| Welcome to the 2024 Forest Games!
Sports list: - Hunting Competition (singles) - Hunting Competition (teams) - Warrior Herb Knowledge - Sparring - Sprinting (400 m) (windclan bonus) - Climbing and Jumping (skyclan bonus) - Swimming (riverclan bonus) - Tracking (thunderclan bonus) - Blending In (Shadowclan bonus)
Sports sign up: Character: Representing Clan: Chosen Sport: Picture of your character (REQUIRED!): Teammates (if applicable):
Credit to Copperbeans for helping me think about this as a whole, the Forest games would not have been possible without Copper : ) Please read the following in complete for your sport before you send your sign up. Any incomplete part of the sign up can result in your character not being allowed to compete.
I know there is a lot of events - I have included an OOC note for them to help you think about them and consider which ones to sign up for: This section will be marked as What to consider for this event OOC:
The following will be a breakdown of each of the available sports to pick from, their rules and how you will need to sign up for them.
As a Note: I have made some events require a little bit of math to calculate your score. Please feel free to ping me if you ever have questions on them.
Each character can sign up to 2 event (I am limiting this because I am hoping a lot of cats join this and so you have to pick which character goes where) You can have different characters go to different events of course.
Each clan has one event that they get a bonus in. This is due to their daily lives perhaps conditioning them towards this event.
The bonus is purposely meant to be very minor but it is meant to help cats who in character should be better at different things.
For example, river cats really should sweep the swimming, but that is no fun for competition so they get a slight edge yes but it will not be enough to guarantee any win.
Credit for Midnee for brainstorming the sprinting parts of this with me. The rules for the Sprinting event was a team effort between myself and Midnee's thinking about it.
Sprinting 400 M For the sprinting plain course, there will be a system set up as follows:
I did some playing around with the numbers and to have the game move at the pace I would like for it, I have decided the following:
The hunting dice will be used (this is the 1-10) Each runner will roll a hunting dice the distance they move for that turn is as follows
Distance run in that turn = 40+(Dice roll−1)×6 + (2 wc bonus) if your character is wc you get a +2 to each turn. (This really is not very much at all and as stated earlier the advantage types are not meant to be determaning who wins but it does give a minor edge to wc in this event)
Each turn distance is then added to your total distance run so far.
The reason for doing it this way is a couple reasons: 1) It keeps the game to the number of rounds that I think is reasonable 2) It compresses the running distance any one turn so that it doesn't look unbalanced right out of the starting gate. For example if someone got a 10 vs someone elses 1 the 10 will have an advantage (as they should) but it is not like the person who rolled the 1 is completly out of it with no shot from then on.
The first character to hit 400 m as their running total will win the championship
All characters must be allowed to post their distance before any one character takes their next turn.
However, there is no strict posting order while in the turns.
Meaning for a concrete example lets say there is three cats - Cat A, Cat B ,Cat C
On turn one they all will post rolling their dice and moving along the course,
The posting order can be any order of them but they must wait before rolling their next dice until all of them have rolled for that turn.
In order to keep the event moving on and not stalling out there will be a posting time limit
IF your character does not post in a 72 hour window of the turn beginning your character will slip and you will be penalized 10 meters. You are not out of the race but missing a full turn and losing 10 m will be very costly. This is to keep things moving but I also don't want to disqualify someone if something comes up.
What to consider for this event OOC: Consider signing up for this if you are okay with posting a lot of times and are going to be okay with staying on top of your posting. This is a longer race and will take quite a few dice rolls to finish
Hunting Singles
A hunting singles event will be using the hunting system as its base. There will be 4 turns your character will have to hunt something. The cat who catches the most will win. Pretty simple really. However there is a catch.
I really am hoping for lots of sign ups and since I think there might be there is a good possibility that many will be in this event, so over 4 turns there is a high chance we will have ties, I could try and combat this with requiring more hunting but that doesnt allow for as much strategy as I want and I want to move events along at a fair pace.
So, to combat ties, the tiebreak will be the difficulty of the prey just caught.
For example, Riverclan has a 1-4 success rate on birds (from the hunting table) skyclan has a 1-8 on birds.
if a riverclanner and skyclanner had equal number of prey they would be in a tiebreak. To determain the winner of the tiebreak the prey that was harder to catch will be the winner. (it is more impressive if a riverclanner catches a bird than a sky cat who does that pretty much daily)
The first and foremost thing looked at will always be the total number of catches! The tiebreaks only come into effect if the total number of catches is in a tie.
