Burn through wood and stone [C]

Falconmoon leaped from branch to branch with Firepaw in tow. He was assessing the tom's ability to move swiftly and smoothly through the trees, so they weren't too terribly high up. They were high up enough to stay mostly out of a dog's reach though, given the circumstances. "We can go slow for now, but try to learn what branches are more stable just by a glance. You never know when you'll need to move quickly and won't have time to think about it." He remained on a higher branch and nodded for the apprentice to keep jumping past him. Newleaf was a good time to learn, as the water made the branches more study than when they were dry. Seasonal lessons and how plants changed could come later, right now, he just needed the apprentice to learn how to tell what branches were safest to jump on.

Remnants of the fire from ages past were still there, an occasional burn scar in some of the trees' trunks. That was something else he needed to figure out... what if a fire were to happen again?

Falconmoon jumped through the trees with ease, watching his nephew perform as well. He was impressed so far, but he didn't voice it out loud for now. He didn't know his nephew well enough to know whether or not compliments too early would go to his head and prove disastrous later. Falconmoon turned his eyes to where his nephew would land next... and his heart dropped. He halted on his own branch and opened his mouth to yell at him to stop... but it was too late.

Falconmoon kicked off of his own branch, looking like a pale squirrel with how swiftly he moved to the lowest branch below his nephew to prepare to catch him by the scruff, or even the tail, as painful as that would be. There was no need though, as Falconmoon looked up to prepare to catch him, Firepaw managed to save himself. He let out a loud sigh o relief, his adrenaline still roaring in his veins.

"Are you alright?" He asked, looking over the apprentice but seeing no signs of obvious injury. He looked over at a few other branches on the tree they were in and scoured them for signs of rot and death.

"These can be hard to tell, since the tree is still alive but some of the branches are not. This tree is sick." His voice was calm, but he leaped up to a branch beside Firepaw's. He would allow the youth a moment to catch his breath before he said anymore though, knowing it was pointless trying to explain this all to someone who was slowly coming out of a fright. Once he was sure he had Firepaw's attention, he reached out with his tail to point at another unstable branch.

"See that brown mold? It looks like a bunch of little dots that are off-color from the bark. That mold only appears after a branch has died. There isn't a lot of it yet, but it makes the branches weak and unstable. It's slowly eating the tree." He let his tail drop back into a normal position and let Firepaw have a moment to observe it. "Its really hard to see when you're moving fast, but its crucial to be able to spot it before you land on it. You're not doing bad, by the way. This mold usually appears later in newleaf or even during greenleaf. These branches are growing mold early."

He paused then and waited to hear what Firepaw thought about such a thing.
