Pondkit
every ripple a lesson; the pond is a mirror to the soul;
Pondkit was alone again. Foxpaw and Asterpaw were busy doing their apprentice duties, his mother had left the nursery to resume her own warrior duties now that he was old enough, and the medicine cats were always busy. No one had time for him. He sat curled up outside the nursery and rolled a tiny pebble under his paw, tears threatening to spill over down his face. Other kits called him a crybaby. He was smaller than most kits his age, and still a little sickly.
Pondkit sniffled as he looked out over camp, his loneliness almost consuming him entirely. Was he just not good enough? Foxpaw and Asterpaw played games with him sometimes, but they were mostly keep-away games. Either they played too rough, or not at all. Maybe something was wrong with him, why else would he be so alone? Pondkit lowered his big ears and curled in on himself, tucking his tail around his paws for some kind of comfort.

Firetreader"Nothing in the world that I do means a thing without you" -T1 Warrior-

Firetreader padded into the camp, a couple of squirrels clutched between his jaws, and padded swiftly to deposit them on the fresh-kill-pile with a soft thump. Two fluffy tails flopped over the bodies of other, older catches, and with a dismissive twitch of his tail, the tom turned and surveyed the camp. It was a quiet day, and he didn't have anything else planned for the day, but perhaps he could still find a way to make himself useful. Though, as his sights landed on a small form outside the nursery, all thoughts of anything fled his mind. He couldn't quite remember the name of the kit, but something about the way he was sitting, body trembling slightly with unshed tears, reminded him a little bit of himself. Himself when he was younger, anyway.
He didn't cry much anymore. Not since he realized that it didn't do anything but waste time. Of course, it wasn't so easy to tell that to a little kit. It wouldn't have done any good to have told a younger version of him, either. What did help, however, was having some cat around who cared. Blazepaw cared and that helped. So maybe, just maybe, he could care enough for that kit to quit sniffling in the corner like he'd just lost his best friend. In a few strides, Firetreader was standing over the kit, his head tipped almost curiously to the side. How was he supposed to talk to a kit? "C'mon, get up." He meowed after a moment. "Wanna learn a few of my moves?"

Pondkit
every ripple a lesson; the pond is a mirror to the soul;
A voice startled him out of his thoughts and Pondkit raised his head, meeting the gaze of a young warrior. Firetreader, he remembered. Blinking away fresh tears, he nodded and sniffled, getting to trembling paws.
"Y-You mean it...?" he mewed, hope blossoming in his chest. "Um...like real warrior moves? O-Or just play stuff? Am I...allowed to learn? I'm not an apprentice yet..." His big wet eyes shifted nervously and he kneaded his little paws into the earth. What if he got in trouble, or hurt? It was nice of Firetreader to make time out of his busy warrior life to talk to him, though.
After a moment he nodded again, mostly to himself, and looked up at the warrior again. "You're, um, you're Firetreader, right...? I remember your ceremony not too long ago... Um, I'm Pondkit. I think-...I think I'm gonna be an apprentice soon, but for now...still a kit."

Firetreader"Nothing in the world that I do means a thing without you" -T1 Warrior-

Firetreader gazed down steadily at Pondkit, one eyebrow raised at his rambling. One would think that a kit would be ecstatic to learn a move or two from a warrior, but he supposed there would always be those that had their reservations. Especially if circumstances as of late had been...he frowned as Pondkit sniffled and shifted nervously...less than fortunate. Putting on what he hoped was an encouraging smile, the tortoiseshell warrior dipped his head. "Real warrior moves." he insisted, tail whipping back and forth with energy. "But don't worry, you're nearly an apprentice, as you said. My father taught my littermates and I real warrior moves much earlier." Of course, that gas done little help once he and his siblings became apprentices. Well over half of his litter was dead now. It was just him and Lilypaw now. Well, he wouldn't stand idly by as more kits were raised with paws of soft down and tales of greatness.
The forest was not so forgiving as many made it out to be. Still, the warrior didn't let his sour thoughts show on his face and, instead, lowered himself a bit to be at Pondkit's eye level. "Anyhow, I promise you have nothing to worry about, Pondkit." Then, voice lowered into a conspiratorial whisper, he added, "Now how about I show you one of my favorite moves, yeah? The other kits will all be jealous you're learning already, I imagine." He purred. With a flick of his tail, Firetreader gestured for Pondkit to follow him as he stepped further into the center of the clearing. He was often alone growing up, but that didn't mean everyone else had to be as well.

Pondkit
SkyClan | Kit | he/him
"O-Okay," Pondkit conceded, lowering his voice just as Firetreader had, as if they were telling secrets to one another. The warrior stepped away then and moved to the center of the clearing and Pondkit followed, his tears mostly forgotten in exchange for a little bit of excitement.
He was going to be an apprentice soon, and it would be good for him to already know a few things. He could get a head start on the others, and maybe Foxsnap and Asterpaw would even be impressed. Pondkit stopped before Firetreader, blinking expectantly. He didn't dare come too close, giving the warrior a proper amount of space to do what he needed to do. "What are you gonna show me?" he asked, ears perked as his whiskers twitched with anticipation.

Firetreader glanced at Pondkit as they both made their way to the center of the camp, his tail twitching thoughtfully behind him as he tried to decide what to teach the little tom. If it was too difficult, he might not get it right away and feel worse than before. Too easy, however, and he might not feel challenged. Not just that, but he had to pick something the younger, smaller cat would be able to accomplish. Ah, and nothing dangerous either. Mousedung, how did cats train apprentices and not feel as if their fur would fall out from all of the stress? Finally, once they were in the middle of the clearing, Firetreader turned around to face Pondkit, his yellow eyes narrowed.
"Why don't we try out something simple to start with." He smiled convincingly. "Just to give you a taste." Making sure his claws were sheathed first, Firetreader nodded to himself and reared up onto his hind legs before swatting at the air in front of him in quick succession. Whiskers twitching, the tortoiseshell tom dropped onto his paws with a thump. "That's a pretty common move you might see in a battle. Depending on your opponent, it might scare them into thinking you're bigger than you actually are. You'll also be able to reach their face or ears better." Was that too violent for a kit? Surely not. Sunfire had shown him and his littermates worse. Still, Firetreader ducked his head to lick his chest uncertainly.
"So, what do you think?" He asked after a moment. He wasn't sure this would help at all with what was bothering the young tom, but maybe it'd help keep his mind off of whatever it was? Talking about it might help more, but Firetreader had never been the type to talk about feelings. Especially not once Blazepaw had died. Trying not to frown, Firetreader shook such thoughts from his head. "Want to try on me? Claws sheathed, of course."
