Stormwatcher was still 'grounded' by his sister and leader Wolfstar. Ever since he had attacked the riverclan warrior and his ex friend he had to stay in camp and only go out when with another warrior.
It made it difficult to train apprentices with constantly forcing him to make up excuses for why either a warrior or leader was going with them.
Today however, he had the (what he thought anyways) grandest idea! If he could not go out of camp for training his apprnetices - the training could just come here to them IN camp.
He was nodding his head quite pleased with his idea. There was no single way this could go wrong at all, he was sure of it!
He called for his two apprentices over.
"Ospreypaw, Hickorypaw come on over you two training starts right here and now!" he moewed out bellowing it confident as ever.
Of his two apprentices, he had a favorite in Ospreypaw, she had been with him longer and she was actually decent to get along with unlike his more recent apprentice he got stuck with.
It was not a secret that Hickorypaw and himself butted heads quite often and the pair was perhaps even comical to watch as long as you were far enough away whilst watching them.
"Today is spar training." he meowed to his two apprentices,
"and eermm we are gonna do it right here in camp!" he nodded as if this was a perfectly normal thing to do - he hadnt exactly explained to either apprentice the full story of him being grounded and wanted to keep it that way.
"so erm ospreypaw you go over here" he meowed showing her where her side would be ... it was kinda close to the elders den hopefully no elder would step out of their den right into the midst of their fake practice spar
"and erm Hickorypaw you kinda go over here I guess" he meowed pointing with his tail, yup this would work! As long as no kits came charging out of the nursery right under his two apprentices paws this would go very smoothly!
"alright, now you two remember no claws on one another and BEGIN!" he meowed starting them off

Ospreypaw stepped into the middle of camp at the summons. She heard another familiar name as she trotted over to Stormwatcher, one that immediately had her attention. It seemed he was finally pairing her up with his other apprentice. All to set up a spar in the middle of camp, no less. “This should be interesting.” Training right here had to be one of Stormwatcher’s odder ideas, but it could definitely be fun. She supposed there was an extra level of challenge, making sure not to wreak —too much— havoc on the camp as she fought. It made for a rather exciting change. She’d been itching for a fight, and maybe a chance to wow some spectators as well. “Whatever you say, Stormwatcher…”
She grinned widely and stepped back to where her mentor indicated, taking the opportunity to examine her opponent. It was hard to tell how prepared he was. The tom’s attitude tended to overshadow any mention of his skill in whatever she heard from Stormwatcher, and honestly she’d avoided him on patrols because of that reputation. He actually didn’t seem so bad now that she was paying attention. He’d at least showed up for the spar, so Ospreypaw figured she had to give him a chance.
Either way, Ospreypaw was up for a challenge. She took a confident ‘come at me’ stance, with her paws planted firmly in the soft bed of pine needles and a smirk across her muzzle. The apprentice’s competitive nature was clearly out to play. Her tail was raised high with just the end quivering slightly in anticipation. Bright greenleaf sun shone on tabby and white fur, revealing typical SkyClan muscle beneath her pelt. Golden eyes stared right at Hickorypaw in an obvious challenge, giving him the chance to attack first. She figured he would. He must be pretty bold to have smacked their mentor before. “Whenever you’re ready,” she goaded, throwing a wink towards the tom just for good measure.

Hickorypaw Apprentice | Skyclan | He/Him
The voice rang out in camp calling Hickorypaw out of his nest. The voice that Hickorypaw couldn’t stand the most. The voice of that incompetent mentor of his. He dug his claws into his nest as he stretched out his body. ‘Time to see what he wants.’ He grumbled as his mouth split open into a large yawn.
“Sparring… in camp?” Hickorypaw’s eyes narrowed at his mentor. He wasn’t even sure if his mentor had a brain anymore; it had to just be crowfood up there for sure! He moved towards the nursery den, where Stormwatcher had motioned for him to go. His orange eyes met Ospreypaw’s and for a moment the young tom forgot what he was doing, causing him to trip over a tree root, which sent him rolling in front of the nursery.
Hickorypaw shook his head as he stood to his feet. ‘Stupid root!’ he growled to himself as he looked back over to the young molly. He didn’t recognize her but that’s not to say he hadn’t seen her before. He had to have if she was an apprentice! She surely stayed in the apprentice den with him. He really needed to pay more attention to his clanmates and surroundings!
Heat rushed across the young tom’s face as she spoke to him, but he shook his head, what was wrong with him! Hickorypaw’s eyes closed, and he shuffled his feet against the ground until he was conformable in his stance. His eyes opened into narrow slits and his fiery gaze seemed to glow as he stared at his opponent. He was ready and the twisting and turning in his stomach didn’t matter anymore. The only thing that mattered now was not embarrassing himself in front of the whole clan.
A swish of his tail and the wave of his chest when he took a breath was the only movement coming from Hickorypaw. Nothing about him betrayed the thoughts swarming through his mind or the plan he was thinking. With light steps and a clear path ahead, Hickorypaw quickly moved forward and sank his teeth into Ospreypaw’s scruff. He firmly planted his feet to the ground and tugged at her trying to knock her off balance.
Hickorypaw used Bite and Hold on Ospreypaw for -6 HP and -15 EP – Ospreypaw is held for 2 turns
Hickorypaw: 20 HP / 45 EP (-15) Ospreypaw: 14 HP (-6) / 60 EP (1/2 Holds)

