le hunting patrol

Sagestar yawned and stretched in his den, seeing the last bit of sunlight fade away from the entrance. He blinked hard a few times to try and wake himself up. He hadn't gotten this much sleep in moons. With Feathersong retiring to the nursery, and then unfortunately to the elders den, he hadn't anyone to help fill in the position of deputy; something that made him more and more uncomfortable by each day, not only because it was breaking the warrior code, but because he had to manage the entire clan on his own. Thankfully, the three apprentices in the clan he had to have a direct paw in training were now all warriors who could hunt and patrol themselves. There were some bits of free time that he had had now, though, but damn - a break would be nice.

Maybe he should take a bit out of camp, do something simple. Hunting maybe? He wasn't fond of the idea of a crowd, though. The leader shook himself fully awake and stepped outside, looking to see if there were anyone who'd might want to join him.

Gingerheart had already been up and staring at the small pile of prey. she was lying down comfortably in the clearing of the camp, all of her focus on what was left, several ideas of hunting running through her head, but she didn't want to go alone. it was just too weird not to have anyone with her, especially since Feathersong wasn't doing so well. The you warrior had hoped the deputy would have gotten better by now and would have been the strong young she-cat she once knew, but times had changed. With a heavy sigh, her attention turned when she heard the soft footsteps of Sagestar as he walked out of his den. Jumping to her feet, she padded over to him. "Greetings, Sagestar!" she mewed happily. "Do you need any help with anything?" Gingerheart was willing to do whatever she could for the poor leader. He seemed rather tired lately and she felt she needed to step up in her duties.

Sagestar honestly hadn't noticed the bright colored she-cat until she had approached him. The tom flicked his ears until the mild surprise had worn off before putting on a soft smile, "Greetings." He said back. Huh, kinda strange. What a formal way to say hello. "Maybe. I was thinking about going out and hunting for a bit. Would you want to join me?" It was a simple offer. He didn't really need anyone going, but the company would be nice, and he figured the camp could handle itself for a little bit.

Wait, he wanted her to come with him on a hunting patrol? She felt honored that he would ask her and not one of the other older, more experienced warriors. "Oh, of course!" she mewed happily before looking back at the fresh kill pile. "It does look like we need some more fresh kill," she said before turning back to her leader to wait on his cue to head out of camp.

The tom nodded to her and got back on all four paws, giving one, quick final stretch. He was near certain the hunting would be slow at first, but get better as the moon rose. There was actually an eager look on his face he had to hide. Growing up, he had always enjoyed hunting much more than anything else.
His emerald eyes flickered in Gingerheart's direction. "Mhm." He agreed with the small sound, "Let's go before the others wake up." The tabby meowed and bounded out of camp. Not that he had anything against ShadowClan's three newest warriors, but - like it was said before... cx Threes a crowd.

The young warrior quickly pelted after him, keeping up rather easily with her long strides. "So where are we going first?" she asked, hoping that he would choose the first hunting place this time. She didn't want to try to make herself look like a fool too much today

Sagestar stayed quiet for a few moments, keeping an eye out for possible danger, and honestly being very undecisive in his choice on themattet. "Let's try near the Burnt Sycamore." He suggested behind him. It was an easy place to start.

"Alright," She mewed, happy that he actually made the decision. Although there really wasn't a bad spot to choose for hunting other than the Carrionplace and the Thunderpath, she still didn't want to choose an area that didn't have a whole lot of prey mainly because she didn't want to embarrass herself which reflects on the clan and if she lets them down then she lets Sagestar down and if she lets him down then--. She stopped suddenly and took a deep breath. She couldn't understand what she was so nervous about but this was oddly out of character. Maybe she would be more comfortable when they actually started hunting, but for now, she just needed to calm down and keep her cool. "That sounds like a good place to start."

The tom nodded and picked up the pace a little bit, sprinting faster through the territory; he was sure that the she-cat would have been able to keep up. He did noticed that Gingerheart was being a little strange in nature, but he figured it was nothing to concern himself about. He actually didn't know all that much about her, surprisingly, unlike everyone else in the clan. There was that once that trouble on the border with ThunderClan, but other than that she had constantly been around Feathersong; which was as it should have been... Still...

He slowed down to a stop and motioned for Gingerclaw to be a bit quieter, flicking his tail. His green-gaze traveled around the clearing and he took in the several scents around until he spotted the closest bit of prey. A lizard. The tom looked at it with determination, hoping to make it the first catch of the night - and to make a good impression as well. I mean, with how totally awesome he was, it'd be pretty awkward if he missed it - right? D: /shot The tabby spread out his limbs and crept forward, waiting until the right moment to pounce and try to catch the creature in his claws.

He captured the creature and ended it's life with a swift bite to the neck. The tom picked up the creature and walked back to Gingerheart, "Did you eat before we left?" He asked.

Gingerheart blinked as Sagestar approached her with the lizard. She hadn't exactly thought about it until he had said something. It was just amazing to watch him hunt. He did it so perfectly while she probably still looked like a fool. Ah, she was a pretty good hi tee. Feathersong said so herself! No, she was a great hunter! She could do what he did! As she got lost in her thoughts, she blinked again to snap her back to the situation. "Oh, no I haven't eaten," she replied.

Sagestar nodded, expecting as much, and bending his head over and setting it at her feet. "Here, eat this." He meowed and taking a step back. It wasn't the largest, and as he was near certain, not the most filling piece of prey - but it'd do. It was just the first catch of the night and hopefully there'd be plenty more. The tom gave a small, reassuring smile. "It'll help keep your strength up."

Gingerheart paused as he offered the lizard to her. Did she want to accept it or let him keep ot and show him that she can get her own? Well, he did offer it to her. She didn't have to ask for it. Besides, she would have the rest of the night to show off what Feathersomg had taughther. Better to be less hungry now than miss more prey later. With a respectful nod and a soft "thank you," she quickly ate the fresh kill and buried what remained. With new-found energy, she looked at Sagestar and smiled. "Alright! I'm ready to go now!" she mewed as she took the lead in trying to catch the scent of more prey. It was time she showed him what she could do.

The tom nodded back as she took the piece of prey and kept a look-out of sorts as she ate, taking in the fresh scents all around and letting out a sad shiver when he felt the leaf-bare winds coming already. At least leaf-fall was still being somewhat kind to them. "Alright," He meowed as he saw her spring on her feet, "Maybe we should start - ..." His voice trailed off as he realized rather lately that she had already took off further into the territory, looking rather eager. Sagestar's ears perked up and watched with interest. Well, okay then~. xD

Shortly after she had taken off into the territory, Gingerheart quickly came across another scent trail. It was really strange considering leaf-bare was coming, but this young warrior wasn't complaining! If she found something, she was going to take what she was going to get! Dropping into a low crouch, she followed the trail until a rather fat toad fell into her sights. Preparing herself by moving silently down wind, she prepared her feet for the jump, leaping as soon as she deemed ready. Almost instantly, she landed on the toad before it could even notice her, killing it with a quick bite before picking it up and trotting back to Sagestar to show off that she really could do just as well as him. "I did it, Sagestar!" she said through a mouthful of toad. Pride swelled inside of her as she found the tom again, showing just how well Feathersong had taught her.
