The sun was rising slowly above the horizon, Hickorykit growled as the den was illuminated with light. He stretched out his small body and dragged himself out of the den. What adventures awaited him today? His orange gaze scanned the camp, nothing seemed interesting, except the fresh kill pile.
The young kit looked around quickly before darting off towards the pile of prey. A mouse lay on the edge of the pile, and he sunk his little fangs into its flesh before running back to the nursery. Hickorykit tripped over the mouse several times before he got back to the entrance of the den. Still, he continued on his journey.
Once he got to the den he stopped and sat down to rest a moment. The mouse was at least half his size and was quite heavy for the little kit. Hickorykit picked the mouse up again and carried it inside the den, where he set it down in a corner that was far enough away from everyone. He backed up a few paces before crouching down and then pounced on the deceased creature.

Hickorykit had brought a mouse into the nursery, and Honeykit, for a few moments, could only stare at it. It was so big! Had he really managed to drag it all the way from the fresh kill pile to the den? Her brother was going to make such a strong warrior!
"Hey," She glanced up at him, almost not hearing him as she had been too focused on watching what her littermate had been doing. "Of course!" She mewed, what sort of question was that? Of course she'd like to join in whatever her brother was doing!

“Awesome! I’m just pretending it’s another cat from another clan and it’s on our territory.” His eyes narrowed as he peered over to the mouse. “Now Honeykit, we can’t let them get away with that can we? Gotta teach those filthy cats a lesson!” Hickorykit looked back at his sister with a smile. His intent seemed innocent on the outside but deep down he just waited to see it bleed. “Aways, go ahead give it a shot!” He mewed with a little shake of his head.
Hickorykit dropped down into a crouch, ready to pounce at any moment. Thoughts swarmed his mind as he mentally changed the appearance of the rodent. It was now a stout grey cat with a soft white belly. Its eyes glimmered blue like the lapping brook they were standing by; it was totally unaware it was being stalked. He rocked on his hunches as his target moved and with one swift leap he launched forward and sank his teeth and claws into the cat’s flesh.
A shriek from the cat made him kick with his back legs and tighten his hold with his front claw. Another cry made his snap back to reality. Hickorykit’s eyes widened, and he immediately let go of the creature he had ahold of. “Oh Stars! I’m so sorry Honeykit! I got carried away in, erm…” He paused; he couldn’t let his sister know what he truly was thinking about. “And I missed the mouse! I didn’t hurt ya, did I?” He nudged his sister, helping her to her feet. What had gotten into him, why didn’t he realize that was his sister not the mouse. "It will be fun to be able to practice actual sparring one day." Honeykit observed, the mouse was very much dead and didn't offer much in the way of a challenge... But they were kits and not allowed to do much else. Hickorykit was probably as eager to begin apprenticehood as she was.
The thought did cross her mind that maybe playing with prey would be frowned upon... But her brother had offered, and he wouldn't steer her wrong. The queens would understand. With a nod, Honeykit dropped into a crouch, an awkward, uncoordinated imitation of what she had seen some of the apprentices practicing. She took a few steps toward the mouse... And her brother must have had the same idea, leaping forward.
"Ow!" The kit yelped, head swinging toward Hickorykit as she lost her balance.
Hickorykit was quick to apologize and ask if she was alright, and Honeykit nodded. "It's okay - I'm okay." She mewed. The remorse in her brother's tone was clear to her, he obviously hadn't meant to hurt her. "Thanks." She added, accepting the help back to her paws. Not that she needed it, of course, she really was okay. But Hickorykit cared.
"I guess I moved when you did." She mewed, "Bet that will teach you to look before you leap." She grinned, gently prodding her brother with a paw.

“Oh for sure! I really am sorry Honeykit! Maybe we should take this mouse to momma and keep the fact we were playing with food to ourselves! We can always practice hunting with a moss ball!” Hickorykit mewed as he turned towards the mouse. Luckily, he hadn’t hurt his sister, just startled her a bit. The young tom clamped his pointy teeth down on the mouse and started dragging it to the nest where his mother lay asleep with the rest of his siblings.
They dropped the mouse by Thymelight’s face and Hickorykit let out a yawn. All work and play had made him tired, but he didn’t want to sleep yet. He darted over to a pile of moss balls and chose the largest one before heading back over to his sister. “Here, we’ll bat this around for a while and then maybe we can go nap in the warm sun, ok?” He mewed as the moss ball rolled to his sister. The young tom wasn’t a fan of the sunshine, but his siblings seemed to enjoy it and although he didn’t get along with his brothers, he did get along with his little sister. "It's okay, really. It was just a mistake." Honeykit tried to reassure her brother, "See? It's barely a scratch." She added. She glanced at the mouse when he did, and nodded. "Mom'll appreciate it. Let's go." Tossing around a mossball for a bit would be fun, and a nap in the warm sunlight sounded even better.

The two kits ran about the nursery playing with their mossball until their siblings and mother were awake for the day.
