POPPYSTAR
Just stop your crying...
It has felt like ages since a new apprentice was ready to become a warrior, but after recommendations from Rookflight, it looked that Lightpaw was finally going to join the ranks as a warrior. Poppystar’s paws buzzed with excitement as she moved to the Willow Branch and hopped up onto it. Save for the occasional small announcement, the Willow Branch has remained empty. Now she could finally occupy it.
She smiled out at her clan and announced in a loud, strong voice, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting!”

It was finally time. Lightpaw hopped to his feet when Poppystar's call rang out, his eyes glowing with excitement. He knew that Rookflight had discussed his training with Poppystar, so it felt only natural that his ceremony would come soon after. Lightpaw gently pushed his way towards the front of the group of gathering RiverClanners and took a seat, looking up at Poppystar expectantly.
Poppystar watched Lightpaw hurry to the front of the crowd and she smiled at him. It was nice to see a cat move up in the ranks ater so long. The peace and quiet was nice in the clan, but the excitement of new kits, apprentices, or warriors was always welcomed. She beckoned him forward before she could begin.
“I, Poppystar, leader of RiverClan, call upon the stars and warriors before us to look on this apprentice. He has trained hard to learn the ways of our clan and the Warrior Code, and I commend them to the stars as a warrior.” She beamed down at Lightpaw, feeling the excitement and pride of a leader to watch her clan grow. “Lightpaw, do you promise to uphold the code and defend and honor RiverClan, even at the cost of your life?” It was a heavy vow, as always, but it was an important one for the sake of the clan s well as the warrior.

Lightpaw took a step forward as Poppystar called his name, his heart thundering in his chest. Was he truly ready for this? Rookflight and Poppystar seemed to think so. Uncertainty twisted his stomach into knots, and then he remembered what Birdsong had told him when he visited StarClan. He had to be more confident, more sure of himself. Smiling despite his nerves, he looked up at Poppystar and nodded. "I do."
Poppystar could see some uncertainty in Lightpaw’s eyes as he wrestled briefly in his own mind. She had seen the same in many warriors, but the decision he swiftly came to was a good one. He sounded assertive and true as he accepted the risks that came with being a warrior. Poppystar smiled back at him. “Then I grant your warrior name. Lightpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Lightshine.”
The -shine suffix had been granted to her by Perchstar when she became a warrior, and it felt appropriate to grant it to someone else in her clan now that she as a leader with -star as her suffix instead. Another warrior to pave a bright path in their clan; she knew that Lightshine would do wonderfully in that regard. She added aloud, “Your clanmates honor your optimism and kindness, and we welcome you as a full warrior of RiverClan.”
She stepped down from the branch to meet with the newly-named Lightshine. She rested her muzzle on top of his head, marking the conclusion of the ceremony as other cats called out the new name happily. Poppystar pulled back and smiled brightly at her newest warrior.
Rookflight, of course, had been there when the ceremony was called. They attended all ceremonies, even if they stuck simply to the back of the ground, but they were particularly sure to attend this one. They had discussed Lightpaw’s progress with Poppystar recently, and he had been to the Moonstone as well; it was time for his ceremony. From their usual spot at the fringes of the crowd, Rookflight watched through wide eyes. They did not join the crowd in cheering once the name was announced, as cheering was simply not in their nature, but they wound through the crowd after Poppystar stepped away to stand in front of their now-former apprentice. Their first apprentice. Rookflight’s whiskers quivered with pride and a faint smile moved across their muzzle. ”Lightshine,” they said softly. ”It is a good name. Congratulations. I look forward to watching you continue to grow as a warrior.”

Lightshine. To be named partly after the leader was a real honor, and he decided at once that the name suited him perfectly. He beamed as the Clan chanted his new name and dipped his head for Poppystar to touch her muzzle to his forehead. Once she had stepped away, Lightshine spun on his heels and looked for Rookflight in the crowd. It seemed Rookflight had the same idea, as the tuxedo cat was already approaching.
"Thank you for everything," he purred and bumped his head affectionately into his former mentor's shoulder. "I couldn't have done it without you, Rookflight. Oh, and now we can share a den together, right?" He smiled up at them, then a sudden thought crossed his mind. His voice filled with emotion as he continued, "I'm so glad you were my mentor, I couldn't have asked for a better one."
