Flurry of Feathers [Open Hunting Topic]

Flurrypaw's eyes were narrowed as he stalked among the undergrowth, eyes trailing a bird hopping among the fallen leaves. It was hard, closing the distance without a paw straying on the dead leaves but he was determined - he had to prove himself. He was not alone of course, not far from him was the rest of his hunting patrol but each had splintered off. He didn't quite know what the leaves turning colors and starting to fall actually meant but he had seen the nervousness in Acornstar and a few other older cats - nervousness from something that had happened last time and how it had to do with a lack of prey. A fear of it repeating.

If Flurrypaw had his way, he would manage to keep the Clan fed on his own - he would happily spend every waking moment flexing his hunting ability to keep his Clanmates content. But that started with him catching this bird... His tail swished as he came to a stop - the bird was carefully knocking around leaves to find any stray nuts or seeds beneath. It was distracted, hopefully it was all that he needed... Flurrypaw made his leap, claws flashing in the air as his aimed true - a paw slamming into the bird's side and pinning it before he quickly killed it with another swift swipe. He huffed, content as he picked it up and turned to find a hiding place for it.

Quailprowler stalked on her own, away from the group. Despite her daughter also being on this patrol, she still preferred hunting alone. Doing most things alone. Stretching her maw with her long fangs, she scented the air around her. A rabbit, her favorite prey, rewarded her for this action. Instantly, Quailprowler dropped to a crouch and prowled - true to her name - through the underbrush. The largest, or one of them, and she was still able to be ever so quiet. The pelt of the rabbit was transferring to white with the up-coming season change and stuck out like a sore thumb. With a powerful leap, she was on her prey and standing proudly over her catch. She licked the rabbit's blood from her maw, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.

Minkbite had wandered a little way from the group, keeping a part of her mind trained on her brother’s scent so she didn’t stray too far. She’d been following a mouse trail, likely one already spooked based on how much distance it had managed to cover so quickly. She picked her way along the forest floor, careful not to brush the vegetation any more than necessary.

In her effort to not be heard, she neglected staying out of sight. In an instant, the mouse was gone.

Minkbite tried to catch a mouse and failed.
