Sweet Summer Days [C]

Laurelpaw smiled at her clanmate. "Yeah, for sure!" she said. "Maybe we could chase a rabbit away to the other or something." It seemed like Moonpaw was uncomfortable with hunting alone, so Laurelpaw tried to break the tension before they actually went hunting. "It's been so... uneventful recently," she said, sighing. "At least for me. I've had a pretty boring apprenticehood, all things considered." The calico she-cat tilted her head at Moonpaw. "But what about you? Anything interesting pop up? Any cats catch your eye?"

It seemed like Moonpaw didn't have anything to say in response to Laurelpaw's questions. Oh, well, to each their own. She knew some cats didn't have much to say, and it was best to leave them alone when that happened. It seemed like Moonpaw was just as bored as Laurelpaw, though, since she seemed interested in catching the giant bird far in the distance.

"Ooooo, I've never hunted a bird before. Let's do it!" The pheasant seemed like such a challenge, since unlike hunting a rabbit they couldn't run it down (now that she thought about it, was that why Moonpaw was so unenthusiastic about hunting rabbits? It was at least a possibility), and instead had to silently stalk it before pouncing. Before crouching down, the calico she-cat turned to smile at Moonpaw. "You sneak behind, so if I miss you can grab it." Silently stalking the pheasant, taking care to make sure she didn't step on anything that would give her presence away.

She scanned the clearing for Moonpaw, trying to see if she was in position. She couldn't really tell, but it didn't smell like Moonpaw was where she once was, so that was good enough for her. Pouncing at the pheasant, the young she-cat missed the killshot, but caught the bird's tail feathers for a split second, enough time for Moonpaw to potentially take it down herself. I hope she's where I told her to be.

From out of nowhere, Moonpaw pounced on the pheasant, bringing it down as she landed. "What a catch!" Laurelpaw mewed, picking up the pheasant's feather in her paw before running over to Moonpaw. "You're really good at hunting!" Honestly, it felt like she hunted like Leopardwind, of all cats - though they couldn't have been further apart, their instincts and skills seemed surprisingly similar.

Honestly, she didn't find the thought of eating the pheasant that appetizing. The feathers felt really icky to bite into, but as she thought of it longer she could probably pluck them off and it would be fine. They were very pretty, too. "Look at this tail feather," she said, showing Moonpaw the long tail feather she plucked off it. "It's huge. We could line our nests with them, sleep on fluffy feathers instead of the coarse grass we usually have."

Laurelpaw smiled back at Moonpaw. She'd never seen Moonpaw giggle like that, and for a chronically bored cat it was awesome to see her enjoying herself. "Yeah," she said, placing the feather down. "I guess I could bring one to Leopardwind." She wondered what Leopardwind would think if she told him the two of them caught it together. Moonpaw was the exact opposite kind of cat to who Leopardwind liked, but Laurelpaw liked hanging out with her. "Want to go catch another? Imagine the look on Tigerstar's face if we bring two pheasants back!"
