It was early. Far too early, perhaps, for Foxkit to be awake. And it was only barely that he managed to be so, but now that he was, he had no intention of falling back to sleep. Dawn light filtered in through the cracks of the nursery’s roof and Foxkit turned his face up to greet it. He yawned, stretched, and separated himself from the tangle made of his mother and his siblings before getting to his paws. He looked over his siblings once to make sure they were all sleeping peacefully--Otterkit in particular--before he turned and padded out of the den. Cats were already milling about, preparing for the dawn patrol or whatever. Foxkit looked across them all, searching for one face in particular. It wasn’t long before he found it, settled down and eating near the fresh-kill pile.

A smile broke out across Foxkit’s and he wasted no time in kicking his paws forward. He ripped across camp and right up to Harespring’s side, where he skidded to a halt and rose up to bury his little paws in his father’s ribs. ”Dad!” He chirped. ”How’s breakfast? Do you have the lame dawn patrol today? What are you doing today?”
