Darkness Creeps

Maddie and Ivy ran into math class right as the bell rang. They sat next to each other, as usual. It had actually been a normal day. Except for at recess. Recess was the only abnormal part of the day.
“hey! Ivy!” whispered Maddie as Mrs. Barley, their math teacher, yelled at some of the boys in the back for throwing pencils at something or someone. “did you see what happened at recess today?”
“yea, why?”
“what what were those 3 black shapes in the sky?”
“ and why do you expect me to know?”
“ I don't know!”
“neither do I.”
They stopped talking as Mrs. Barley's voice died down. They didn't talk for the rest of the period, because Mrs. Barley was angry and would surely give them detentions if they were caught talking.
Finally the bell rang. Everyone ran out despite Mrs. Barley's cries of “Don't run in the halls!” Maddie and Ivy ran to the locker room to get changed. They resumed their conversation on the way there.
“ So what do you think those black shapes were?” Maddie asked Ivy.
“ Honestly? I think someone was trying out crazy Halloween decorations.” said Ivy musingly. “or someone lost their sheets in the wind. Either or.”
“Yeah right. I doubt that someone lost their sheets.” said Maddie as they were changing.