The spar was on in a flash!!
Stormwatcher watched intently at the opening of the spar!
To his disliking, Hickorypaw made the first move and had the opening advantage so far it looked like.
He knew, deep down that as a mentor he was supposed to be unbiased between his two apprentices... but he knew darn well that he favored Ospreypaw way more than Hickorypaw.
"Come on Ospreypaw, get free from there, tuck and spin" he meowed gesturing her to get out of the hold like they had practiced.
He wondered if the roles had been reversed... if Ospreypaw had been the one to have a hold on hickorypaw would he mentor him in a way that was helpful for them learning??
He hoped he would... as much as he favored Ospreypaw he knew he was supposed to be teaching them both the skills of sparring... yet a nagging prick at his heart told him he would probably not help Hickorypaw if Osprey was the one with the hold... something that made him upset a bit but there was little time to focus on that.
He glanced around as the pair were now close to the dens ish
Surely other clanmates would be awoken from this... but he always had been the rash one surely they also would know that.
Wolfstar might have a fits over this... but SHE had been the one that said he was stuck in camp and SHE was the one that gave him two apprentices, she couldn't expect him to not be allowed to leave camp and train them too, she couldnt have her squirrel served both ways and maybe this would show his older 'sister' just that.
Was this slightly a bit of a subtle jab at her? ... Perhaps, but more than anything he just wanted these two to learn their sparring as it one day might save their life.
Wolf could throw a fit at him later for all he cared... better yet his sister could promote Osprepaw to warrior she was far ready for it and his sister could also dump this spoiled pain Hickorypaw onto some other warrior - that would be fine by him.
Hickorypaw was the son of the deputy and with that came a lot of arogance that Stormwatcher hoped to knock down a peg or two - perhaps there was multiple reasons he was not even subtly rooting for Ospreypaw in that regard.
"Come on Ospreypaw kick his tail!!!!" he meowed following their tumbling action.
Wow... this was getting intense luckily no kits or elders had been silly enough to wander right into the new training area.

Wolfstar rested in the shade below the tallbranch, though her ears twitched at the noise of warriors coming and going. Still, the leader was already sort of dozing... cat napping, really, when Stormwatcher brought his apprentices to the center of camp.
The commotion of a tussle however, was what roused the tired leader. Blinking the sleep from her eyes, she watched as Hickorypaw found a hold on Ospreypaw's scruff. The latter was the more experienced, though Hickorypaw had always been one to charge in. Sparring in camp... Her gaze slid to Stormwatcher, narrowing slightly. The apprentices would need to be awfully careful not to make a mess of things... An interesting challenge for them as eyes were on them while they sparred, too.
For now, the leader would watch, curious as to how the spar would go.

Ospreypaw's smirk turned to amusement as she watched her opponent stumble over a root obliviously. She couldn't help letting out a chuckle at the comical entrance, and practically had to look away to avoid bursting into full on laughter. Eventually she schooled her expression into something more sympathetic, but her eyes still sparkled with amusement. Hopefully Hickorypaw wouldn't be offended. The tom was clearly embarrassed and almost dazed, looking back at her after the unfortunate tumble. It was actually kind of endearing.
The expression only lasted a moment, though, before his face hardened. She found her gaze meeting intense, burning eyes as both apprentices came to a standstill. Both were in it to win. Then Hickorypaw moved, taking the opening as she'd invited him to. He was quicker than she'd guessed, though, and she wasn't able to dodge before his teeth met fur. The skilled attack certainly made up for his earlier stumble, and Ospreypaw was happy for the challenge. She heeded their mentor's advice and tucked her chin to pull Hickorypaw's neck at an awkward angle. The molly thrashed sideways to throw herself and her opponent into a tight spin. It wasn't quite sufficent to break free, but at least from the new position she could aim a hit at Hickorypaw. Her rear claws scrambled against the ground, giving just enough purchase to swing a paw his way.
The fight was on and she was far too busy to reply to Stormwatcher's overenthusiastic cheering, but still her chest swelled with pride. It was nice to know he was rooting for her. Along with her mentor's words she managed to catch a glimpse of grey and white pelt. It seemed Wofstar was watching too. Ospreypaw dug in with more resolve, wanting to impress the leader. Maybe she would finally earn her warrior name if she did well. Assuming no part of camp was destroyed in the attempt.
Ospreypaw used Smack on Hickorypaw for -5 EP, dealing -4 HP

Hickorypaw growled as the older molly made the grip, he had on her loosen; then another growl rumbled out again as she smacked him. His ears remained pinned back and his eyes cut over to his annoying mentor. His fiery gaze showed just how annoyed he was with Stormwatcher’s obnoxious cheering. He wanted to yell at him so badly, but his mouth was full of Ospreypaw’s scruff.
Orange eyes met icy blue ones that were sitting under Tallbranch; they belonged to Wolfstar no doubt. Hickorypaw got his feet in a better position and gave his leader a small nod although it probably didn’t look like much over all Osprey’s wiggling.
Hickorypaw is still using Bite and Hold on Ospreypaw for -6 HP and -15 EP – Ospreypaw is Held 2/2?
