Pondering On Things

The sun had reached its peak in the sky. Although being a kit was fun it was getting boring. Apprentices and warriors walking around camp, Mintkit felt as if she was in the way all the time. She sat on a flat boulder in the rays of sun. She supposed that the time she had to relax would only come two times in her life. As a kit and as an elder if she made it that far. Stretching out she clawed the cold hard stone.

Returning from a patrol, Duststorm entered the camp, two mice clamped tightly in his jaw. He strode across the clearing and gently placed the fresh-kill on the small pile before looking up to see a kit stretched out near the nursery. It struck him as odd that she would be outside without her mother nearby, but he said nothing.

Looking around with her eyes slightly closed she caught sight of the clan deputy returning to camp. She stayed in her place as she didn't have anything to be doing and no one to talk to. The kit was quiet as she watched the deputy walked across camp. As he got closer to her stone she spoke up, "Successful hunt, Duststorm?."

Startled by the fact that Mintkit was talking to him, Duststorm turned to the kit with his green eyes wide.
"Why yes, thank you," he replied. It also mildly surprised him that a kit was interested in the affairs of the grown members of camp, but he felt it was good for her to start at a young age.

With a slight nod she stood stretched out once more. Her arched in the air, she flatten it and stepped off the rock. Strolling across camp she sat at the fresh-kill pile and looked over the small heep of food. Picking out a small field mouse and took it back to her stone. Laying down again she gnawed on the mouse.

Sleeping on the high-rock was the large dark shape of the leader, other for his legs that had the white-stripes running down them. Hearing the talking, the leader opened up one of his warm yellow eyes, and fixed them on the warrior and kit. Getting to his white paws, he leaped from the rock and bounded over to the small group, dipping his head to Duststorm and Mintkit. "Hello," Stormstar meowed with a small purr.

Wildheart, who was coming from his den, was mumbling about how he needed some Dock leaves while heading toward Stormstar and the others unknowingly because he was deep in thought. He bumped into Stormstar and that had gotten him out of his thoughts. "Oh! I'm sorry I didn't see you there! You know how my mind wanders sometimes. Speaking of which, how was your hunt, Duststorm?" He said.

Getting a bit full she laid the prey off to the side and closed her large green eyes. She heard the voice of the clan leader. She hopped up to a sitting position and dipped her head at his arrival. Soon afterwards Wildheart bumped into Stormstar. Another dip occur towards the medicine cat.

The Windclan deputy walked into camp, returning from a patrol. She went over and stood by Stormstar. "What's going on?" She asked.

Automatically, Duststorm dipped his head to Wildheart and answered, "It went very well, thank you for asking."

Stormstar had jumped when his brother walked into him, and just smiled and dipped his head. When he heard the voice of his deputy, Stormstar glanced at the she-cat next to him. "Oh, not much, Raccoonheart. Just a small talking." He told the silver she-cat, before turning his gaze to the medicine cat. "Is your herb stock well, Wildheart?"

"That's good, Duststorm, glad to hear it!" Wildheart said. "The herbs are plentyful, except I seem to be running out of dock. I will get some as soon as I get done eating." He went around his brother and picked up a rabbit.

Overhearing the conversation between the older cats, she thought If I were old enough I would gladly help Wildheart, but I'm not. Mintkit continued to listen in on the others' sharing-tongues.