The way a tiebreak is calculated is as follows:
add up the dice limit rolls for success of ALL your caught prey (for example above the rc cat would have a score of 4 and the skyclanner a tiebreak score of 8)
You want your tiebreak score to be low because that means the catches were more impressive for your clan type. Only caught successfully prey will be looked at when doing the tiebreaks (missed attempts on a bird will not be calculated into your tiebreak score)
What to consider for this event OOC: Consider this event for a show off character who wants to take on the forest on their own! They should be eager to win.
Hunting Team
Literally the same as hunting singles but for our more social clanmates lols.
It will be done with 4 total cats on a team. You must fill out the teammates section of the form for this event and your teammates must match your application (meaning you all have agreed to be a team for it)
For funsies, I dont care if you go cross clans for this. Wanna hunt with a shadowclanner and a riverclanner on your team? Live your dream! And instead of one cat having 4 attempts - each teammate will have one attempt
What to consider for this event OOC: Consider this event for a sociable character or if you are wanting to meet new cats cross clans. OR also if you want a quick event to join since it is only one dice roll post
Warrior Herb Knowledge Disclaimer up front * * Of all the events this one is the most objectively difficult to score. I don't have a way to check what your character warriors know about herbs. Because of this, please don't sign up to this event if your character (or you XD lols) is very competitive or argumentative. This is more so a trivia type styled "medal". The med cats in character will have the say on our medalists. Any OOC complaining, arguing or being salty about the med cats decision will immediately disqualify ALL your characters from the entirety of the Forest Games will remove all medals won by your characters and will be heavily frowned upon. No OOC drama will come of this I swear to stars. You may be salty, mad ext in character that is of course fine and I encourage that sure, but any attacks or any drama started OOC will be punished.
For this event, Medicine cats will be our judges <3
Judges will ask the warriors in the event increasingly difficult questions about their herb knowledge. Questions can also be asked to demonstrate how a warrior would preform first aid to a hurt clanmate in a pretend situation.
Our beloved judges will then discuss amongst themselves how well each contender did and how likely the warrior would have done in keeping their wounded clanmate alive until a real med cat could come help in this pretend senerio.
What to consider for this event OOC: Consider this event for a warrior that hangs around their med cat alot. Please keep in mind the disclaimer as well
Sparring For sparring, I am going to have it open. Meaning there will be no weight classes, trying to manage 3 different weight classes for this AND keep on top of all other events is just too much to ask for me to keep up with.
As such... you probably should only throw T4 and T5 characters into here if you want it to have a shot at a medal (OR you could toss an arrogant apprentice in who needs to learn a lesson lols)
I am not going to stop anyone from participating with whatever rank they want to but please note you will get unfair match ups if you join with a T3 or lower rank character. Dont worry though, the reason for so many events is you can send that character somewhere else : )
The scoring for this is going to be a bit tricky for me to set up before I know HOW many cats are going to this event.
The battle system will be used as the base first.
I think I will break cats into groups and you must win some number of games within your group to then be put into the bracket section of the tournament.
Again.. this is hard to show you the exact set up before I know numbers - but I will have a posted set up prior to the event starting once I know the number of players :D
What to consider for this event OOC: Consider this event for a warrior with high ranks
Climbing and Jumping
This event is perhaps the most artistic. Maybe you are reading this and thinking... 'speedy how is climbing artistic?'
It is because not only will your character being climbing up onto a branch tree, they will be doing flips and tricks off it.
The score for this will be as follows:
First, pick a difficulty score for your character to do - 1-10
The higher the chosen difficulty the harder it will be to pull off.
How will you play your game? Will you go for an easier trick worth less points or will you go for a hard trick that is less likely to land without a stumble?
Scoring:
Before rolling the dice, choose a difficulty for the trick 1-10
That will be your guide to if you land the trick or not.
(essentially you get to pick your success rate of the trick)
Landing the trick requires a hunting roll of the tricks difficulty of it or higher. Missing a trick gives a flat score of the trick level minus 8 (min of 0) meaning it is very costly to miss your trick a difficult of 10 while hitting it would give 10 and missing would only give 2.
(meaning a difficulty of 1 would be always obtainable... I imagine a difficulty 1 being your character just hops off the branch and maybe they like even stumble from that lol)
You will have 2 trick attempts to do and you KEEP YOUR HIGHEST (your low score is thrown out, not used at all)
For this game - order does matter and with the game theory the way it is , its an advantage to go last. (you would see what score you have to beat) To combat this meta gaming, the posting order will become swapped in reverse on the second set of tricks. (the math shows that going last on the second set of tricks still would give an advantage for this but it is the best I can do while keeping it simple). The posting order will be randomized to begin with so there is that.
