It's a Dangerous Business

Sprucebark took a deep breath in through his nostrils. He felt tingly all over his pelt. All the preparations were in order. Scorchlight and him had permission to go look for their son out of the usual territory.

He had done everything he could to prepare for this, he had been drilling sparring over and over until he was sure he could take on what might be thrown at them, he had prepped out a route in his mind and a schedule that of course the orderly tom would do his best to maintain.

However, now that it was time to go he could barely stomach the nerves that were creeping into the very corners of his being. He took a look around the camp clearing, this was his home, it felt unintuitive to be actively going away from it.

He had been twice before, once when the flood carried himself and his brother Hawk down river. They had found their way back together.

Secondly, when the twolegs captured him, he had survived and found his way back from that too... in his heart he knew tempting fate a third time was a bad idea. Yet the thought of his son being lost out there was simply more than he could bare and so it was what it would be.

Going to the middle of the camp he went to his mate Scorchlight, they had been a good pair this entire time and now they would have an adventure of their own. She had led him though the lake journey and he hoped they would find their son together now as well.

"Ready to go Scorchy?" he meowed


He turned towards the clanmates that were nearby.

"We should be on our way, we have a long travel day ahead." he dipped his head to them all

Scorchlight had taken her preparation seriously, hunting at the first glisten of dawn to search the running streams for her fresh-kill before bringing it back to the camp and taking her share of it. She had also taken the administered herbs; she just wanted to be extra equipped for this long, treacherous journey. She was ready to find her son—it wasn’t an option to die there; she would bring him back if it was her last breath. He didn’t deserve this, of all she did! She would rather be in Elmstorm’s position right now, wherever in this wacky world he was. Her eyes were misty and clouded with doubt before she replied promptly to Sprucebark and Poppystar.

"I’ll make sure we make it back," she meowed with determination. She didn’t want to seem unfocused on such a situation, so she lovingly nuzzled up to Sprucebark. She had trained a whole moon for this, boosting and bettering herself just for this sole journey. There was no running away from it now. Even with the thoughts and anxiety buzzing in her head, she could do this.
