With the influx of kits that had swiftly become apprentices, Hemlockfox knew that he'd be visiting the Moonstone enough times to finally memorize each pebble and blade of grass on the journey there. He'd not even guided this many SkyClan apprentices to the Moonstone, something that was a bit painful to realize. Though, as he ascended the grey, rocky slopes of Highstones, Hemlockfox pushed all of those thoughts from his mind and glanced back to focus on the topic of tonight's trip - Cloudpaw. She wasn't particularly special, just another apprentice, so he hardly paid her any mind as they came to a stop in front of Mothermouth. "We're here." He meowed simply.
"It's dark and uncomfortable, but walk slowly and don't run into me and you'll be fine." With a flick of his tail, the medicine cat gestured for Cloudpaw to follow him and ducked into the downward-sloping tunnel. He vanished almost instantly into the darkness, the sound of his pawsteps the only sign that he'd not disappeared completely. Soon, Cloudpaw's pawsteps joined his and the seal-point tom picked up the pace, eager to get back to the camp so he could return to his nest or at least get something more important done.
Finally, the walls of the tunnel took on a blue-white glow and Hemlockfox continued, paws certain on the familiar path. Soon enough, the tunnel began to widen, and the two cats filed out into a vast cavern - glittering Moonstone tall in the center. "Come on." He grunted impatiently. "Lie down and touch your nose to the Moonstone." He didn't explain anything beyond that and sat down against the wall by the tunnel, blue eyes bored as he watched Cloudpaw.
Hemlockfox had come to collect her earlier in the day, and Cloudpaw originally couldn't fathom what for. But then he'd given her a bundle of herbs - truly vile, those were - and briskly led her from camp toward the edge of the territory, and the apprentice's initial annoyance at being bothered had shifted into excitement. The journey to the moonstone was something all apprentices had to undertake before becoming a warrior... That meant that her ceremony would be soon, then. It had to be, if they thought she was ready for this!
The medicine cat didn't seem interested in conversation, and Cloudpaw wouldn't be the one with the misfortune of annoying the clan's only healer. It would be unwise, and if she would ever wind up in the medicine den someday, she would not be remembered as an obnoxious cat.
The terrain grew rough under her paws as they climbed the slope leading to highstones. Cloudpaw remained focused on what was in front of her, diligently following the medicine cat's paws. Hemlockfox announced their arrival, and instructed her to stick close. "Okay," The apprentice mewed simply, then followed him into the dark. As the medicine cat had promised, the close confines of the tunnel were indeed uncomfortable. Cloudpaw struggled to keep her fur laying flat. She was used to the open moors, not tight tunnels, and she wished to be anywhere else. Still, if it was to become a warrior, she would keep her complaints silent. Maybe the medicine cat wouldn't notice how her paws shook by the time the tunnel opened up into a cavern.
Cloudpaw spared only a single glance at the glittering moonstone. It was beautiful, sure... But while the cavern was larger than the confines of the tunnel passage used to access it, she was ready to be out of here. The sooner she fell asleep, the sooner she'd wake up, and the sooner they'd be on their way back to Windclan's moors.
Cloudpaw wasn't sure what she was expecting when she touched her nose to the stone and curled up, but sleep came strangely quick to the apprentice.
It had been a while since Lilacsong had been called upon to give advice to the younger generation of her Clan, but it had been only a matter of time. Now she sat, watching as the apprentice entered the realm of StarClan.
She waited for the young cat to awaken once more, before she offered the cat a soft smile.
"Hello there. I am not sure if you have heard of me, but my name is Lilacsong. I was leader of WindClan many moons before you were born. Is there any questions you would want to ask me?"
Cloudpaw's eyes opened, and the apprentice took in her surroundings in quiet awe. It was night, but the field she was in shone brightly with shimmering pale light. A tabby and white she-cat sat in front of her, pelt shining with much of the same. Cloudpaw had heard the stories about Starclan, of course, but part of her hadn't quite believed in some aspects of them. But it seemed the stories were true.
Lilacsong... A pretty name, she thought. But it was the rest of the she-cat's words that caught the apprentice's attention. "You were a leader?" She blinked up at the Starclanner, curiosity burning in her green eyes, "No, I hadn't heard. It really must have been a long time ago then." She mewed, "What was it like? What was Windclan like, back then?" She'd never heard of this she-cat, so it must have been long before her parents were born, or maybe even old Tigerstar.
