Subject: New Rank, Same Faces [Pigeonpounce] Fri Aug 16, 2024 7:21 pm
"Pidge, you in there?" Swandive couldn't help the way her nose wrinkled at the cloying scent of herbs that clung to the medicine den as she stood awkwardly near the entrance. Her patrol had ran into an obnoxious bird, and the obnoxious bird had breathed it's last, hopefully regretting the foolish decision to take on a pair of Riverclanners.
She'd been growled at to go to the medicine den despite her protesting. The scratches across her back stung sure, but they'd probably be fine. But it did give her an excuse to see Pigeonpounce. They hadn't talked in a bit, longer than Swandive cared to admit really. So she stood outside the medicine den, the fish she'd caught before the stupid bird fight in her jaws.

PIGEONPOUNCE
Life gives you lemons...
The sound of Swandive’s voice alone was enough to get her on her paws, scrambling for the entrance of the den, but it was the scent of blood on the air outside that really had Pigeonpounce moving. A pale, fuzzy head popped out of the lichens and reeds that guarded the entrance to the den. ”Yeah, ‘M here--oh, geez, Swan.” Blood leaked down her sister's shoulders, across her ribs. Deep talonmarks raked across the length of her back. Pigeonpounce's breath caught in her throat at the sight of Swandive, but she swallowed it back quickly. She wasn't much good if she got nauseous at the sight of her family's blood.
"C-come on," Pigeonpounce beckoned, backing into the den to allow her sister the space to follow, "come inside." She was quick to bustle Swandive into a nearby nest, no matter how she might've protested. Pigeonpounce leaned over to sniff at the wounds and groom away some of the blood before pulling away to frown at Swandive. "Geez," she exhaled again, half a laugh, "didja almost get carried 'way by somethin' or what?" Pigeonpounce's nose wrinkled in a gesture of amusement even though her stomach curdled at the thought. Stars, what would she do if something had dragged Swandive off? Or if she'd returned to camp with even worse wounds?
Pigeonpounce shook her head. She shuffled away from her sister and over to the herb stores, muttering the names of what she was looking for--names Wrensong had taught her--as she went. She gathered a few dock leaves between her teeth, chewing them absently while she gathered cobwebs around a forepaw. Then she hopped back, three-pawed, over to Swandive. "Uhm," she started around her mouthful, still chewing between words, "thif'll prob'ly thting." She spat the paste onto her clean forepaw and, gently as she could, plastered it over the bloody wounds that scored Swandive's back. "Sorry, sorry," she murmured as she went. Then it was time to shift her weight so she could nip at the cobwebs to unspool them, layering those over the leaf-paste with the same carefulness.
When she was done--and, for the first time, satisfied with her work--Pigeonpounce sat back on her haunches. Her tail swept to curl around her forepaws; holding herself in a small display of nerves. "'S it hurt too bad? I can give ya somethin' if it does," she said quietly. "I don't want ya to be in pain." Pigeonpounce tipped foreward to bunt the flat of her head against Swandive's. "Y-yer okay, right?"

It was a relief to see Pigeonpounce among the reeds, and Swandive managed a small smile. "It's worse than it looks, I swear... I hope." Her sister's concern made Swandive uncomfortable, though she couldn't put a reason as to why as her pelt prickled.
"Dumb, oversized bird certainly tried." She scoffed, "We killed it, of course." There was a bit of pride in that knowledge. The birds were tenacious beasts, but still dumb at heart.
Swandive grumbled in protest at being guided into a nest, but relented. Still, her nose wrinkled and she couldn't help but wonder why anyone would willingly choose this. Someone had to keep the clan healthy, of course, but the herbs, the blood, the illness that had ravaged the clan when they'd all be at the lake... The medicine den was a place that Swandive preferred to be as far as possible from. Pigeonpounce turned the stores of various plants and things Swandive didn't have the knowledge to name. She'd adapted well to the change in rank, it seemed.
"F-" She bit off a curse as Pigeonpounce began applying the poultice to her wounds. "Yeah... That stings a bit." She tried to keep still as Pigeonpounce worked, but keeping her paws where they were and not wrenching away from her sister was a struggle, her ears flat against her head even when her sister stepped back. Swandive didn't miss the way her tail curled over her paws, nerves if she'd ever seen them.
"No no, I'll be fine. Promise." She mewed quickly, trying to be reassuring. Her wounds did really sting, but she did not enjoy Pigeonpounce worrying, much less worrying over her.
"How've you been, sis? This is... Quite the change from being a warrior, isn't it? We haven't talked in forever, it feels like."
