Subject: Adderpaw's Moonstone Journey Sat 7 Sep 2024 - 10:32
The cave's entrance loomed above the two cats as if a maw were about to eat them both. Sleepycloud paused, glancing back at Adderpaw. "I wish I could convince Sweetheart to improve." It was sudden, but she knew Adderpaw must have gone through it as her apprentice. The warrior's callous reaction to Stormsong's death and Sleepycloud's ensuing wounds following the battle against the badger and the words still lingered with her. But, having to have Sweetheart as a mentor? She shut her eyes for a moment before turning back to the Highstones.
"Please know you are worth more than the words she has thrown at you." Sleepycloud paused. "Follow closely." She instructed as they walked through the tunnel. Knowing the path by heart, Sleepycloud led Adderpaw through the twisting tunnels with the tip of her tail. The cavern widened, and the Moonstone shone in all her glory. The medicine cat stood aside and nodded toward the stone. "Touch your nose to the stone and rest. Once you are asleep, StarClan --Or Gekala -- will come. When you awake, I will be here to take you home." Maybe she should learn a bit more about their religion in the future.
Or was she supposed to encourage them only to follow StarClan? Or are Gekala and StarClan the same? Sleepycloud pondered this silently.

Adderpaw hadn't paid much attention to the path she was traveling as she followed Sleepycloud to highstones. Things were mostly quiet between the pair, up until they stood at the entrance of Mothermouth.
Adderpaw hadn't even been thinking about Sweetheart, the cat not even worth her time, but she couldn't help the snort of contempt that escaped her as her name was brought up. "I don't even try to get her to change. I don't think she even has the intelligence to see how wrong she is. The common sense has certainly been chasing her. She's just been faster."
She gave the medicine cat a grin. She could respect the thought behind the medicine cat's words, and her kindness was not lost on her. Even if Adderpaw herself had grown numb to Sweetheart's antics.
"Thank you, Sleepycloud. That means a lot. Truly. And if it helps any, I like to think I have been just as much a thorn in Sweetheart's side as well." Normally it might have been a bad thing to admit she had been trying to be a pain, but given who her mentor was, she didn't think any cat could fault her for being petty.
She followed close behind the medicine cat, until the moonstone shone in front of her. It truly was as brilliant as she always heard.
Dipping her head in gratitude to Sleepycloud, Adderpaw lowered herself to the ground, touching her nose to the stone and allowing sleep to overcome her.
When the young cat awoke, it would not be to a star-speckled forest like so many of her peers had woken to. The cat sitting before Adderpaw was translucent, her form seeming to waver just a little in the moonlight that seeped through the canopy above, with the trees behind her showing faint outlines through golden, spotted fur.
Aurelia had died before any of her kits had become warriors, and her rest had been a peaceful one... More peaceful than the Starclanners who seemed to be called to commune with the living for every little thing. She nad not watched much... But she did keep an eye on her family, her kin. Her little Quail had grown into a strong warrior and had kits of her own, and Aurelia had taken interest in them, naturally.
"Greetings, Adderpaw." The spotted she-cat's voice was soft and slightly rough, a hint of a purr behind it. "I am Aurelia... It is good to see that some of my kin have not forgotten their roots. You may have been raised within the clans, as was your mother... But I had hope that what my companions and I taught our kits would be passed on." She had been far less devoted than Hank was to the traditions that were so foreign to the clan cats, but to have been called upon so strongly, to see her kin lived and remembered their roots... There was a flash of pride in the golden she-cat's green eyes.
"Your... Healer... Medicine cat... Is right. You are worth more than what that foolish kit says. Let your success get under her fur, it does not reflect poorly on you."
