawnpaw was curious about why they were heading to this clearing. It felt different compared to the rest of the territory, though a bit more comfortable. Perhaps they were doing battle training? This was the only thing she had to do left before becoming a warrior, which she had been hoping to become since she was a kit. It was a dream for her to become ShadowClan's best warrior and to put her name down in history. "Hey Shadeclaw, battle training today?"

"Yeah. Hope you're ready! You had your assessment a little early, so if you do well with this, you'll become a Warrior in no time." The tom purred, getting to his paws. He got into a battle position, glaring past Fawnpaw at a small tree. "The sapling there will be our training-target. First, we'll start off with something easy. Watch closely." He leaped up to the tree, using the tree's own shadow to his advantage since it was bigger than him. Lashing out a paw, he left a good, deep mark on its bark before preparing for the tree's 'attack'. He stood up, looking at Fawnpaw. "That was Front Paw Strike. Try it out!"

Watching the ShadowClan warrior carefully, Fawnpaw eyed him before looking at the tree. A long deep mark left in the bark. Positioning herself in a battle stance, the brown she-cat unsheathed her claws. Dashing at the tree, Fawnpaw lashed one of her paws before going back to her starting position. Checking if she left a mark, the she-cat's eyes were shining at the long deep cut in the bark. "Was that right?"

"Great job!" Shadeclaw purred, proud of her progress. "Next up we'll try the Belly Rake. You'll have to try it on me, claws sheathed since you can't go under a tree." He meowed, standing as tall as he could. "I obviously can't demonstrate on you, since you're smaller than me, but I can explain how to do it on a lager Warrior like myself. Just go under them, twist, and rake your claws hard on their underbellies. Then come out from under them from the other end so they have to turn around to face you." He explained. "But before we try it, let me show you how you would do it on a cat smaller than you..." Suddenly the tom shot forward, barreling his apprentice over and pinning her to the ground. He pummeled her stomach softly with sheath claws, as not to hurt her, before jumping off, ready for her attack.
He stood tall once again, eyes sparkling. "Both of these moves are Belly-Rake, despite seeming so different. It mostly depends on size." With that, he nodded to show she could try it on him now.

Listening to Shadeclaw closely, Fawnpaw didn't notice that he had unexpectly shot himself forward at her, pinning her down to the ground before slicing at her stomach with his sheathed claws. As soon as he got off, Fawnpaw nodded before getting ready to try it herself. Dashing at her mentor, she ran under his stomach before twisting, raking her sheathed claws as hard as she could - without hurting him - before getting out from the other side, getting back in battle stance, but with a sort of small moment of unbalance.

Shadeclaw huffed, turning to face her. "Good, but you're going to need to keep your balance. Your tail isn't just for showing off, you know." He joked, smiling. He got into a battle stance once more. "But enough of that; let's move on for now with the next move: Leap-and-Hold! It's probably one of the hardest moves to master at your age, since you have to have good balance, speed, and grip." The tabby leaped towards the tree, digging his back claws into the bark, slightly splayed out for a better grip. One front paw was hooked in as well, but not as firmly, and every time he slashed with one front paw, the other quickly grasped the bark the same way to keep himself from falling off. Suddenly, he imitated being shaken off, and jumped away quickly by sheathing his claws.
Shadeclaw shook out his pelt, looking back at Fawnpaw. "Try to stay on as long as you can, but if you start losing your grip, get off quickly. Deal as much damage as possible!" There were several gashes on the bark from his claws, though they were a bit shallower than Front Paw Strike's hit. However, in battle, Leap-and-Hold had a good chance of more damage with the multiple hits.
