Asterpaw the Great arose in the early hours of the morning. His eyes peeked open one by one, ears quietly listening to the breathing of his denmates. Already, his pelt was tingling with the excitement of starting his apprenticeship. The next stage of greatness! The tom was so giddy, he practically pranced out of the den.
The sun had yet to peek through the gaps between surrounding trees. Asterpaw summoned a deep breath, inhaling sharply and was pleasantly surprised by the chill that sent a shiver down his spine. It was refreshing after the hot moon of new-leaf, to not feel as if his pelt were being set on fire by the flaming sun above. Cool weather, a new day, a new start, it couldn't get any better than this for his first day of training! Now all he had to do was find his mentor.
Should I look for her in the warriors' den? Nah.. she'd think you're a weirdo! Who invades privacy like that anyway.. he thought, pushing a pebble around outside the den. Fortunately, the eager apprentice did not have to wait long before a dark pelt emerged. "Mistflower! I-" clearing his throat, he began again. "*ahem I mean.. Oh, hey Mistflower..."
Second try's the charm! Can't believe I just yelled her name out like that, so not cool.. Despite the tom's best attempts at keeping his voice 'chill' and 'nonchalant', it was clear he was impatient. A question for his mentor already bubbled to the top of his mind. "What're we gunna do first? Patrol? Spar? Take down an owl?" Asterpaw was already moving towards the camp entrance at a happy trot, only briefly glancing back at the warrior to check that she was following.

you never had a chance, you know
Mistflower, despite her generally skittish nature, had mastered the art of sleeping soundly: sharing a den with someone like Lightningbreeze, she'd had to if she wanted to actually sleep at all. Though what roused her now wasn't her fellow warrior's antics, but the loud-and-clear voice of an apprentice...
Of her apprentice, calling by name, and as he caught his volume and lowered it as needed she rose to her paws. "Let the others sleep," she whispered to him as she followed him out of the den, taking the lead as she slipped out of camp. Then, at a more normal volume: "I'm happy to see you're ready to begin training, Asterpaw. What were you hoping we'd start with?"

Asterpaw _
Asterpaw felt his ears grow hot with slight embarrassment for his wake-up call, but if it meant finally starting his training, he was certainly not about to apologize for it. Mistflower didn't seem to mind and continued through the camp entrance at a faster pace. "I don't know.. I've been looking forward to apprenticeship for ages. I'd be happy to do... well anything! Just show me how it's done. " he chattered, following the warrior with his tail raised high.

"In that case, I don't want to keep you waiting any longer," Mistflower mused. "Let's start with hunting, and we can talk as we go. We hunt birds, but do you already know what the other Clans are known for hunting?"
For a moment, she fell perfectly silent; spotting a nearby bird and setting her sights on it.
Tail swaying lightly, she only hesitated for a split second before pouncing, returning with her prize.