*The skyclan advantage for this is that a skyclanner can hit a difficulty 10 trick with a dice roll of 9 OR 10. It is not a huge advantage just like the above wc advantage for sprinting, its just meant to add flavor. A landed 10 trick will garuntee a win (or at least a tie) but risking only a 9 and 10 is still high risk. This event is a fun game theory question of risk vs reward.
What to consider for this event OOC: Due to posting order mattering, you would consider this event if you are patient in posting orders :) OR if you are a game theory genius.
Swimming 100 m The river is constantly trying to tug you in the wrong direction!
It is going to work somewhat similar to the 400 m simple event. So the event will rely on two dice. So the distance moved is now dependent on how fast you swim and how well you are able to fight the current of the river on your way.
So there will be 2 dice used for this event, the standard hunting dice like above will show how far you got and an event dice will be used to see how well your character can deal with the annoying river current and waves.
For a turn in this event users will roll 1 hunting and 1 event dice
The distance moved per turn will be as follows: Distance swam that turn = [7+(hunting Dice roll *3) ] - (6-event roll) + 3 rc type advantage per roll
first to 100 m wins
The rest of the event rules will be the same as the 400m event above including the 72 hour posting limit. The only change is the penalty for being late to a turn is a -5 m instead of a -10 since it is a shorter race.
What to consider for this event OOC: Consider signing up for this if you are okay with posting only a few times and do not want a super long drawn out topic, I have made this race shorter to allow for people to pick an event if they are busy IRL
Tracking For this event - a kit will get to be the lucky cat of the event. It is a pretend senerio where the kitten is lost and needs to be found. (A queen will be with them due to safety. The queen will be quiet though and is just there for safety and will not help the warriors find the kitten)
For this event the first characters to find the kit are the medal winners.
The scoring for this event will be as follows - Each character will have a choice -
To search using their scent (nose) or to search from more stable means (tracks, pawprints ext)
At the beginning of your turn. Pick if you will be using your nose or if you will search the area for tracks.
If you pick sniffing - you will roll the hunting dice
If you pick searching for tracks you will roll the invasion dice
Finding tracks is a dead giveaway to where the kitten is since you can just follow them to the location.
But they are harder to find than focusing on the scent of the air.
So getting a successful invasion dice is rare but will result in an INSTANT game win.
Sniffing the air takes longer but gets you a little closer each time.
Each hunt roll gives you that roll closer
You will need a combined score of 40 to find the kitten from sniffing and that score is your total sniffing rolls put together.
How will you play? Will you try and look for tracks the whole time? Mix it up? Only sniff??
The thunderclan type advantage for this event is a +1 to their sniff rolls since they live in a very wooded area and must rely on tracking often.
What to consider for this event OOC: If you want to win this event consider first getting a degree in game theory ;) Pick this event if like me you like that kind of thing
Blending In For this event, One lucky cat will get to play the roll of Predator. They will be searching for the hiding attendees of this event.
(its literally hide and seek)
The last ones found are the medal winners.
For the rules of the event - This one is going to be less math and game theory oriented and will instead focus on post and creative writing. The rules for this one are most similar to the judging of the med cat herb test in that they are objective and not set. Therefore, the same rules will apply of being a good sport and keeping the spirit of the Forest Games of loving, friendly competition.
Formulate a post of your character hiding, keep in mind their pelt colors their markings and their surroundings.
For this post really focus on your writing style and be your own writing stylist. Each of us have a unique writing style and that is what makes wcc so loved by me.
Everyone in the site will get to be the judge for this one (this allows for lots of fun participation I hope)
Readers will judge over how well the post describes the character hiding, what tricks they did to cover themselves up or to hide their scent. Readers will get to vote for their favorite post.
Again this is NOT meant at all to be a popularity contest, it is meant so that we can read some fun well thought out posts about a specific topic.
The shadowclan type advantage for this event will be as follows - in the case of a draw of votes the shadowclan cat will get the win due to their night time stealth.
What to consider for this event OOC: This event is really to showcase fun different writing styles. Consider this event to mostly have fun reading and writing fun styles not to win it.
I plan to make this very well planned and thought out with medal pages for all of the sports, sign up rosters for the clan teams and going overboard on the visual presentation of them where I can at least.
I have brainstormed a lot of the events and tried to keep them all somewhat unique while giving each clan a sport they get a little bit of a boost in.
Please remember it is for fun and all. I hope to see you and your characters in the 2024 Forest Games :D ______________________________________ - signature - click to extend:
